Also I don't see a little meta in the first day as bad---or rather I think it is unavoidable lest you want people to just use random.org. Day 1 and to some degree day 2 has always relied on meta to some extent---most notedly meta about play styles and such. Act much differently than normal day 1 and you might very well get run up.
Though obviously the kind of meta where you keep grudges or alliances across games is really bad.
