I`m wondering who will invent computers in this Alternative Dimension on Earth.Inquisition by assistance of Gabriel!Chapter 299: Paradise Lost
31 December 1935 - 3:00 PM
"Raphael," said Wilhelm. "I should have known you were behind this."
He pinned Raphael against the wall harder. "Why are you doing this?!"
"Ah, Wilhelm, you were always the impulsive one," replied Raphael, "You blind yourself to anything which does not back up your position. You're always trying to find a way to blame me for everything."
"Shut up!" said Wilhelm. "Innocent civilians died because of you! Angels died because of you!"
"All in the name of a greater cause, which I could explain to you if you released me," said Raphael.
"Ha, good luck convincing me," said Wilhelm, "Do you really think that I would let you go so easily?"
He pulled a pistol and shot Raphael in the knee before letting him drop on the ground. He tapped the wound, healing it instantly and trapping the bullet inside.
Raphael laughed. "That wasn't even an angel-killing bullet!"
The angel tried teleporting, but he couldn't.
"That bullet didn't kill you, but it did contain a sigil preventing you from teleporting on your own," said Wilhelm, "You're trapped here. Now tell me, why were you carrying out suicide bombings?"
"You don't understand," said Raphael, "Do you know who my men are giving their lives to stop? Gabriel."
"Gabriel?" said Wilhelm.
"He's the one sending those men with the briefcases," said Raphael, "They're delivering more components for a spell he's working on."
"That's ridiculous," said Wilhelm, "Last I heard, Gabriel was working on a spell to protect the humans from our war. How do I know you're not just making up the story right now?"
"Because from what my men are telling me, the ingredients he's gathered aren't for a spell to seal off Heaven," explained Raphael, "We've got spies within Gabriel's circle, and they've told me that he's working on a different spell instead."
Wilhelm sighed. "Of all of the cover stories you could have used, you picked the least believable. I'm not letting you off the hook so easily."
"It's true," said another voice behind him.
He turned and saw that another angel, a woman, had appeared.
"Naomi," said Wilhelm, "What brings you here at this time?"
"Something's happened in Heaven," she said, "I've lost contact with most of Heaven and I don't know why!"
Wilhelm concentrated for a little bit. "That's strange, I've lost contact with several parts of Heaven as well."
"So did I," said Raphael.
"Many angels have heard rumors about Gabriel," she said, "They're concerned about that spell he's trying to cast. The kind of ingredients he's gathering...they're not similar to the ones used to close off Hell. They seem to be for a more powerful spell."
"Concerning," said Wilhelm, "I'll need to alert the Inquisition."
"I'll go check out Heaven and see what's wrong," said Naomi, "I'll be back in a couple hours."
She disappeared.
Raphael grinned at him. "Looks like we're on the same side now."
"We're not on the same side, Raphael," said Wilhelm, "This is just an alliance of convenience until I find out what in God's name is going on here."
9:00 PM
"We've gained only a few pieces of information from the interrogation," explained Niederung, "But the suspect has confirmed Raphael's story. He's also lost contact with parts of Heaven."
"I told you so," said Raphael.
"But isn't that a good thing?" said Wilhelm. "Gabriel is suppI osed to be sealing off Heaven to prevent the civil war from affecting Earth."
"But the spell would instantly recall all angels to Heaven, just as the demon spell did fifty years ago," said Niederung.
"And it doesn't feel like the cutoff is from a spell," said Raphael, "More like somebody sabotaged the network up there."
"I understand," said Niederung, "But why would you need a team of Inquisitors to investigate Heaven?"
"Naomi hasn't shown up as planned," said Wilhelm, "I'm going to need backup if things go wrong up there."
"Storming Heaven isn't the same as invading Hell," said Niederung.
"But something or someone stopped Naomi from coming back down here," said Wilhelm, "We're going to need all of the force we can get to sort this out."
"Gabriel must be stopped," said Raphael, "We cannot allow him to finish the spell."
Niederung sighed. "Fine, I'll assemble the team. Meet me in Spell Room 1 in an hour."
10:00 PM
Wilhelm and Raphael materialized into the medium-sized room, where twenty Inquisitors had already gathered. Each Inquisitor wore not the simple black outfit they normally wore but rather combat fatigues and camouflage. They were armed variously with rifles, pistols, daggers, and, for a few, swords, all designed to kill angels. On the floor was a large complicated sigil, drawn in holy oil.
Niederung emerged from a side door, carrying a torch in his hand. For a man over 100 he still walked very fast.
