I played Wargame and posted on the forum, but I also love EU4 and HoI, and have more hours on those than the Wargames.

to be fair, the culture/habit of trolling upon the public by the moderators and devs didn't help... if anything it kinda made the culture more toxic than it needed to be.
-"Flavour"
-The obvious/overt French Bias
-The insistence to essentially pick on and/or torment the captian America crowd, even when they had valid points
-Calling everyone who countered the devs narrative (or called them out on things) a "fan boy"
The list goes on and on... they did kinda bolster and encourage ppl to get a bit nasty.
The problem is certain folks kept asking for ridiculous bullshit so often that it made it impossible to ask for reasonable things. Eventually it became futile and that's when I threw in the towel. I'm sure they're still in there at this very moment asking for LAHAT firing Abrams, LOSAT Humvees, and Deltas with Javelins.
You should add "incompentent French bias" to your list of gripe, for so far, with all our wicked attemps to bring the world under French domination, it has failed to convert into a win ratio bringing France higher than a mid-board nations.
And on the other hand, our supposedly obedience to Western customer and constant stance on nerfing and "killing" USSR at every patch has failed to bring them down from their eternal #1 place.
