With the maps being smaller (less deep) will be see less units on the screen than we did in red dragon?
If it is only 20 units or so on screen then we may as well be playing COH or MOW. Combat Mission of course is in a league of it's own.

My guess is the scale is definitely smaller than Red Dragon. And that may just be an inevitable result of having more detailed infantry combat - it's difficult to increase complexity in one area without decreasing complexity in others. My hope is that the scale is still noticeably bigger than Men of War or Company of Heroes.

I tend to agree with you Raven. I think the scale will be smaller. But I very much enjoyed the massive scale of red dragon.
I am wondering how silly aircraft and supply will look on such small maps. Certainly Half Tracks and Transport Trucks are pretty much useless in small maps. Because combat is so localised that you cannot get away from the armour being able to shoot all over the map. Where with red dragon maps transporting troops would have been important, a unit with good transport would have been very useful. In smaller maps where foot infantry march on and can get to the front quickly..... well you see where I am going.

Primarily here though I am wondering how many units can be brought on. Because I want this game to be about platoons of tanks not just single tanks. etc.
I want to bring on a battalion at a time not just a single unit of infantry.

You know whole organic units. Command units and their sub units in their entirety.

Yeah, that's a huge drawback of games like Men of War. The map is so cramped that maneuver is almost impossible, because (line of sight permitting) tanks can shoot nearly from one side of the map to the other on most maps. You also can't zoom out enough to get a good overall picture of the battle, so you feel hemmed in and even further cramped.

I think we havent seen a 10 vs 10 map at this time.
In Red dragon, In 1 vs 1 (or 2 vs 2) maps there were not many units.
I think we will command the same number of units like in the three wargame games.

If we want to play tactical, we will need a lot of units on screen.
Some for a attack, some for defends and some for counter - attack.
If u have less units and u lose them, the frontline will collabse. So u need some tropps in the second (defends) line.

We will not have strategic points like in Wargame. We will fight at the whole frontile.
So we need a lot of units at the same time, everywhere on the map

Where are we seeing overall map sizes? Bear in mind, from what has been said, I believe the maps are supposed to expand in size in each phase, so maybe you are looking at maps in phase 1.

There'll always be high points games and low points game like in RD for hosted servers. Maybe even phase only games if the modding support is good enough, now that would be nice, having tier1 only games etc.

Well I kinda wanted to see a full regiment at least in operation just like in combat mission

Seeing a single tank drive around alone makes me sad.
Groups makes me happy.

I think that since maps have shorter supply lines and SD is probably going to have more units for the same width we will see around the same number of units per map, but more of them in the frontline.

So many ideas... and hopes... soooo many wishes

I just hope that we get some new info TODAY about this! I am in between:

More Units... sometimes allows for more variation in attack/defense and also increases the intensity

Less Units... sometimes, less is more. I love the beginning game of MoW and CoH... I feel like every movement counts, and that I can focus on the few units I have on the field... and do not need to baby sit the hords of others.

Both would be satisfying.... but PLEASE give us a BONE today :)

Scale needs to be RD or larger. Anything less and there is hardly going to be a point to the game. The card system might be enough to differentiate it from COH2, but seeing supported battalion attacks is going to be the thing. Artillery smoke, walking barrages, overwatch AT artillery. The infantry aren't going to delete the tanks they find like RD, so it will require coordination. I've always thought WWII was a stupid idea, I would like them to prove me wrong.