"Step inside the sigil," he said.
The Inquisitors and angels did so.
"Today, you brave men will visit Heaven, just as an old friend of mine once visited Hell," said Niederung, "I am confident that you will complete your mission and come back successfully. And while you're upstairs, tell God I said hi."
Some Inquisitors laughed quietly at that joke, for most were already scared to death by the fact that they were going to break into Heaven, of all things.
"Good luck." Niederung dipped the torch into the holy oil.
Flames shot through the oil, encircling the Inquisitors and lighting up the sigil, which glowed bright white.
Heaven
The flames died away, and Wilhelm found himself in a hallway, standing on solid, cold, perfecly smooth marble.
Heaven was surprisingly plainer than he expected. Light filtered in from panels in the ceiling. The walls, doors, ceilings, and floor were all pure white with no imperfections in them. They were all perfectly smooth. Everything was so clean and orderly, compared to the last time he was here.
Heaven wasn't made up of puffy clouds and beams of light like humans had assumed. There were no souls wandering around; they were all probably in their own little heaven right now, enjoying whatever paradise had to offer. It was like a high-tech apartment, only there was never anybody in the hallways aside from angels. Speaking of angels, he didn't sense any in the area.
"All clear," he said to the other Inquisitors.
The Inquisitors advanced down the hallway, led by Raphael, guns loaded and ready to fire.
"If I remember correctly, this hallway will lead to the main office room," said Raphael, "That's where Gabriel will most likely be."
The Inquisitors arrived in the main office, which looked the same as when he last saw it about two decades ago, only the lights were off and nobody was working. That was strange, as usually there was at least one angel in the office at all times. He tried searching for them and found that they were all in other parts of Heaven or on Earth.
Wilhelm felt the presence of another angel in the nearby area, but it felt different. He felt more energy radiating from the angel than normal. He was sure that it was the signature of an archangel.
The energy radiated from behind a door leading to a separate office room. Wilhelm pointed at the door, and two Inquisitors approached it silently. With their guns raised, one kicked down the door, and the others stormed in.
"INQUISITION!" one of them shouted. "Surrender and put your hands where I can see them!"
Wilhelm and Raphael walked in after the Inquisitors and saw Gabriel sitting at a desk typing away at a computer, not at all surprised by the sudden intrusion. On the floor lay Naomi, lying facedown in a puddle of blood, a power drill jammed into the back of her head. The angel tablet lay next to the computer, its glyphs glowing white.
Gabriel looked up from his work. "Oh, I wasn't expecting you to bring friends!" he exclaimed, snapping his fingers.
All of the Inquisitors suddenly vanished, leaving just Wilhelm and Raphael. One Inquisitor managed to get one shot before he vanished, but the bullet dematerialized with the rest of the group. Behind the two angels, the door slammed shut and locked itself.
"What is the meaning of this, Gabriel?!" demanded Raphael. "Answer me! I am an archangel!"
"Not anymore you aren't." Gabriel dropped some powder into a small cauldron next to the tablet.
Raphael screamed as he disappeared in a flash of light.
Wilhelm approached Gabriel, dagger in hand, but Gabriel snapped his fingers, and a chair materialized behind him. An invisible force pushed him back into the chair, where leather restraints wrapped around his arms and legs. Another restraint immobilized his head. His dagger shot out of his hand.
"I apologize for the restraints," said Gabriel, "But I couldn't take any chances. And that archangel was getting very annoying."
"What in Heaven are you doing, Gabriel?" Wilhelm demanded.
Gabriel drew a small angel dagger and approached Wilhelm.
"What I should have done years ago," said the archangel.
People not affiliated with angels or the Inquisition will invent computers. Computers are not the Inquisition's job to invent.I`m wondering who will invent computers in this Alternative Dimension on Earth.Inquisition by assistance of Gabriel!
P.S.:It wouldn`t be weird if some Commies will destroy computers just because it`s "invention of clergy and Athanatoi",and if Steve Jobs will be Inquisition IT-agent?
GHANDI..... NAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!Mohandas Gandhi
The hell does dat mean?Götterdämmerung
Calm down, please. It's a game not real life.GHANDI..... NAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Gibbi, why'd you do it Gibbi? God needs to smack some sense into these fools.
The hell does dat mean?

