The continual Modernization of 1836
While it was often agreed upon that by 1836 Equestria was largely westernize state, to Celestia believed much more could be done to improve the state. Celestia first started with standing down the Pony border patrol who were made up of irregular troops whom were poorly trained and equipped, in order to properly train members of new tactics and reequip the ponies. While at the same time, Celestia wanted Army to be more professional and support esprit de corps rather than what she had called rag tag outfits.
Nevertheless, much of the Equestrian infrastructure was still of pre westernized standards, leaving much to be desired. While it’s true that Canterlot, Manehattan were home to modern ports able to facilitate the modern ships at the time. The roads were of in poor shape, and Northern Equestria and Cloudsdale region lacked any sort of port and railroads were just experimental concept. To prove railroads were the future Celestia commissioned railroad stretching from Baltimare towards Manehattan, though plans were scrapped in Manehattan due difficulty with Manehattan terrains, and instead the initial line would end in Maneterry. Furthermore, ports were commissioned on Baltimare and Cloudsdale county to facilitate trade in the region.
On January 1st 1836 Celestia had proclaimed that each pony would basic fundamental rights much to protest of her court (whom at this time was still made up of largely Unicorn ponies). Explaining this was this was among the first step into a truly modern society.
To ease the qualms of her court Celestia allowed for her ministers to prepare a war against Mexico for Sonora. Sonora was a lightly populated by Buffalos but were pushed out in 1818 to make way for Mexican settlers. With Buffalo population now primarily within Equestria, sent out diplomats and clerks to justify returning Buffalo lands back; with Buffalo remaining as a fief of Equestria of course.
To further prepare and to secure her borders in the North, Celestia sent diplomats to the Kingdom of Griffonia to improve relations and to create a bid for non-aggression pact with the Northern Kingdom.
By January 2nd established the position of First Minister and appointed the unicorn favorite Luddite, a decision Celestia would later regret. A firm traditionalist, Luddite and Celestia would often disagree with topics. At first Celestia had welcome a different of opinion in the court, but as time went on disagreement between the two had started to grow.
But for the time being celebrations of unification of Equestria was being celebrated by Equestrians, with showing of flags and temple attendance on January 4th.
Despite trying to appease the conservatives in her court, several of the wealthy elite had started to gather support in Stalliongrad creating a center of Conservative thoughts and slowly trying to manipulate the populace against Celestia’s current political views for the nation.
Nevertheless, Celestia continued with improvements with the country, by January 23rd 1836 Celestia commissioned a winery factory being reassured that Winery in Northern Equestria would profitable but through various factors, Winery factory was turning out all but profitable. Several cite the lack workers in the area, but the factory remained opened in hopes off drawing additional ponies into the area. By February 11th a baby boom was occurring in Equestria as new foals were being born in higher rates than in the past.
But by March 11th concerns with citizenships within Equestria being controlled by the Unicorns became a hot button issue within Southern Equestria. Southern Equestria was largely made up of Pegasus whom felt that through Unicorn politics many weren’t getting their full rights as Citizens. Hearing the plight of her fellow ponies, Celestia agreed to hear the Pegasus and reassure them corrections would be made.
Tensions sharply rose with when on May 21st 1836 the United States detected trying to justify their claim on Kingdom of Griffonia territory. This was in sharp contrast as the promises made by United States that would respect Equestria’s sphere of influence. Celestia try to arrange a formal alliance with Kingdom of Griffonia to deter United States from attacking Griffonia, but due to arrogance from the King of Griffonia that Griffonia could hold out on its own had prevented any formal alliance made that day.
As preparations for war was made life continued in Equestria as normal, with the public in large show very little concern with the possible incoming war. Even social enlightenment thinking was undeterred as Apple Smith had created The Theory of Moral Sentiments and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of Wealth of Nations.
Though by August 8th 1836, Equestria was prepared and justified with war with Mexico, but the cunning American Mexican alliance had halted plans for the offensive fearing that Equestria can’t take on both Mexico and America in a war.
Though by December 8th 1836, relations with Griffonia was nearing talks of a formal alliance as war with America was looming.
