Inspired by a hatred for the blurple blob and a recent suggestion in the suggestions thread, I'm deciding to try making a submod to break up the greek culture, since I hate myself.

NOTICE: THIS IS CURRENTLY MORE OR LESS JUST A PROOF OF CONCEPT TO GATHER INPUT AND SET PRECEDENT. THIS WILL BREAK THINGS IN ITS CURRENT STATE. DO NOT USE THIS FOR ACTUAL GAMES.

Features:
-New culture groups and cultures, Greek (Siculo-Greek, Pelopennese, Hellene, Thracian, Pontic, Anatolian, Antiochian, Cretan) and Caucasian (Georgian, Alan, Armenian)

To do:
-Change characters to use new cultures
-Change events and decisions to account for new cultures
-Dynamic province culturisation
-Add a melding into Greek culture after 1350 with a weak/absent empire, or the ability to enforce this melding in a strong empire (compare to imperial german)

NOTICE, AGAIN: THIS IS A PROOF OF CONCEPT AND IS VERY BROKEN. THIS IS NOT CURRENTLY MEANT FOR ACTUAL USE.
Input such as advice, suggestions, and criticism is welcome.

@Maal What about bonuses? :)))))

Considering that Greece is fairly well documented compared to things like Severians, it should be relatively simple. The only annoyance is that it would require me to maintain another version as a sub sub mod (I'm currently maintaining 5 versions, if i change one bonus in one of them i have to update them all for consistency). The easy solution for me would be asking cyberTripping to keep the current byzantine cultural group and not split it in 2 renamed groups, but it may goes agains't what he making the mod for. Or he could give ALL of the cultures in his new group different "code names" (not localised names) from the 6 byzantine ones (armenian, greek, alan, georgian, sicilian_greek, arberian) like split_armenian, split_sicilian_greek...

I could most likely maintain only a single file instead of a whole version for his sub mod without any of these 2 solutions, i just hope empty/dead cultures in the culture file won't break anything.

I'll wait and see if this mod take flight or dies grounded before committing.

Do you think the game would be confused if there is a "greek culture" inside the byzantine group while there is a "greek group" also named greek (which would happen in my current planning)? The group code name would need renaming too, but i feel like I'm really stepping on your... "creative liberty" for the sake of my own "simplicity".

I made the greek group codename literally "greek_group" specifically to avoid the problem of a group being named like an actual culture. And it's fine to be concerned about these things. All being said, it wouldn't be too much of a challenge to tweak things down the road if a problem shows up. A bit of "find and replace" here, a bit of "cut and paste" there, yknow. Any way about it, don't get too excited about the specifics right now, the way I have things scheduled means that the earliest version I'd be happy with using in game would be done immediately before halloween. Also, code name changes aren't a creative liberty thing. I could name anatolian "dickbutt" in the code and as long as I was consistent about it it'd be just as fine.

I really need to get my writing under control, it's so scattered. I hope my point was made in there somewhere, though.

Neat idea. I made a name list for Siculo-Greeks based off medieval sources (names of monks, documents of governors and local magnates for the period, etc.) a while back that you might get some mileage out of; it's in the New Culture thread, listed under "Sicilian Greek."