Oh.......Fuuuuuuuuack.
Thanks for staying on! I had my own share of bugs over the course of this AAR too. Sometimes the forum deleted my pictures, and sometime it deleted the entire update as well! But at least that's over, and now we can focus on HOI3.So the forum bugged out and didn't notify me about the last four updates, but that was quite an awesome read. This is certainly quite awesome.
Exactly.GHANDI..... NAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Gibbi, why'd you do it Gibbi? God needs to smack some sense into these fools.
The hell does dat mean?

Oh.......Fuuuuuuuuack.
"Twilight of the Gods" just sounded too cool to pass up on a title (it'll be the title for the HOI3 AAR). And you can see in my last screenshot I renamed the vanilla scenario to accommodate my changes.Calm down, please. It's a game not real life.
Also, "the dusk of the gods" is just title for vanilla HOI III's scenario.
Well,we all waiting new thread!Chapter 300: Götterdämmerung
"Gabriel, stop!" said Wilhelm, struggling against his restraints. "What have we ever done to you? What have I ever done to you?"
"Do you have any idea what it would be like to be plucked from obscurity, to sit at God's feet, to be asked to write down his word?" replied Gabriel. "The ache I felt when he was gone, telling myself, 'Father's left, but look what he's left us -- paradise.' But you kids couldn't leave well enough alone. You ran me from my home. Did you really think you could do all of that to me and there'd be no payback?"
He pointed his dagger at Wilhelm. "Centuries ago, I was chosen to be God's scribe. I wrote down the word of God himself! And yet you guys always treated me as just another angel. You forced me to leave Heaven and live alone on Earth for thousands of years. Don't you remember? Oh, that's right, I forgot all you young ones have very limited memories!"
Gabriel slammed Wilhelm's head back on the rest of the chair. He pressed his dagger against the angel's neck and started cutting away. Wilhelm screamed as grace seeped out through the cut.
"Shh!" whispered Gabriel. "I want you to stop thinking about master plans, Heaven and angels, humans and Inquisitions, Hohenzollerns and Kaisers and Reichs, and especially all of this. That doesn't concern you anymore."
Gabriel held a small vial to Wilhelm's neck, and Wilhelm's grace flowed into the vial until there was none left within Wilhelm. Then Gabriel capped the vial and placed a hand over Wilhelm's cut. The cut healed as he slid his hand across it.
"These were never trials, Wilhelm," said Gabriel, "As I told you many years ago, this is a spell. And what I'm taking from you now -- your essence, your Grace -- is the last piece. The briefcases were just to lure you here and make things more dramatic. Raphael...he was just a demonstration of what I am about to do."
"And now something wonderful is going to happen, for me and for you," said Gabriel, "You're human now. I want you to live this new life to the fullest. Go attend to the family of my namesake, your vessel. Care for his wife. Be a father for his son. And when you die and your soul returns to Heaven, provided you don't do anything stupid down there, find me. Tell me your story."
"Hmm?" said Wilhelm, weakly.
"Now go." Gabriel placed his hand on Wilhelm's head. "Goodbye!"
A bright light surrounded the room, and then Wilhelm was gone.
"And now the conclusion," said Gabriel to nobody in particular.
He sat back down at his desk and put his hand on the tablet. The tablet's glyphs glowed brightly, and the archangel began chanting in the ancient angel language.

