I desperately want a Star Trek mod. My goal when I first heard about Stellaris was role playing the Federation with a friend. Obviously it can't be exactly accurate, and while that's unfortunate, on some level I do like the diverging history aspect of it.

So that said, all I really want out of a Star Trek mod is:
Races with portraits and closest matching ethos
Names of all the things
The ships
And sound effect would be cool too.

I don't even need an accurate galaxy map. I just want to cluster start with my friend and build an alternate universe trek.

My concern is that the existing project is going to be trying to create the perfect Star Trek galaxy with everything exactly right and be very specific about everything.

I'd be content with
The UI and sounds
The ships
The key races
names of people/ships/tech
If I end up with the filthy Cardies on my doorstep instead of Vulcan, I'm ok with that.

exact my opinion!

I guess I am somewhere in between when it comes to having an accurate galaxy map. It might be gameplay wise if the systems of the main races are reasonably close to one another, whilst not on top of another. If they are too far apart, there is a large decrease in the chance of ever meaningfully interacting with another Star Trek race. If they are on top of one another, empires might choke each other off early on, disabling their growth. At this moment I am experimenting with semi-random initializers for the large race homeworlds, and I have managed to spawn all important systems in one quadrant of the galaxy. I have not been succesful in accurately spawing the races on these homeworlds.

I care for some degree of plausibility in galaxy map setup. As long as all the main races' systems are there within the proximity ranges I discussed in the previous paragraph, the rest could as well be random.

If the basics are right, any modder aiming for more detailed maps and races could go on from those basics.

That was my chief concern when I saw the strictly accurate map someone was putting together in the mod group. Vulcan and Andoria are literally next door to Earth, which is way too close for them to build a thriving empire in the game. They probably need to be at least 4 or 5 stars away from any other empire spawning star judging from the random starts I've seen in the game.
