Welcome to another development diary about Europa Universalis. Now we are very close to the announcement of the new expansion that we aim to release in June... If Frö smiles upon us....

TAWRQLR.jpg

We have switched around what we will talk about in the development diaries for now, so today we’ll instead talk about Peace!

But first of all, lets talk about a feature that is something that some have requested..

Return Province!
Sometimes you have taken a province that is the core of a rival, or someone who do not want to buy the province, or even talk to you as you are so evil.. Not that we would ever be warmongering-alliance-breaking-world-conquerers..

Now you can just return the province to any state that has it as a core. You will lose some Agressive Expansion and prestige, but it will definitely reduce the chance of them attacking you in the short-term.

Peace Overhaul

This is obviously something that is in the accomanying patch.

First of all, we removed the treaty called annex.

..

.

Well, instead we are now able to target every province an enemy own, so taking all provinces is an annexation.

You will also always be able to demand the capital in a peace treaty, and you also do not need to occupy territory to demand it in peace, however unoccupied territory is more expensive to claim.

Revoking cores will no longer cost diplomatic power.

Diplomatic Power Cost, War Score Costs and Prestige gain for each province now scale with the province’s development, instead of being fixed costs.

Overextension and Agressive Expansion also looks at development instead of base tax.

And finally, you’ll be able to demand gold even while “annexing”.

By the gods, please Paradox
make it so that there is an option to auto-pause when you are called to war.

Accidentally overlooking call to war has been a problem ever since I started with vanilla EU3.
Eight years later and it is still the same :-(
Im not sure but I think there is a box on the bottom right corner that lets you pick "pop up and pause game" as an option. Its like that for all other notifications. Correct me If I am wrong.

What do you expect from nonchalant condescending attitude and immediately taking passive-agressive stance ('take on me, fanboys')? Hugs and rainbows? Maybe you would get more likes if you concentrated on discussing - arguably present - eurocentrism in the game (such as horrible state of African unit skins) instead of saying 'rotw sucks, devs suck and you all suck' and then crying you don't get Community Award for Mature Discussion.
Do you really think that "Now hate me"-part made the difference? I was perfeclty aware that the fanboy-armada is going to hate my comment anyway, just as they always do when you critizise something essential about Paradox dlc/patching/content policy.
And yes, the last time i wanted to objectively discuss an other problem (The problem with the terminus "tribe") i drawned in hate aswell. The first time i truely realized that this community sucks.

Besides, complaining on 'worst community' because of few dislikes shows rather hilarious attitude in the context of #chans using word 'faggot' in every sentence, gaming communities using word 'noob' in every sentence or reddit system 'if you have different opinion and get dislikes your post is INVISIBLE so you are effectively censored'.
I wrote the worst community I have joined. I dont plan to join a Dota/Warcraft/other kid-games-forum anytime soon.

Btw, what did you expect to achieve with your comment anyway? "Yeah, dude, I'm totally with you! This expansion won't focus on what I want so eff it!" Seriously...
I expected to drawn in dislikes, that funilly actually happened. The other reason i wrote the comment is because this is, as far as i remember, a forum where everyone can write his opinion. And my opinion is that Paradox is annoyingly euro-centric.

I would really love if it would be possible to make offers and demands in the same peace deal, a "give and take" sort of treaty. Like when a country cedes a province but receives war reparations as compensation.

This was practice during almost every peace negotiation between the great powers of Europe from the at least the 17th century.

But good changes nevertheless!

You made a statement that many people disagree with. Big deal, you might get a couple 'disagrees' for that. You then called out anyone who might disagree with you, before the fact. Thats a rather obnoxious thing to do, so thats where the other umpteen come from.

I'm willing to bet good money that if you had made the same general statement in a more civil manner, you would have gotten almost no attention one way or the other.

Further, the entire point of the like/dislike system is to save time and effort from pointless discussions like these.

yeah, Hainaut, Picardy and Luxembourg appeared alongside Holland, Flanders and Brabant as subjects in PU with Burgundy, although according to the newest screenshots they no longer exist in 1444.

(post edited because i'm hopelessly blind today, at least when it comes to recognizing Luxembourg as no longer extant.)

I hope so, as I certainly complained enough on various threads about them being there unhistorically!

Granted, Franche-Comte is still not part of the Flanders PU like it should be, but otherwise three PUs (Flanders, Brabant, and Holland-Hainaut) with the rest outright owned by Burgundy is fine by me.

Well I'm pretty sure this is not about how we interact with our vassals as promised but still nice changes. I remember playing cusco pre AOW and not being able to expand north because the some two province guy had his capital in the bottleneck.
There is a mission you always have to get claims on both of those provinces.....

This will continue to be a problem as long as Britain continues being weak and a push over for continental powers to fight.

As it should be imo, Britain never was a strong land force, mostly able to win vs natives or with their allies. They couldn't even handle their own colonie *cough* USA *cough*.

This expansion looks so beast! I love how now you can just peace out and take what you want if you are winning the war without having to actually siege the specific provice! And no more stupid borders!

Now... what skins will be released? That's what I want to know. Napoleanic skins, maybe? We need Shakos!

Yes along with calling people fanboys it did. Your opinion has no bearing in it whatsoever, even if I agreed with it 100% resorting to personal attacks is basically the rudest thing you can to in a discussion so would have disagreed with it on principle and it i the greatest mark of the worst forums(and internet and life in general) so would rather keep it away from here. Pretty sure most others did for similar reasons.

€€€ $$$ £££

And can you blame them?

Kinda think they really have been expanding in that regard.

I still remember their journey from what was "Svea Rike I-3" (completely Swedish centric games) into the first Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings. With every game and expansion they iterate even more on the history of non European nations. But well it is still Europa Univeralis.

Very good changes, now one thing is missing: ability to give and take at same time. For example: country A won a warscore of 50 againts country B and country A wants 3 provinces that costs 60 warscore. Country A may be able to offer some gold or a minor province for compensation of warscore. These examples could be multiplied. Another example: country C wons a war againts country D. Country C ask three core provinces of her but country D makes a counter offer, "give 4 of core provinces of country C + country C revokes remaning cores".

To be honest, historical treaties where one side gets all he wants is rare. Many treaties designed to reduce further friction and conflicts. Therefore land exchanges were quite common.

17 Dislikes on my first post and 7 on my second. Basicaly the proof how shitty great parts of the community are. Must be the worst ive ever joined.

For the most part, the patches/DLC/expansions so far have emphasized the mechanics of Western European empire-building (so indeed Eurocentric in that regard), but also adding more content (new provinces and tags) to the ROTW. So I don't think it's entirely fair to act like ROTW hasn't gotten any attention, although certain parts of it (i.e. the Americas) have gotten more attention than others (i.e. Africa), possibly for somewhat Eurocentric reasons. But there's no point in being purposefully antagonistic...

Will you be able to return cores while at war?

Wa-hey, more great changes :). A big fan of the greater flexibility in claiming provinces and not having the capital 'blocked off' until everything else is gone. Is the new capital for the nation that just lost its old one determined automatically, or does the loser (if a player) get to choose?

EU4 countries, top total development in 1444 as of 1.12 (in order): Ming, Timurids, Lithuania, France, Ottomans, England, Mamluks, Castile
Qara Qoyunlu, Aragon, Hungary, Vijayanagar, Poland, Uzbeks, Muscovy, Austria Jaunpur, Bahmanis, Delhi, Venice.
Ming starts with 1000+ dev
Note that this does not count subjects, if it did Burgundy and Bohemia would place.
I got a "Disagree" on this for some reason... o.0
