Hello everyone. We're a bit too busy working on patch 1.13 to make a proper DD today, so I just thought I'd do a little preview of new national ideas we're adding in 1.13.

Patch 1.13 is planned for release as a beta patch next week, to be made a full patch later (we don't want to release it as a full patch right now because the team is about to disappear on vacation). It should be compatible with 1.12 saves, but as always, no guarantees. It contains 200+ bug fixes (mostly older pre 1.12 bugs) and a bunch of balance tweaks. As you might have surmised, it also contains a bunch of new idea groups, so without further ado:

The majority of these are countries that are there at the start of the game.
There are certainly still countries that currently have group ideas that could use individual sets but for now the goal was to make as many countries start without generic ones as possible, especially in 1444.
I'm also not convinced these are countries nobody plays (especially compared to HRE minors) but then again I was always mostly a ROTW player and tastes differ. :)

Getting rid of all national ideas is more important than getting rid of all group ideas. I'm sure we'll be at that point quite soon though...

Even for the HRE minors, there are still reasons to play them.

Honestly, I think that in terms of countries that no one has played, some of the Sub Saharan Minor states are pretty overshadowed, as well as possibly some of the Incan/Meso American minors/ Ones that are Nuahatl, that aren't Aztec, or some of the more southern countries in Peru, or maybe even one or two of the new Pacific or Siberian minors. Pate is also notable, as is Shammar(At least Haasa has the notability of being Shia.)

I think the only reason that I have had to play in Sub-saharan africa was for the Songhai achievement, and the only country to really pick outside of that is Mali. Yeah, you have a few ROTW players, but some of the countries aren't even comparable in a Marth-Roy sense[Context: In competitive Smash bros, Marth is an amazing, viable character, and Roy is a clone of marth, who has a few interesting features, but just isn't finished], just more like... overshadowed.

I don't see Florence in the list, does this mean that Florence and Tuscany share the same idea group?
If yes wouldn't be a nice touch if this idea group was extended to the other tuscan minors? (Lucca, Siena and Pisa, if released?)
 
Flanders really needs its own ideas now that it starts independent

I think Flanders is badly in need of a unique idea set, now that it's in the game at game start...

On the one hand, I sort of agree with both these.

On the other hand, they could just use the Dutch ideas. Although the labels on it do tie the set to the Netherlands, the ideas themselves wouldn't be a bad fit. The German labels they have now fit much worse...

Or, maaaaybe, the new French Ducal ideas?

Common Sense currently has a rating of 57% on Steam. Is this patch going to fix it? Kind of a bad time to go on vacation.

I'm sorry to inform you that the Paradox Interactive Information Control Corporation was shut down by Interpol years ago.

... but seriously, what? "Curses, the coring costs!!!!" sums up the majority of the negative reviews there. Whether they will change it next patch is up to them.

This might be a stupid question, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
What are the general ideas that being phased out?
The only 'general' ideas that are being actively phased are the generic ideas, marked in game ss National Ideas. They are the really crappy ones that were given to countries that didn't have unique or group (ie German, Italian, Indian Sultinate, etc) ideas.
