I've just caught up reading this AAR and wow! It's a gem. Do you anticipate the Germans invading Russia? I'd think that you've primed the Russians for an easy invasion by the Germans. I hope this is where the war is going as a post Barbarossa Germany vs the allies and an independent Japan which stands to be the nail in the coffin in whichever side you choose to go to war with.

Same I just caught up and this is an epic AAR. Great work, its really interesting. I can't wait to see if you make it to the Russian forward line and whether you can beat the Allies in the East.... Although I secretly want the Brits to hold out for a while (I may be a tad biased though :p)

Quite the opposite I think. Those Reds have had years of Wartime Production levels to prepare for pretty much anything Jerry is cooking up.

Do you think the Russian AI is capable of defending Barbarossa while also managing a war against the Japanese? I've never seen this in an AAR unfold so Im not sure how well the Russians will do.

Yes, if the Germans try Barbarossa it will be an absolute nightmare for them. I think it is more likely that Russia will be the one invading. Ultimately time will tell.

Thanks Jagd! :D

I do think they will invade them but in a very long time. I agree with you on that it would be cool if Germany beats the USSR and ultimately face the Allies while Japan is an independent superpower in Asia. It will feel very much like 1984.

Thanks affz! :p

I think I will reach the Soviet forward line but I do think the Allies will be very hard in the East, especially the americans and british with their strong navies. That's why I'm building so many carriers and two super heavy battleships because I think some of them will be sunk in the Pacific theatre and I need all the naval power I can muster.

This is true. The Wehrmacht will face a very even foe in western Russia. There's just so many Red Army divisions, like 300+, that the Eastern Front will become a meatgrinder when it goes off.

Yes, I believe so. This is because only a small part of the Red Army is fighting Japan due to the limit in the infrastructure and supplies and harsh terrain in Siberia. For this reason, the bulk of their army is still in Europe, about 80% of it. And I have been at war for two and a half years and with only 20% of their Army it has become a real challenge for Japan to push into the Far East against the Soviets. I don't imagine it will be easier even with Barbarossa.

I also think the Russians could put a wonderful defense and perhaps even win against the Wehrmacht due to their hyped up national strength and industrial production because they have been at war for almost 3 years now.

cheers :D

yes, i think you made it harder for germany to beat the soviets with the soviet warmachine mobilized for the past few years fighting you. in all the hoi3 games ive played, ive never seen germany ever beat the soviets. the closest ive seen was for it to bring down the soviets down to 300 manpower then german lines collapsing from 0 manpower. it kinda annoys me sometimes since i dont get as much enjoyment playing as italy, japan or other minor axis nations since im always pressed for time in trying to capture allied territories and trying to get forces in position to help take out the soviets by 1942. at least when i play germany i can take my sweet time

To finally respond to your question on the convoys. In the production screen you can deal with convoys in the lower right of the screen. If you turn off the auto-create tab you can manually set routes for either supplies or resources. It doesn't make sense to have 1 convoy do both since you want supplies flowing FROM your capital and resources TO it, thats 2 different routes unless I am very much mistaken.

Looking forward to the next update!

Any thoughts on when we will see an update here? I would love to see this continuing!

In a little bit hehe :)

Right now I'm hooked on EU4, a game I suck at but I still find fun. Once I'm done with that, I will resume with the battle for the Greater Japanese Empire :)

Oh man, this is great! A real thrill, I say. This AAR is quite good, and that is a war I like! A massive theater, impossible choice and vast coordinated troop movements. The closest I ever had to this was invading Austria-Hungary as Ukraine in Kaiserreich DH.

The best part is how in spite of some glaring mistakes (like the overconfidence that costed you 200k men in the Soviet Counteroffensive), you keep coming on top of it! Keep up the good work and cut it with EU4! Wait for Cossacks! :p

-- Sadly, an alcoholic drink (a cuba libre) fell on my laptop some time ago wiping out its information. With it, was lost HOI3 and all the save games. For this reason, I have to announce that this AAR is unfortunately over. I'm very sorry my friends, it was never meant to end like this. The Imperial Standard should have flown all over a liberated Asia. I have failed You and the Emperor :(

However, to make up for it I will be writing a new and better AAR soon, first I need to decide the country. If you have any ideas, please post them here. About what country an AAR do you want to see of next?
:)

Sinking of the world's largest battleship, the mighty Yamato, in 1945. This AAR has taken a similar fate.

So sad! Please give a non Axis Japan another chance in the future
