I love to play and create Theocracies in Paradox games, I've created the German Theocracy as norse Scandinavia in CK II, I've played quite a few games as theocracies in EU4, Ive tried to create Italy as the Papacy in Vicky 2 and create a theocratic Byzantium as Russia (defender of eastern christendom), the biggest problem isn't lacking features, theocracies have never been major powers (while being theocracies that is) but they sorely lack flavor.
This is a thread to show that you want more in the name of theocracies.

I find it somewhat funny that you want theocracies, because of your communist flag

the papacy and HRE?
Yes exactly. I started an EU4 game back in the days when true world conquest was still possible with Hungary, took control of both the cardinals so I became defender of the faith and I also became the ruler of the HRE. Then I formed the country of HRE and conquered the whole world while at the same time I sent out my unholy priests to spread the words of Satan, quite successfully actually.

Call me as those who interested to play as Theocracy, but as a person unfamiliar with how theocracy work, could someone gives some ideas how you think it would be implemented in, for example, EU4?
So far, based on eu4wiki, the current theocracy play just like normal kingdom but with more involvement in cardinal system and no heir mechanic (which means no decrease in stability? or something like that) like republic...

Or if it has been done in other game, could you tell me?
Thanks... :)

actually, theocracies (well, the playable ones) so far are probably the least fleshed out of the governments in PDS games. in EU4, the only theocracies worth knowing about is the papal state, which can excommunicate, and has the cardinal system. and the teutonic order, which becomes prussia. other than that, the theocracy government has very little going for it (unless V2 has some amazing papal secret). the only way that a non-secular theocracy/theocracy title can be of high importance is if it get's fleshed out in CK2 as a playable government type.

My first EU4 game was as The Pope, before he got all those cool NI's. I've been wanting to play as a monastic state but am unsure whether to pick Livonian or Teutonic. The former has the cooler color and the option to for mKurland (way cooler than Prussia) but the latter has an easier time diploannexing the other monastic states (and not uniting the knights again or doing so through force is obviously out of the question).

The Papacy is fun for a few reasons in Vicky2. Partially because it's funny to see the game try to interpret you as a monarchy (the pope fathering an heir, for instance; or electing the socialists to power and so now the Papal States is an atheistic state), and partially because you can create the Roman Republic. Too bad the People's Republic of Rome flag is so boring.