Berlin, Germania - 31 December 1935, 11:59 PM
Field Marshal Erich Ludendorff found Kaiser Otto on one of the balconies overlooking Berlin. He appeared to be lost in thought, watching life in the capital move on. It wouldn't be long before the bells of the Kaiser Sigismund II Memorial Church and the Kaiser Franz Joseph Cathedral started tolling in celebration for the new year.
"A new year, a new Diet," said Ludendorff.
Otto turned around. "Oh, it's you."
"Sorry for bothering you so late, sir," said the former general and war hero, holding out a small file, "But the Bureau of the Interior has just sent us the projected changes in the Diet composition for the upcoming year."
"Let me see that." Otto took the file and read it over. "It seems the Angeloi lost over a third of their seats to the liberals and the socialists. Thankfully that removes their majority."
View attachment 216416
"I wonder how you'll phrase that in your speech tomorrow," said Ludendorff.
"Erich, I won't bring it up as a main point," Otto explained, "Instead, I'm considering overhauling the Diet significantly."
"How?"
"Well first I would suspend such rapid changes in composition and keep the current composition for the next ten years. I'll let the current Diet sort itself out and reorganize itself."
"But you would give the Angeloi ten years to rule over the Diet," replied Ludendorff.
"A necessary sacrifice to placate the Angeloi," said Otto, "The proposal would distract them and force them to focus on consolidating their power, while the other factions will have time to band together and drive them out entirely."
"I see. But this practice has endured for a century since the revisions to the Code."
"The world is changing, Erich. Only one of the great powers in 1836 still remains a great power in 1936 without any lasting regime changes, and that is us. But don't bet on our luck lasting the next ten years. Our population has grown to encompass two billion citizens; the next populous country, China, only has one billion citizens. More citizens means more manpower, yes, but it also means more room for dissent and opposition. Add that to the chaos and resolution of the war and another war is inevitable down the road. Look how much damage Angelos did so far. We have to be ready."

"I see your rhetoric classes have taught you well," said Ludendorff.
"What can I say?" said Otto. "I'm the Kaiser."
At that moment, his eyes widened and stared up at something in the sky.
"Sir, what is it?" said Ludendorff.
The Kaiser pointed skywards. "What the hell is that?"
Ludendorff looked upwards. "My God..." he muttered.
Normally he didn't swear, but this time he couldn't help it.
And the bells started to ring...

Kiev, Soviet Commune - 1 January 1936, 12:59 AM
Premier Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov groggily staggered into the conference room, helped by two of his bodyguards. Why was Trotsky calling him to an emergency meeting in the middle of the night? It was bad enough to be wake up to a knock on the door after midnight. It was even worse to be summoned before the chairman after several hours of vodka drinking.
Leon Trotsky had arrived before him. The most powerful man in Russia sat at one end of the table, wearing his usual plan suit and tie. Molotov sat down on the other end of the table, and the bodyguards saluted and left the room, closing the door behind them.
"Good morning, Molotov," said Trotsky, "I apologize for summoning you at this time, but I have important matters to discuss with you."
Trotsky passed Molotov a few papers, some with the stamp of a local hospital and others with the seal of the Politburo.
"My doctors have diagnosed me with high blood pressure," said Trotsky, "They say that if I continue to work like this, there is a high risk of a cerebral hemorrhage happening which could cause some...incapacitating side effects. Therefore, tomorrow I shall announce my retirement from politics. With the Politburo's support, I have decided to appoint you as my successor. Don't worry, if you have any questions or just want to talk you can always reach me over the phone."
Molotov did not believe it.
"And no, you are not imagining this," said Trotsky.
"But am I imagining what's going on outside?" Molotov pointed out the window.
"You're not imagining--what?" Trotsky spun around and stared out the window. "What the...am I drunk or something?"

