The real question is why is Scotland separate from England here? I think it would have been better to just branch off the British Empire as simply the Commonwealth and add space for other nations to go in.

I think it's more of an "Axis v Allies" kinda thing rather than "Nation v Nation" thing. Since all the unit decks are represented by divisions (like the US 101st) and since the UK had Scottish Divisions, it's likely that is how Scotland is being represented.

In other words: In Wargame we had BLUFOR v REDFOR, with the US/UK/GER/FRA/et al. on BLUFOR and USSR/CHINA/POLAND/et al. on REDFOR. In Steel Division we'll have the 101st US Airborne (and others) on ALLIES and the GER 12th SS (and others) on AXIS.

England, France, Poland, Canada, and Scotland also represented

Fusilier Tom Payne of 11 Platoon, 'B' Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers, Normandy, 12 August 1944.

The 4th, 6th and 7th Battalions, all Territorial units, served in 158th (Royal Welch) Brigade assigned to the 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division. They took part in the Battle of Normandy at Hill 112, where the 53rd Division suffered heavy casualties. Due to heavy fighting and casualties in Normandy, some of the battalions were posted to different brigades within the division.

The last 10 years there have been shitloads of WW2 games with Russia.

The 10 years before that there were shitloads of WW2 games focussing on the Western side.

The next 10 years? Even more WW2 games! Hooray!

Madmat, I like you more and more sir!

You buggers at Eugen were responsible for my mountain of 3mm Cold War gone hot figures! European Escalation style!

(talking of that, just putting it out there - there are a group of us who are waiting for a classic 1985 Cold War gone hot. Just sayin' ;) )

I suspect they dont mean it to be seperate, but just the highland divison representing the British infantry division so to speak.

As I've already stated elsewhere, Scotland isn't a separate nation, it must be some invetion from an overzealous journalist whom have heard about Socttish troops in Normandy.
The "nations" represented ingame are USA, UK, Germany, Canada, France & Poland.

Obligatory "FREE SCOTLAND!!1" braveheart.jpeg ;)

And all of us will see other nations in add-ons or DLС. First of all I of course am interested in the USSR, but also about Hungary, Italy, Japan and Army Polish (red Poles) I am interested too.

''Another WW2 game without the Soviet Union''
Careful what you wish for, if Eugen Systems
didn't portray the Soviets the ''correct'' way Russia might ban the game and the forums will be flooded with angry Russians.

But...but...where are the Norwegians?
Also: inb4 someone asks for Finland =p

Joking aside, though. I'd say this is looking very promising. Presumably any singleplayer campaign will be restricted to pitting allied divisions against German ones, while multiplayer will be more of a free-for-all?

I'm pretty sure the Normandy decision was based on the fact that (in my experience) 20% of the Wargame Community (and unfortunately the loudest part) seem to Russian Putinists who use the Chat like a Propaganda Film.

It's not like Eugen didn't just make three games in a row with the Soviet Union or anything. I also wonder if you guys know how much modeling work and crap Eugen does? This seems very standard with what they've done in the past. EE started with a much lower number of units and slowly sky rocketed throughout the series. They want to focus on the west let them focus on the west, muh Russia isn't a point or valid criticism it's just your preference. I could argue a game on China and Japan needs made because no one ever makes that game. It had some serious carnage and scale. It'd be nice if I the devs could magically put every nation in the game. But that's not how reality works. It's a lot of effort and time to make these things and you can't just whip up 250 high quality models of Russian equipment. They picked somewhere to start with the game..let'm finish and lets see the quality. DLC and other stuff I'm sure will be pumped out given Paradoxs nature.

Side Note: There's also a game being made right now called Gates of Hell that features the Eastern front solely. It's a RTS else and highly aiming for realism.
