Great update, excellent work defeating Germany. That must have knocked one of the biggest pillars out from under the Axis and left Russia's flanks open to invasion. What is the balance of force between the various factions now?? I get the feeling the Allies are in a dominant position with this victory under their belt.

If we're considering the Allies as a whole, than we are well beyond the Axis or the Comintern, both in total military and industrial capacity and in resources. There's just no contest. Russia seems to have very little military forces left, and so far we've not had any serious difficulty taking out whatever tiny forces come trickling in. Nationalist Spain seemingly has a decent sized force, maybe about a third the size of my own, although his are almost entirely infantry and garrisons, while I have wider mix of units. A decent chunk of nationalist forces are in Africa, which is not a great place for them to be. It will take a fairly big commitment of troops and proper planning, but taking Iberia shouldn't be too big a deal.

So that leaves us with the Comintern. One thing that will make this tough is that it will probably be only me and Spain fighting the Comintern in America. I think that's a very reasonable conclusion based on the AI behavior I've seen so far. They don't seem too interested in sending forces to fight unless its an area on the same landmass as their own territory. Plus most of the allies have little or no transports, which will limit how much they could help if they wanted to. Now if we're considering just me and Spain vs the Comintern its a bit closer than if the entire allies put their full effort into the war. Right now, Chile's army seems to be pretty close to mine, but I have a bit of a lead. On the other hand, Colombia has a bit of a lead over Spain. Add Portugal on top of that, and the total army size is in favor of the Comintern. But I just picked up a massive prize in resources and IC from Germany. Based on the latest intel, Chile's IC is about 1/5 of mine, and the other Comintern members are even lower. Once I take back Iberia, Spain should get a decent boost in IC as well, though still not up to Chile's level I don't think. However the two of us should be able to outproduce the Comintern, and should have the advantage in the long run. But I expect it will still be a tough fight to beat them.

Now if we got really lucky, and Turkey decided to help out against the Comintern, or Japan for that matter, it would probably be a fairly easy war. Both of them have armies close to the size of my own. But I don't expect either of them to help. That's why I'm focusing on Russia so much right now. I'm in a race against my own allies to occupy territory so I can get as much Russia resources and IC as I can. It will just be useless in the hands of the Turks. I want all the IC advantage I can get against the Comintern.

Part 18: Annoyance in Asia, and Japan Actually Does Something

"What's our progress?" the emperor asked.

"Very good your majesty," the prime minister answered. "Unsurprisingly, we were very quickly able to secure the surrender of Poland. However the very next day some upstarts in Asia decided to start trouble. Yi, along with their allies Dali and Ming were attempting to establish an expansionist bloc in Asia, while our forces were far away."

D1vM0SY.png

"This report says we are assuming leadership in the war. So presumably someone else is the actual target of their aggression and we are just stepping in to help."

"That's right."

"So who are we rescuing?"

"I'm not entirely sure."

"You're not sure?"

"It doesn't really matter. We are the guarantors of peace and prosperity in Asia. Any expansion not explicitly condoned by us is forbidden. This outrage must be answered with a crushing blow."

"Fair enough, I guess. But they timed their aggression pretty well. We don't have much at home do we."

"I'm afraid not your majesty. At the time they declared war, we had only a few garrison divisions guarding our major cities, and a light armor division, which was recently recruited and hadn't yet been transported to the fight. This is even less than we had when Yarkand decided to join the Axis. Yi and Dali both had several militia divisions and Yi even had a couple infantry divisions as well. It seemed our forces in the area wouldn't be enough to beat them. However due to the distance that our forces would have to travel to return home, we decided it wasn't worth it to bring them back. We figured it was best to just wait for a few more new recruits to show up."

"Makes sense I guess. So what happened?"

"For starters we moved our garrisons northward near the borders with Yi and Dali, to slow their advance into our territory, even if we weren't yet in a position to go on the offensive. In the meantime, Japan turned over a single infantry division to our command as a expeditionary force."

"Wow, a whole division. They may not be too concerned about the Axis or the Comintern, but they seem to be at least a tiny bit concerned about maintaining order in East Asia. But still, such a tiny force isn't much help. I wonder what their reason is."

"Well your majesty, our spies intercepted an internal memo from the Japanese ministry. It reads 'all we have to do is send one division to fight and we'll have a seat at the peace conference.'"

