Hello everyone and welcome to the first development diary for Europa Universalis IV in the year of 2017!

I see two potential problems:

Example Castille: it is already a very railroaded nation - you need to pick exploration first, build colonial nation, etc. It is the dominant choice given the NI and the geographic location. Now playing that age as best as possible to receive that bonus is also the dominant choice. Castille ends up pretty scripted from beginning to end, just when at that age you might start to have more freedom and might want to start to focus on something else after colonizing game has been won/ well established.
I agree with this, Castile/Spain gets shot in the foot if they convert, heck even one of their NI are just Catholic...
OT: The age of reformation seems good I like almost all the things added, to be expected...

I am not too happy with the "Centers of reformation target you 50% less." Basically what this does is just passing on the problem to someone else and not slowing down the overall spread. A better way to make it would be "Centers of reformations are 80% slower at converting your lands."

Right now the reformation is super strong and you want to slow it down everywhere. Yes, its nice that it dosent hit your lands as much but instead it will just convert your neighbors faster, increasing reformation spread.

+1 Legitamacy... Personally I as hoping the bonus for Poland would be spaceships...
There is a game I used to play called Sins of a Solar Empire. In it, you can find various artifacts on your planets. One of them is Space Ponies. They do nothing whatsoever, and thus there is no benefit to gaining them; arguably, there is a net detrimental effect as it means you don't get a useful artifact instead. However, there is an achievement for them, and I'm quite pleased they're in the game regardless.

I would be totally happy to see Poland get +1 Spaceships for their reward, even if it has no effect.

I said this once and I will say it again. This ages thing is NOT a good idea.

It makes game more linear, it railroads the game and makes strong stronger and all of that just that the map in 1820 looks somewhat similar to what it really looked like.

Paradox you are trying to do that since you released the game.
Lucky nations, institutions (especially printing press), tons of free mana and goodies in flavor events and almost every DLC, all of it just to make sure that the "right" countries turn into superpowers and rest disappear. Instead of going for sandbox and historically accurate process you are going of historically accurate outcome.

And you still fail every time, and not because you didn't buff the heavy hitters enough but because the AI sucks and because historically speaking lot of stuff happening (like Muscovy taking down PLC or Brandenburg going toe to toe with Austria) was very improbable.

johan seems to think that +1 legitimacy is a great NI

these are the people that are balancing your games

If you can play any country in the world, it's obvious that you expect the game's mechanics to take that that into account.
No matter what the name is.

The fact that most of the objectives can be reached by non european countries doesn't mean that it's not eurocentric.
The era's borders are eurocentric.
Their names are eurocentric.
The objectives are eurocentric (they fit objectives europeans had in these eras).

Eras should be different depending the tech group.

As it is, it is going to suck.
I usually buy DLC's day one and eyes closed but this time I'll think twice.

Besides the eurocentrism, I don't like the mechanic itself.
Paid achievements providing bonuses out of nowhere.
There is no reason why reaching objectives should provide these effects. It looks more something like "hey you played well, congrats ! Here is your medal".

There are so much other aspects to improve, what's wrong with you Paradox !

To be entirely fair, per @Johan's earlier post in the thread, he doesn't think it's a great idea, and furthermore is taking other suggestions seriously, like the poster posters who recommended it be goods produced.

Generally speaking I agree with your sentiment, and have expressed it myself in other posts here, but in this case it does appear they are listening, so I'm going to try to give the benefit of the doubt.

I'm hugely upset, the our lovely Russia never did the "culture conversion" to make people tolerant in Kazan for example without picking IRL humanist ideas.
In fact most of the people of Kazan are still Tatars like my wife.

in this case this is one more attempt to sell us yet another incomplete piece of mechanic, implemented over another mechanic without looking back.

We already have National Ideas, why don't to integrate these unique bonuses with NIs?
We already have events, decisions, missions, triggered modifiers as systems which allow country to get temporal/permanent bonuses. why don't to integrate splendor mechanic there?

Please, stop making over the top content...
Completely agree. I won't be buying this expansion but no doubt this update will be shoved down our throats anyway for free. It's so bad to make such dramatic changes to a game this old now. Save it for EU:V

After the last few expansions I just don't enjoy EUIV anymore, everything feels railroaded now and the new mechanics are a hassle and just hinder fun.

I have to admit that so far I'm disappointed with how Ages are panning out. I understand that the game is centered on the rise of European influence and all but I am concerned that other regions will be left behind in the process. Specifically, if there is no alternative missions for non-European nations for each Age then that weakens the overall gameplay in other areas.

I did have more I wanted to say but based on some changes that seem to be affecting Asia, I'm waiting to see how those will pan out. I do hope that other regions will not be forgotten when dealing with Ages though!

Well, no effect at all would be a waste of a one time period constraint special ability. Perhaps an espionage action to plant a probe in a rival ruler? It would give you an update if they plan to go to war as if you had a highly developed spy network even if it stands at zero.

On a more serious note, I think the bonus to grain production/price is very fitting. Either way, I think the nation specific special abilities should be a primary consideration for the player. If I play a nation with a specific special age ability and I unlock 3 and haven't picked that one, it's a waste of an ability slot.

This contentious new objectives-and-bonuses system has been explicitly stated to be a paid feature.

If you want them to do EU5, stop buying EU4 DLC.

If you want to stop receiving large updates to EU4, use the Steam Client's "Betas" feature to select your preferred version of the game.

Not really too interested in these golden age mechanics especially since institutions remain so barebones and poorly implemented.

Still glad to see a hint of a china content addition in that screenshot (the tab next to HRE :p ). Only dead last on the line of ROTW areas that have gotten content which is a bit of a bitter pill but better late than never.