Nanjing, China - 1 January 1936, 6:59 AM
Zhu Zhaohe, the Xuantong Emperor of China, woke up to a commotion outside his quarters. He turned over in his bed and hoped whoever was outside quickly realized their mistake and went away.
When he still heard voices outside five minutes later, he got quite annoyed. He changed into some more appropriate robes and walked outside.
"What is all this commotion about?!" he demanded to the small crowd of servants and politicians gathered in the courtyard outside his room, talking in hushed tones to each other and looking upwards.
He even spotted General Chiang Kai-Shek and Chancellor Wang Jingwei among the crowd. The Chancellor noticed the emperor and quickly bowed, averting direct eye contact.
"Your Majesty," said Wang Jingwei, "Do you know what that is?"
He pointed skywards.
Zhu looked up and was astounded by what he saw. "It's...it's a sign from heaven."
"A sign that we've lost the Mandate of Heaven?" said Chiang.
"No," said Zhu, "That Daqin did."

Netabankar (Neta Bunker), Delhi - 1 January 1936, 4:29 AM
"Sahib!" said one of his aides. "You have to see this!"
Chandra Gupta shot out of his bed. "What is it now?" he muttered.
"You'll see." the aide rushed out of the room.
Gupta shuffled out of his bedroom, a bit annoyed. He was going to fire this man if he found what he was going to see a waste of time.
He walked down a hallway, and the Rasa guards raised their arms in a salute as he passed.
"Jai Hind!" they shouted.
He found the aide at a balcony, pointing at the sky. "Have you ever seen anything like that before, sir?" he said.
"No," said Gupta, looking skywards in awe, "But it's beautiful..."
He turned to his aide. "The gods have sent us an omen of the things to come. In using the Nagastra weapon against our enemies, they have blessed our people and our nation. We shall surely make India great again, or my name is not Mohandas Gandhi!"

Copenhagen, Denmark - 31 December 1935, 11:59 PM
King Thorbjorn I af Estrid arrived in the courtyard, where dozens of politicians, generals, and even veteran berserkers had gathered, all looking upwards.
"What is going on out here?" said Thorbjorn. "You should all be asleep!"
One old berserker general, a Weltkrieg veteran whom Thorbjorn knew to be not easy impressed, simply pointed upwards in awe.
The former Fylkir looked up. "Asgard is in flames," he said, "Ragnarok has finally arrived."

Inquisition Headquarters, Vienna, Germania - 31 December 1935, 11:59 PM
The Inquisitors materialized in the middle of Niederung's office. Before Niederung could as much as notice their sudden appearance, the bullet caught by the teleportation had also materialized and resumed its course. Pain exploded as the bullet tore through his chest, coming to a rest just below his heart. It was a fatal wound. Of all of the ways to go, he never expected to die like this, killed by one of his own men due to Gabriel's machinations.
The Inquisitor who fired the gun rushed to his side, horrified by what he had done, followed by the other Inquisitors. Niederung collapsed on the floor, grasping at his chest wound.
"Sir!" said an Inquisitor.
As the life ebbed out of him, lights started flashing on panels everywhere, and alarms blared throughout the Inquisition building. Machines came to life and buttons lit up. The map display on his wall also lit up. Spots appeared all over the map, indicating supernatural incidents occurring everywhere around the world. Other Inquisitors rushed past the room, shouting orders to each other. He realized that there was a Code Red emergency in progress, meaning that there was a large-scale paranormal event occurring. There had never been a Code Red before in the history of the Inquisition. Something horrible was happening.
He looked out the window and realized what was really happening.
"My God..." he whispered weakly as everything faded to black.
He looked at the Inquisitor who had accidentally shot him.
"What is your name, son?" he said.
"Engelbert Dollfuss, sir," replied the Inquisitor.
"I forgive you, Inquisitor Dollfuss," said Professor Owen Niederung, before everything faded to black, "Avenge my death."