"Oh, we'll make sure they get exactly what they deserve at the peace conference. Anyway, I hope you put that division to good use."

"We did. Although we believed our forces were still not strong enough to take on Yi and Dali until more troops were recruited, our intel suggested Ming was very weak. So we loaded up the Japanese division and our own light armor division and we stormed the beaches near Ming's capital. They had a tiny force there, that was quickly overwhelmed. We soon secured their surrender."

pR36YNs.png

"Amazing. Its hard to believe that 200 years ago, they had the largest army in the world. By that point their technological innovation was starting to stagnate, but they were still a military power not to be trifled with."

"And now its all over your majesty. The process your ancestors began is completed, and the Ming dynasty is no more. They will fade into the mists of history, forever overshadowed by our greatness."

"Alright that's enough wallowing in our own greatness for now, continue the report."

"In Germany, we sent most of our forces eastward to open up a new front against Russia, but we did send a few south to beat Croatia. They only had a few militia troops, and we easily beat them and forced a surrender. Now the world is much less confusing, becuase there is only one Croatia again."

wyloZAp.png

"Wonderful news. Maybe now that wretched play will go out of style, now that there's only one Croatia again."

"After beating Croatia, we had to decide what to do with the troops in that area. We were already doing quite well against Russia, and it seemed like there was no need to send any more help that way. So we attempted to help out our Spanish friends by opening up a front in Iberia."

"How did that go?"

"Well our initial landing went well. There were no forces waiting on the beaches of northeast Iberia. But soon after we landed, Nationalists forces started mobbing us. We managed to advance a little bit, but as more and more Nationalists showed up, eventually we were pushed back. Seeing that this position was untenable, we loaded them back on to the transports and abandoned Iberia, for now. In any case, we shipped those soldiers off to North America to help the Spanish hold the line against the Comintern."

"I guess that's about as much as we expected. We won't be able to take on the Nationalists until Russia has fallen and we can commit a larger force."

"Meanwhile back at home, our new recruits had finally finished their training, and we were ready to take the fight to Yi. It didn't take long to push their armies back and take their capital, securing their surrender. This leave Dali as the last upstart in Asia."

wPnEmGY.png

"And how is the war against Russia."

"Quite good your majesty. On the western front we have huge gaps with no troops, because its simply too wide an area for our divisions to cover. But it doesn't really make any difference because the Russians have basically nothing over here. We are still making good progress grabbing their major cities and resources. If you look in the southern part of this map, you'll see the Turks advanced a bit into Russia, but we cut them off, essentially securing the entire western front for ourselves. This will keep many valuable cities out of the Turkish occupation zone."

YgAxRxp.png

"We seem to be making pretty good progress here."

"Meanwhile the eastern front and the Caucasus front have advanced enormously and have now merged together. A massive allied force is easily crushing any Russia divisions in the area. Russia's dire situation has apparently inspired rebels to rise up on the Spanish steppe and take back their home from the Russians. Although it probably doesn't make that big of a difference, because we would have accomplished the same thing in a very short time."

jPcvjkK.png

"This all looks pretty good. How are things in America?"

"The Comintern has advanced quite a bit since our last report. Our own troops that have recently been deployed in the area have twice been attacked, and held their ground both times. However it looks like the Spanish are still being pushed back at other points. We have a bit more ground to fall back on before the Comintern reaches New York City, but its starting to get dangerously close."

9KcxXOQ.png

"The situation doesn't look too good. Although, with the ongoing liberation of the Spanish Steppe, I think the Spanish will be able to hang on even if they lose ground here. The biggest loss will be a cache of resources if the Comintern does take New York, but we produce enough resources that we can probably keep the Spanish afloat. Anything else to report?"

"There is one other thing, it appears the Russians have launched an offensive to take the southern portion of the Scandinavian peninsula, which is currently unguarded."

Pc0iQSy.png

"Its a bit annoying, but its not going to make any difference. We should ignore this distraction and rush their major cities. But our historians will have to take note of this courageous Scandinavian campaign by the Russians. With a sufficiently sarcastic tone I'm sure."

Part 19: The Iberian Campaign

"So how's the war going?" the emperor asked, "did we win yet?"

"Not just yet your majesty, but we are well on our way. In June, Dali surrendered, finally bringing an end to the disturbance in Asia. However, even bigger news is the surrender of Russia the very next day."

