I see someone has been doing his homework ... :)

21. Panzerdivision is indeed an armored division like any other in the Heer. Most of its equipement comes from Baukommando Becker, a workshop managed by Major Becker here on the left, with Rommel and 21. PzD's commander Feuchtinger.

But for the recon Abteilung and half the Panzer which were organized along regular German TO&E lines, the rest of its vehicles were either French or French modified vehicles.
On the one hand, 21. Panzerdivision was much weaker than other armored divison, but on the other, thanks to Becker's craftmanship, it got some unique vehicles, among which the first PaK 40 mounted on a (French Unic) half-track, monthes before its official German counterpart SdKfz 251/22 entered service.

Just like the British 79th Armored Division with all its special purpose tanks was dubbed "Hobbart's Funnies", 21. PzD could be dubbed "Becker's Funnies".

Hobart's Funnies Confirmed?

This is indeed a very interesting division, I just love how the germans managed to make outdated french stuff still worthy. And there are more units that weren't mentionned in this thread!

First of all, the Spw U304(f). This was a french halftrack (the Unic P107) which was turned into an armored vehicle by the Germans to work with the Sdkfz 251. There were a transport version with 2 MG34, an AA version with a 20mm Flak 38 gun, an AT version with a 37mm gun (idk if it was still operated by 1944) and a 8cm mortar version.

They also got a variety of rocket launchers and mortar units, such as the Reihenwerfer (actually tiered 8cm french Brandt mortars) on Somua S303 and 307, 8cm mortars on the Renault R35 and 40 and on the AMR 35, 28/32cm Wurfrahmen on Hotchkiss H35 to 39 tanks and Renault UE tankette, 8cm Vielfachwerfer on Somua S303 and 307 and on Unic TU1 (U305) halftracks, and finally the 15cm Nebelwerfer 41 on Somua S303 and 307.

For AT duties, they could use the Pak 40 75mm gun on U306 and Lorraine halftracks, as well as the Hotchkiss and FCM 36 tanks.

It might be interesting to have a variety of TDs as the tanks were better armored (40mm on the hull but thin superstructure) but slower (36km/h for the Hotchkiss H39, 24km/h for the FCM).

They also used Flakpanzers 38(t), Hotchkiss H39 (long barrel 37mm gun, 36kph speed) and various variants of the Sdkfz 251 (including 20mm AA and short 75mm L24 gun variants)

For recon, they could use the sdkfz 221 and 222 (armoured cars with an MG on teh former and a 20mm gun on the later), or the Sdkfz 232 and 233.

Did they use the french AML 178?

Hopefully we will see the whole roster so that we can choose bewteen mobility (Lorraine based units) or armor (Hotchkiss).

Do you Eugen know everything about the units used by the 21. Panzer division already?

When it comes to German divisions in Normandy, Zetterling is the author you're looking for.

Of course.
They are what makes this division unique.

Will the Somua model, and any other RUSE unit model that'd be used for this game's setting, be updated from the one used in RUSE or will there be an entirely new model? I'm assuming the latter because of the smaller scale and Ubisoft, but just wondering.

Nope. He meant more detailed models. Little bit more shiny and fancy. I am up for it, as one thing i really hate is if tanks are named specifically but you can prove them wrong with other Ausf. or something similar. I am really looking forward to it.

Well we could argue about how some of the camo nets were attached to the vehicles (looking at you Leo 2A4 NL) but all in all you could see an ascent of quality. I still love the Sturmi with its wooden 'extra armor' ;). Vehicles used in combat are not shiny and do not look like they just rolled out of the factory and it seems as Eugen tried to fight that with the last DLCs. I am happy that this style will be retained.

But especially with the camos, the different Versions or (Ausführen) you could put in a lot of detail in the models and i am sure, that Eugen did this and that MadMat especially had an eye on that.

Well, some weapons are modelled already in Wargame. StG44 e.g. for Yugoslavia will surely be in the same way in Steel Division. Same goes for Thompsons etc.
