We have switched around what we will talk about in the development diaries for now, so today we’ll instead talk about Peace!

But first of all, lets talk about a feature that is something that some have requested..

Return Province!
Sometimes you have taken a province that is the core of a rival, or someone who do not want to buy the province, or even talk to you as you are so evil.. Not that we would ever be warmongering-alliance-breaking-world-conquerers..


Now you can just return the province to any state that has it as a core. You will lose some Agressive Expansion and prestige, but it will definitely reduce the chance of them attacking you in the short-term.


Peace Overhaul

This is obviously something that is in the accomanying patch.

First of all, we removed the treaty called annex.

Well, instead we are now able to target every province an enemy own, so taking all provinces is an annexation.

You will also always be able to demand the capital in a peace treaty, and you also do not need to occupy territory to demand it in peace, however unoccupied territory is more expensive to claim.

Revoking cores will no longer cost diplomatic power.

Diplomatic Power Cost, War Score Costs and Prestige gain for each province now scale with the province’s development, instead of being fixed costs.

Overextension and Agressive Expansion also looks at development instead of base tax.

And finally, you’ll be able to demand gold even while “annexing”.

I smell the next euro-centric expansion, while leaving the RotW as shitty as they still are. Now hate me, fanboys.

I think you have missed unique religious mechanics for Buddhism.

Besides, currently Japan and Ming are among top5 nations in the world regarding unique flavour, while India is on the level of interactivity of Europe.

Also El Dorado Precolombian gameplay while challenging and drastically different is pretty entertaining.

When are we going to get a fix for all the Indonesian provinces that have outlying islands that ruin stuff? (eg. around pose you can jump the island to another bit)

Can you guys make Cuba and Hispaniola both their own Colonial Nation? It seems anachronistic to clump both with an Antilles Colonial Nation..

Wow, that is an groundbreaking overhaul that will change the playstyle of all RotW nations forever. Meanwhile, all RotW still have a freaking European techtree. Even Mapuche can discover pike&shot in 1500. Ridiculous.

Besides, currently Japan and Ming are among top5 nations in the world regarding unique flavour, while India is on the level of interactivity of Europe.
And still they share the European tech-tree, interface and other things.

Sounds good! Anyone who recognises the man on the picture? That is most likely an obvious hint for the name of the next expansion.


Judging from the way the Emperor appears to be reaching out of frame for his crown jewels (one hopes not with a mailed fist), it suggests the title "Seizing the Prize"

but, taking into account the peace changes discussed, perhaps the more uplifting "Conquer and Divide"

Annex a big country in just 1 war, possible now?

I find weird, that I can occupy all of France, and still not being able to annex it.

I would it find more strange if this was possible... We are not in the 20th century.

Also why did s many disagree on Oliver Cromwell, one of the things in the expansion is brittish gverment, another about protestantism. Both applies to him. Nothing thus far is about spain, though granted a fair few HRE things are in.
Because the extension is far from being centered around England, and even less Great Britain (also not sure where you got Cromwell being related to GB, so that contributed to my confusion about your post)

And Cromwell was Puritan. He was more Reformed than Protestant.

Hotfix: -Byzantium can no longer demand provinces. Ever.
New patch: byzantium starts with only one province. In Alaska. Bordering france. France first mission is crush byzantium .

Heck yes! I haven't played EU4 since before the recent DLC, now I'll definitely give it a go with these new growable provinces! Gives it more of an RPG feel finally and not some MS Paint 2k15 simulator feel!

I never said it should be easy.


It is harder to annex a whole country, especially a large one back then. You could sign a treaty that says it is all your but for practical reasons, transportation, communication, and logistics were much harder and therefore one wouldn't hold on to such large territories for a long time (especially if they are of a different language/culure/religion). In the 20th century you had trains, trucks, and larger armies, plus you can easily call someone anywhere with a phone to coordinate plans quickly.

Eh, India might need some more work regarding flavour, missions and mechanic, expecially regarding the Mughals, crazy religious conversions and Nepal/Jaunpur/Assam blobbing into wrong religion, wrong culture, arid, 1 base tax Tibetan provinces. I mean, go conquer Bengal instead you dimwit.
The Hindustani unification tag leaves me unsatisfied, since I mostly play muslim powers in the region.

Mapuche can't discover pike and shot in 1500 because of tech group.

And I am very sceptical about concept of various areas having different techtree, for me it sounds like concept taken straight from stacraft without deeper thoughts about how it fits eu4 gameplay and historical background.

To begin with, THIS GAME HAS NO TECH TREE :p but three separate linear rows of technologies.

And eu4 takes place in a period when, guess what, technological progress was dominated by West. Military advancements of West were straight up imported by ROTW powers, from weapon exports to Africa and Moroccan artillery based on European to Barbary Corsairs copying Western ship designs, Tartar hordes being devastated by firearm power of Russia, Japan learning about Western firearm technology and adopting it, Indonesian countries overtaking designs of Western arms etc.

Different tech trees (if you have trees to begin with) would be awesome for a civilization-type game taking place from ancient to early modern times. EU4 covers the exact period of West beginning to rise to power and lead technological progress. No idea how to you want to jump over that. Precolombian civilisations were annihilated by epidemics by 16th century so you don't have anything to base their 'unique tech tree' on, NA tribes either adopted European weaponry or died while sticking to 'traditional' warys, African technological advancement in eu4 period consisted of importing more sophisticated weaponry from West (...while still being backwards) while Subsaharan nations neither engaged in global oceanic game nor had enlightenment-level intellectual breakthrough. Muslim world in eu4 was going slowly into stagnation, till 17th century Ottomans, Morocco, Safavid Persia and Mughals were decently advanced but then became lagging horribly. Ming in 1444 was very advanced (in this case I agree it's underpowered) but was also sliding slowly into stagnation; Qing expanded militarily but by this point Chinese weapon systems lagged behind Western, not to even mention super conservative social structure and economic constrains.

What exactly would you base 'different tech trees for each region' on? And why? Precolombians need to westernize if they want to survive anyway and would need to do that IRL (if epidemics didn't annihilate them) because with all respect to their scientific achievements, leather armors, ritual Flower Wars and obsidian axes stand no chance against pike'n'shoot armored formations supported by heavy cavalry and long range artillery. Same with Africans; military westernization dominated continent in this period. Hordes need and would need to reform not be smashed by gunpowder empires.

And then we return again to the problem of lack of technological TREE to begin with! You don't have strategical dilemmas or dependencies but linear succession. 'different tech trees' sounds cool but basically means nothing more than changing place of particular advancements in a linear line.


Also, about lack of flavour for ROTW: China and Japan are among top5 nations in the world regarding unique flavour, India is awesome to play in, steppe hordes are pretty unique, West Africa has around 30 unique events, Americas by this point are extremely different to play from rest of the world etc.

I don't know what do you want. More historical events? That's rather obvious.