Wewj0Hr.png

"That's pretty nice, but it will probably be annoying to manage it. We've already had several rebel uprisings in Britain and Germany. We can expect the Russians to cause trouble as well. We'll probably need several divisions scattered about their territory to keep it under control."

"Quite right your majesty. After Russia surrendered, our first task was decide which divisions needed to stay on rebel stomping duty, and then get the rest to a coastline ASAP so they could be loaded onto transports. Not wanting a repeat of our previous attempt to take Iberia, we made sure everything was in place before making our attack. We started with two simultaneous attacks. One establishing a beachhead in northeast Iberia, pushing westward, the other attack is in the former British territory that the nationalists occupied, and pushing southward."

zKAEkEy.png

"Looks like we're doing okay, but there seem to be supply issues in eastern Iberia."

"Yes your majesty, it seems the ports in the area are poorly developed, and can't bring in enough supplies to support the entire force. We probably should have thought of this before the attack. On the other hand, its really only slowing down the advance and not stopping it."

"I guess you're right."

"Soon after those two forces landed, we brought in a third ground in the south. It was much smaller, but fortunately there was no Nationalist opposition at all down there."

m87oXIX.png

"I imagined we would be able to overpower the Nationalists with our superior army, but I still thought they would put up more of a fight than this. They don't have nearly as large an army guarding Iberia as I expected."

"We were surprised as well, but it appears the Nationalists have sent a large force to defend their African holdings from Tunis and other allies."

bjA1B3M.png

"They seem to be doing a decent job of holding their ground there, but it will make little difference when they lose in Iberia. Continue with the report."

"By October we had liberated the Spanish capital. It was a bit risky to send one division off like that, because the Nationalists could have cut their supply lines, but we figured the Nationalists didn't have any more forces available so we decided to risk it. Meanwhile, our two forces in the north and the east finally came together, and most of the Nationalist forces were caught in the middle. We had them surrounded and soon wiped them out. Only a tiny Nationalist force remained near their capital, but it wasn't nearly enough to slow our advance. We soon secured the surrender of the Nationalists forces and ended the Spanish civil war."

TOhN7xw.png

5mXEwUT.png

"Excellent. The only Axis member left is that fool Brazil, and we still have the Comintern to deal with."

"It appeared that Portugal only had a small army, made up mostly of militia, so we decided we didn't need much to beat them. The rest of the forces in Iberia were soon transported to North America. In North America, the Comintern advance had split Spain's forces in two. The western portion had a larger army, but was cut off from supply and being backed into a corner."

2flg34u.png

"That doesn't look good."

"Indeed it was a pretty grim situation. In the east things were not much better. The Spanish had very little left, and much of what they did have left was being backed into peninsulas with no escape route. The forces we had sent earlier were holding our in New York City, which still had access to supplies, and our large numbers kept deterred the Comintern from attacking. However with new reinforcements coming in from Iberia, we sought to beat back the Comintern advance."

afVDyDa.png

"Looks like Spain is really getting their ass kicked in North America."

"Meanwhile back in Iberia, our forces quickly overran the Portuguese militia, and secured their surrender after about a month of fighting."

iZV8DMr.png

"Looks like the fighting in Europe is now concluded. And we got it done before Christmas. With plenty of time to spare for shopping."

"That is an odd thing to note, considering we are all Buddhist."

"I meant our Spanish allies can have a proper Christmas celebration this year."

"Quite right, your majesty."

A glorious victory over the Axis, and the comintern will not last much longer. Siam is like the regular game USA, only with Soviet style manpower on top of it, simply unstoppable at this rate.

Nice work. The only bad thing is that, at the rate you're going, the Comintern will be defeated before you develop nukes to throw at them.

Unfortunately that did turn out to be the case. The Comintern was crushed so quickly we didn't even get to use nukes.

A glorious victory over the Axis, and the comintern will not last much longer. Siam is like the regular game USA, only with Soviet style manpower on top of it, simply unstoppable at this rate.

Well annexing Britain, Germany and Russia does tend to add a ton of industry and natural resources, so yeah I guess we are like the USA and unstoppable at this point. But we had to come a long way to get to this point. Siamese starting territory was a pretty long way from USA level industry. Although we've pretty much always had piles of manpower, because southeast Asia is pretty densely populated.

