i'm all for it but "Mulluscoid" is pretty vague as a definition, the Mollusca phylum is pretty comprehensive and diverse including everything from

Cuttlefish:

Nautilus belauensis:

Berghia coerulescens:

Cryptoconchus porosus:

Helix pomatia:

Enteroctopus dofleini:

Tridacna gigas:

As you can see the Mollusca phylum covers anything from the Giant Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) and other Cephalopods, to the Giant Clam (Tridacna gigas), and land (Helix pomatia) and sea (Berghia coerulescens) slugs. so i'm curious as to how "Molluscoid" is defined in-game? is it exclusively "squid people" or is it broader definition?

Anyway, I like how Stellaris breaks usual stereotypes even in so subtle manner as in phenotype naming/rooster whch fits zoological naming, not class B conventions

*No 'cephids' or other ignorant term for 'aliens with tentacles' but Molluscoid Phenotype
*No 'humanoids' AKA 'humans with rubber foreheads, different colours and human-catgirls' but Mammalian Phenotype (personally I wanna see something similar to Platypi!) and homo sapiens only as an example specie from this group
*No 'instectoid' which is popculture term mostly nonexistent in zoology but Archeopod Phenotype
*No 'lizardmen' but Reptilian Phenotype (here I am criticizing naming conventions, former is super cheesy - unfortunately latter is spoiled by this recent idiotic conspiracy theory)
*No 'bird' but Avian Phenotype (again, naming convention)
*Final one... Many SF universes remind themselves there should be some diversity after populating 90% of space with humans, recolored humans, rubber forehead humans and humanoids, and then they either slap some ET-like creature which has no biological background other than 'looks close to usual alien archetype, like ET' (Torians in GalCiv) or, even worse, when someone wants original alien race he/she slaps biology in the face and adds some idiotic fantasy races of sentient crystals, rocks, bacterias or whatever.
Instead Stellaris adds Fungoid type which seems to be fairly plausible and at least basically researched (hey, on Earth there are even fungal parasites who infect brains of little animals such as insects and control them - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiocordyceps_unilateralis ).

*Bonus point for not including 'Robotic race' archetype - I mean, they are awesome (Geth are my favourite 'mainstream SF robot race') but in most cases SF writers reduce them to
a) Kill all organics (idiotic)
b) Basically humans in metal suits (unimaginative)
c) Emotionless calculators (meh)
I hope AI races will appear in the separate DLC where they'll be fleshed out, radically different from organic races, and with player having an option to choose 'what is their genesis' during race creation (exterminated creators, were left alone by creators, creators wiped out by virus etc)

Now I just pray to the Paradox not to include idiotic 'instectoid telepathic hive-mind' fantasy nonsense but I am afraid too many people like it to leave Stellaris without it :(

we know you can create robot servants (like the geth) and one of the end game cataclysms is them gaining self-awareness and rebelling, so technically robotic species exists i guess, you just can't choose them when create your species

i don't really see how that is "idiotic fantasy nonsense" some social insects (like bees) have certain behavioral responses to the pheromones excreted by the queens, if our race is capable of genetically engineering less advanced species to our benefit, who's to say that the queens didn't already use science to enhance the effect of their pheromones on their workers, to the point where it is pseudo mind-control?

I too want to be the Geth, but for now AI civilizations are non-playable in the game. They would require special gameplay mechanics and a lot of unique content to make them interesting from a player perspective. Hopefully this is something we can revisit post-release, though!

I'm also interested in this... You make a valid case on the mollusk phenotype. I think in one of the treads they said that race creation was likely to be the next diary, so hopefully we can get answers there.

Best idea: A race of barnacle-like mulluscoids with latent psychic powers. They do not themselves fly the ships around, a different race of clever mammals flies the ships around, not realizing that the barnacles clinging to their hulls are unconsciously influencing their every decision. The barnacles just think it's super convenient that all these ships keep going where they want them to.

It is a great relationship.

We have mammals which includes apes, humans and many other different aliens. So I'm sure molluscoid will be more than just squids ;)

Yep! There will be very very slow Snails..... very sloooooow

First of all I'm happy that I can create my favourite race the arbore from twilight imperium.

second I hope we will be able to use science to make our own cyborg race.
