I was just hoping to see if i could get a replay from a Dev' in regards to weather a better 4k display is in the works. I have CKII, EUIV, and Stelaris i love all three game and id love to play them in 4K. but the UI in all three games doesnt scale and its god-aweful trying to play the game in 4K on even a 28" screen. It leaves my with no choice but the downgrade to 1920-1080, that makes me sad :(

(Nvm, ignore post)

I agree. One of my friend likes big screens and would like to be able to play Stellaris on it without scrapping his eyes.

And without even thinking about 4k, in 1920 x 1080, it's difficult to read some writings in EUIV and CK2, to the point where there are mods increasing the size of texts, which is a bit strange for people not initiated to PDX games...

There is (experimental) UI scaling in Stellaris and EU4, check in the settings.txt files.

I know. It didn't work for various reasons, mainly because it was a secondary screen (his TV).

I play on 4k too. If scaling isn't an option, the "1080p UI" mods can help, but I've found manually setting the resolution to 1920x1080 or lower to be the only way to play.

Some notes by game:

CK2: Changing resolution is the only workable option.

EU4: Changing resolution is the only workable option.

HoI4: Works great at 4K.

Stellaris: The UI scaler at 1.5~2 is good for 4K.

Vic2: Changing resolution down to 1366x768 or lower is the only way to play.

4K overhauls (or borrowing HoI4's UI design) would be great. Paradox, please?

I suspect it's far too late in the lifecycle of CK2 or EU4 to make such a fundamental change. And of course Vic2 ceased development some time ago.

I don't own a 4K monitor (yet...), what makes HoI4 work well, but not Stellaris?

HoI 4's UI seems to have been designed with a philosophy of making sure that it's easy to read and uses icons and large text to communicate information more often than not. Stellaris is half-way between EUIV and HoI4 in that regard, the Stellaris UI also makes good use of icons but does have quite a lot of small text that doesn't scale well.

Here's a simple example of what I'm talking about, events in each game:

HoI 4:

Stellaris:

You can easily see that far less screen space is dedicated to the event box, leading to smaller, more condensed text which is made harder to read at higher resolutions. The Stellaris UI scaler in this case is very useful, whereas with HoI4 even without scaling the text is more or less readable without straining.