Part 20: Anticlimax

"How goes the war against the Comintern?" the emperor asked

"Quite well, your majesty," the Prime Minister answered, "It was clear that due to our nearly infinite industry, mountains of manpower, and reservoir of resources, we would triumph over the Comintern eventually. However, we thought they would at least put up a decent fight at first due to the size of their army. But things turned out even easier than expected."

"Explain."

"After defeating Portugal in the Iberian campaign, a couple important things happened. First, Portugal had two puppet states, Portuguese Mexico and Portuguese Brazil, both of which defected to the Allies after their overlord was defeated. The second thing is that most of the occupied territory in Spanish North America was liberated. The result is that the Comintern forces were deep in enemy territory without any way to bring in supplies. Take a look."

QOhJzLc.png

"So they are basically screwed then?"

"Exactly your majesty. They were able to conduct operations for awhile, but they soon ran out of supplies and were helpless. If their forces were more heavily concentrated in the east, they might have been able to take a port and ship in supplies there, perhaps holding out for awhile and being a major nuisance. But their forces were mostly out west, far from any port."

"What a fortunate turn of events. It certainly kept our casualties a lot lower than they otherwise would have been."

"Indeed. After the fall of Portugal, we used Portuguese Mexico as a staging ground to attack Colombia from the north. They still had a few divisions left to guard their home turf, but the majority of their forces were committed to the invasion of Spanish North America. They couldn't stop the advance of our steel elephants."

K1IWBO9.png

"Meanwhile," the prime minister continued, "we used Portuguese Brazil as a launching point to invade Brazil, and soon secured their surrender. Finally the Axis was officially defeated."

AJbDxFR.png

"And the war against the Comintern?"

"it continued without any major difficulty. Although the invasion of Colombia from the north was continuing its inevitable advance, we decided to speed up our victory and struck deeper into their territory. Our forces stormed the beaches much closer to the Colombian capital and before long we had secured victory."

k3GcISv.png

GboFB9p.png

"So that just leaves Chile."

"Chile as well did not put up much of a fight. They had a few divisions at home, but like Colombia, they had committed a majority of their forces in North America, and left very little to defend their own turf. Our forces in Colombia began invading Chile from the North, but we realized it would take a long time to reach Chile's major cities, so we established multiple beachheads and quickly rushed towards all their major cities. Before long we had secured their surrender as well."

KxZOSNs.png

052m8DJ.png

"So then its over. We are at peace again. Now we must build a new future and find a way to maintain the peace and stability of the world in the aftermath of this devastating war."

"Agreed your majesty. We have some ideas. While you were planning to divide up the occupied territory into states and withdraw in timely manner, we have come up with some alternative ideas. Withdrawal is probably the best for the most part, because it would be too much hassle to try and maintain control over all of it. However, we believe we should permanently annex key regions, in order to access important resources and establish military bases around the world. We have an opportunity here to establish ourselves as the unassailable economic and military super power in the world. That is how we will maintain peace."

"Actually I have another idea. International cooperation."

"Cooperation is for equals, we are the most powerful force on the planet. We can dictate, and others follow."

"I disagree. Trying to maintain peace by ourselves will be far too much work. Through cooperation we can ease our own burden, while still maintaining a leading role. I've been in talks with the Turkish and Spanish heads of state behind your back. While some of the details still have to be worked out, we are all coming to an agreement about the creation of an international organization, which will protect and promote international peace. Of course any nation can join the organization as long as they follow our rules, but our three nations, being the most powerful, will need to take a leading role in the world. As such we will have additional privileges in the organization and a greater say in how it is run."

"I'm shocked that you negotiated this without running it by your loyal ministers. However, the idea of an international organization in which we have special privileges is not a bad one. However, I'm not sure about treating Turkey and Spain as our equals. There can be no doubt we are superior to them."

"While we may be the most powerful, once we return to our old borders we will find they are very close to our equals both in military and economic measures. I can't imagine they would accept this organization without being treated as equals. In any case I've made my decision on the matter. I will be working on the final details with allied heads of state, and we hope to launch the organization before the year is out. It will then get to work on its first tasks, the joint administration of the occupied territories, the division of the occupied territories into independent states, and setting up a timetable for Allied withdrawal from the occupied territories."

"This is a grave mistake, your majesty. We are in control of nearly all of Germany, Russia, Britain, Colombia, and Chile. We alone should decide how they are administered and divided up. Giving other nations a say will only weaken our position. I won't allow you to throw away our dominant position."

