Hi everyone and welcome to the first development diary after Rights of Man. We have been extremely happy with the enormous popularity of this release, and aim to improve on this level of quality.

We did a survey of the community on Rights of Man, and the features you seemed to love the most was the ruler personalities, leader traits and the consort mechanic.

Here is a quick list of what some of the team’s personal #1 favorite feature is!
  • Johan - Disinherit Heir
  • LittleFido - Ruler Personalities
  • Starnan - Ruler Personalities
  • Trin Tragula - Ruler Personalities
  • BjornB - Consort Mechanics
  • Forzaa - Great Powers
  • Anona - Ruler Personalities
  • DDRJake - Ruler Personalities
  • MrNibbles - Ruler Personalities
  • Imse Vimse - Ruler Personalities

We are aware of the problems some people have with multiplayer and aim to release as soon as we have solved the problems. Meanwhile we are working on a 1.19 patch that we aim to have in public beta in the second week of November, with a final release before the end of the month.

So what is 1.19 then? Well… It’s a really meaty and big patch with new cool and free features. We’re adding some new options to the game, enhancing mechanics for different expansions, improving AI, changing zoc, tweaking game balance, and much more.

1.19 will obviously have a name, and a focus.. Try to guess the name from this new loading screen..

Really looking forward to the Denmark patch!

If Christian of Denmark is the monarch, then, "getting thrashed and humiliated in every war you take part in" must be a major theme.
Nope. Rather government reform, prosperity and building stuff, and ruling in a noble way trying to be just, give good terms for trade, and have good conditions for everybody. That he later forgot many of his initial, noble principles is something else.
Also last time I checked he was victorious in the 1610-1611 Kalmar War.:p (And don't mention 1658, since he was dead by then.)

and even one who failed at it
With regard to war then he had terrible luck. The time he entered the 30 years war was a really bad time to do it; times were much more fortunate a decade later.

My only wish at the moment is changes to the development mechanic, the monarch point system at the moment means provinces are rarely worth improving.

Like to see it move to the economy position and like corrupting, you can spend more money to slowly improve provinces, with ones around the capital and COT increasing first.

As of 1.18, this statement is only really well-founded in western Europe.

Everywhere else, you have institutions to rush.

Not finding I am, in my North American tribal game, the moment the Europeans where on the shore and I had a province touching theirs, I got the 3 institutions really quickly and had no need to develop. I also decided to toy around in Indonesia and still, there is very little reason to develop.

It may have accelerated the process, but as soon as a European is next to you, getting the institutions is quick.

Yeah, I was just playing the fool. Interesting though, both how the traditional historiography of Norway used to have a soft spot for him, and how in general we percieve "active" kings as "good" kings, even though the ones not interferring with local politics often would be better for the local population.

fwiw, I think christian iv tried to be the enlightened monarch in parts of his life, one could see that as redeeming. And from a norwegian schadenfreude/skadefryd pov, there is some comfort in that he was even worse for danes and Jylland than he was for Norway :)

And yes, we like to read about leaders with an aura of action and initiative, but as you mention it is easy to confuse "fun to read about" to "good" - although christian iv is hardly the worst here - there are far worse examples and many countries' history books paint some despicable leaders as veritable saints.

I'm still going to use Christian IV as the anchor when figuring which number fits to which king of the Frederiks and Kristians, though. The danes really could do with some more creativity in naming their sovereigns.

Definitely, it would be a lot easier to remember who did what as well :)

Still no hope for Asia...
The changes to Asia that are wanted/needed are big enough to warrant an accompanying DLC, not just a free patch. But who knows, maybe they will do something small for their religions or something.

Kong Kristian (anthem Denmark) patch?focused on the nordic countries?

sorry for my English knowledge.
Unfortunately, I do not know it perfectly, and I support the translator.

DANISH NATIONALISM OUT OF CONTROL!

:p
Hush you East Anglian; or do you want to get raided again? If you don't watch out we might even put Norwich under the control of Ipswich!:p

The pølse patch. With rødgrød modifiers for Danish provinces.
With a large malus for people who can't pronounce rødgrød med fløde of course.:p

How can I not post Kong Christian now.:p
So lets get going with smashing Swedish skulls like the song sings about doing.
(Also I'm perfectly aware that it doesn't include the second stanza, but for some reason none of the versions on youtube do.)
