Right but I think the OP (and me too) want a grand strategy game not related to history. Basically EU4 (or CK2) but with races, fantasy units, etc. With nations, diplomacy, wars just like those any of those 2 games, but not tied to neither our history nor our geography.
This is what I had in mind, yes.

how about using a previous historical landmass with modern countries or made up ones. look at map number 4 http://twistedsifter.com/2013/08/maps-that-will-help-you-make-sense-of-the-world/ it's a map of every country in the world on pangea, it would be interesting to play on with some countries split in half and some lose/gain importance. i could see a cool paradox game made on this map with the water area in the north acting as a new Mediterranean with several nations around it.

Well, here's a hint for PD. Make a general grand strategy game engine that, kind of, fits any earthly era. At release there would be, I dunno, only a map of the Runemaster universe(a collab with its devs). Then PD could start to make content DLCs about other franchises that are willing to do collab.

For example PD says to the owners of Lord of the Rings franchise: "You and me, my strategy game engine and your lore, lets bang." And a few months later a new DLC is annoucned: "Grand Strategy: The Middle Earth", which features some DLC specific new engine features that this setting requires and a map of Middle earth with all the events and stuff.

Then PD goes to the pub again and meets TES: "You and me, my strategy game engine and your lore, lets bang." And a few months later a new DLC is annoucned: "Grand Strategy: The Elder Scrolls", which adds some Elder Scrolls specific features and has an Elder Scrolls map made with the co-operation of the owners of TES.

Then PD goes to the pub again and meets Warhammer: "You and me, my strategy game engine and your lore, lets bang." And a fer months later a new DLC is annoucned: "Grand Strategy: Hammers of War", which adds some Warhammer specific features and contains a Warhammer map with all the Warhammer happenings.

Then PD goes to the pub, yet again, and meets Dragon Age: "You and me, my strategy game engine and your lore, lets bang." And a a few months later a new DLC is annoucned: "Grand Strategy: Age of Dragons", with Dragon age specific features and a map of the Dragon age universe.

That sounds cool from a fans perspective, so I am sold but as someone else has said maybe those things would be better left to modders? Paradox has a good track record of supporting modders and the modders have achieved some pretty excellent things too.

Honestly, OP pretty much describes how the games already are.
No, OP wants a grand strategy game set in a completely original world, with new nations, units, etc. A true sandbox grand strategy game. So basically, Dominions 5 in the Clausewitz engine.

An alternate history game would be interesting, yes. Same with a fantasy game, as long as it's a creative/well-researched setting and not just the cliché high fantasy universe from, oh, nearly every other fantasy title out there. If you've played Dominions, you'll understand what I'm thinking about.

I've always wanted a Fantasy Universalis (fantasy strategy game with Clautswitz engine like EU4, with random world generation, races, fantasy units, etc).
Seriously they should make a fantasy and or sci-fi theme like that. Just Magicka (and her friend Runemaster) is not enough!

A game with CK2/EU4 hybrid mechanics, maybe Victoria POPs thrown in, in a non-historical setting (not fantasy like elves and fairies, etc.).