"You won't allow it?"

"We'll deal with you just like we dealt with your father. Every minister, every bureaucrat, and most importantly, all the senior military leadership is loyal to the person who put them there. Me. And with the laws passed during the war, restrictions on speech and censorship of the press, it will be easier to deal with nasty rumors about your cause of death."

"You don't understand. I've been taking a pretty hands off approach to the war, because for the last few years I've been involved in a very important investigation. After appointing myself minister of security, and cleaning house within the ministry, I've been investigating the cause of my father's death. I have everything I need to convict you and many of your cronies fro his assassination and cover up. I was reluctant to expose this during the war, because as you said, most of the bureaucracy and military leadership was on your side. Such a major disruption could have cost us the war, but now that its over I see no reason not to expose you. State censorship of the press doesn't do you any good in this case, because the censorship is overseen by the Ministry of Security. I've already seen to it that this story will be run."

"You seem to be forgetting my control of the military. We'll seize every single newspaper publisher by force if that's what it takes, but we will maintain control."

"You may still be have the army leadership in your pocket, and indeed I considered replacing them, but I also decided it was a very risky move in the middle of the war, and left them alone. But early in the war, we were conducting very limited naval operations. It seemed much safer to purge the naval leadership without causing serious disruptions to the war effort. The replacements played their parts well, and made sure to appear loyal to you, but I can guarantee you they are loyal to me. You may have a tiny problem seizing control by military force, when the majority of the army is in South America. And they aren't getting back without my order. There are a few divisions in Europe, but they will have a very long trip, trying to get back here over land."

"Somehow the army will find a way back. They can force the local population to build transports for them."

"You think a bunch of transports are going to get by our navy. It ain't gonna happen."

"Well you can't just leave the army there forever, it will leave Siam open to attack. Another disruption among the east Asian states could ruin us."

"I don't think I'll need to keep them in South America for too long. Sooner or later the rank and file soldiers will hear the truth. No doubt the army leadership will take steps to prevent it, but eventually the story will slip through. Once it does, their loyalty to the emperor will overcome all else. I expect the soldiers to turn over all officers loyal to you in a few weeks. After that, we can bring our boys home. Now then, there are a couple of Imperial Security Agents waiting outside. I suggest you go with them. They will treat you a lot more kindly than the angry mob that will form when this story is made public."

The Prime Minister hung his head in defeat, and walked out to the waiting agents. He knew he had been beaten by the young emperor.

A great victory over the Axis and Comintern indeed, well done.
And so Siam falls to military coup d'etat and juntas taking power, ripping the country apart in civil war in the years and decades after WW2. A shame, they could have been the USA of this timeline, leading an even more powerful NATO against no major opposing powerblock. Politics.........

Thanks for sticking with this until the end and glad you enjoyed it.

Indeed, it was a great AAR but you could have given more info about the ideologies and government types of the mayor powers.

I'm sorry I missed this, for,so long! Great AAR!

Thanks for reading, glad you enjoyed it.

Indeed, it was a great AAR but you could have given more info about the ideologies and government types of the mayor powers.

Good point. Something to keep in mind for future AARs I guess. But if you're still curious, I was a constitutional monarchy with a social conservative ideology. Turkey was an absolute monarchy with a social conservative ideology. Spain had a government of social liberalism and an ideology of market liberal. Germany was a constitutional monarchy with a social liberal ideology. Russia was a constitutional monarchy with a fascist ideology. Britain was also a constitutional monarchy with a social liberal ideology. Chile was a constitutional monarchy with a left wing radical ideology. Portugal was also a constitutional monarchy with a left wing radical ideology. And Colombia was a socialist republic or something like that, with a left-wing radical ideology.

Is there any hope of a civil war or is the AAR over? Regardless of what the case may be, it's certainly been awesome.

I was considering editing the save to bring the civil war to life, but it seems like a lot of work, so I'm not really decided on that. Thanks for reading.

Wait, the Comintern existed out of socialist kingdoms:eek::cool:. What is cooler then that? Anarcho-syndicalist Prussia, run by jews who want to create a 'red' second reich?

Great aar. Sounds like the king has a pretty good grasp on the situation. His security people are probably moving to eliminate opposition now, even in the armed forces.