Outside Vienna, 31 December 1935, 11:59
Raphael woke up in a large steaming crater in the middle of a field. His clothes and vessel's body were mostly intact, except for a few singed hairs. Gabriel's spell really did a number on him, for he barely had the energy to pull himself out of the crater.
He stood up in the middle of the field and dusted off his outfit. He wondered where Gabriel had sent him. After spotting some city lights on the horizon and the banks of a nearby river leading towards that city, he deduced that he was somewhere outside of Vienna, which was good, as he didn't have to teleport far to get back in touch with Niederung and the Inquisition.
With that done, Raphael attempted to teleport back to Vienna, but he found that he couldn't. He tried harder, but he still couldn't move. There was something wrong with his ability to teleport. He tried contacting Heaven. All he got was chaos. The angels up there were all confused for some reason. And then suddenly they all started screaming, filling his head with their cries. All communications abruptly broke off in mid-scream, and after that he could no longer contact Heaven.
Gabriel's spell had apparently done something to him that severed his link to Heaven. But what had he done? He felt so helpless without his ability to teleport. Raphael wondered if he could somehow reverse the spell and reestablish his link and if the other angels had been affected by the spell. If so then angelkind was facing its worst crisis since the Apocalypse.
Something in the corner of his eye compelled him to look up. "Holy...Father..." he said.
He shook his fist. "GAAAAAAAAAAAAAABRIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLL!"

Sarajevo, Illyria - 1 January 1936, 12:00 AM
"Gav?" Wilhelm heard a woman say. "Are you alright?"
He realized somebody was shaking him. He opened his eyes and saw Nat cradling his--no, Gavrilo Princip's--body. Wilhelm found himself lying in the middle of a small crater.
He sat straight up, finding that the crater was in a field behind Gavrilo's house. Neighbors were already peering out of their houses, trying to find out what the commotion was all about.
"Gav!" said Nat. "Is that you?"
"It's Wilhelm," said Wilhelm, "Gavrilo is safe."
"What happened?" said Nat.
"I have no idea," said Wilhelm, "But I feel...different."
He tried snapping his fingers or teleporting, but he found that he couldn't use any of his powers. He also felt weak, as if something was missing from him.
"Gabriel," said Wilhelm, "That madman. He took my grace and turned me into a human."
"What about Gav?" said Nat.
"He's fine," explained Wilhelm, "But if I don't get my grace back soon, his mind won't be for long. A human brain can't handle more than one human consciousness simultaneously."
He looked around. "We're in Sarajevo," he said.
"That's right," said Nat.
"I have to get back to Vienna," said Wilhelm, "Something's wrong, and the Inquisition needs me."
Nat didn't respond.
"Natalie Milosevos," said Wilhelm.
"What's happening?" said Nat, pointing up at the sky.
Wilhelm looked up and gasped.
It was partially cloudy tonight, and the moon perfectly illuminated everything that was going on. As he looked on, each cloud briefly glowed as several dozen streaks of light fell earthwards. To the untrained eye, they looked like meteorites falling from space, and for all intents and purposes they were, but Wilhelm knew otherwise. As the projectiles hurtled through the sky, long tails of flames and smoke trailing from them, he saw what looked like angel wings break off from each projectile. For a second he thought he could make out the outlines of each angel within the flames, tumbling and flailing helplessly as they fell to earth. The sky was filled with falling angels. There were hundreds, maybe even thousands, of them falling just in the vicinity of Sarajevo. There could be millions more falling around the world. So many angels falling at the same time...that was just a recipe for catastrophe. And so many angels on Earth simultaneously...if a handful of angels managed to cause the Apocalypse, he could only imagine what millions of them could do.
The first angels reached the ground, slamming into various houses, fields, pastures, rivers, lakes, parks, and streets. People screamed and ran as fire and brimstone rained down from the sky. Many were thrown on the ground by the shock waves or shredded by shrapnel and debris. Within seconds half of the suburb had been leveled. He could only imagine the damage in the major cities and the ensuing public reaction. It was like Sodom and Gomorrah again, only on a global scale. There was no way the Kaiser and the Inquisition could cover up an event of this magnitude.
"Oh no," said Wilhelm, "This is not good. Not good at all."
"What is it?" asked Nat.
"Angels," said Wilhelm, "They're falling. They're all falling."
"What does that mean?" said Nat.
Wilhelm turned towards Nat, a grave expression on Gavrilo Princip's face.
"It means that Götterdämmerung has begun," said Wilhelm.
