Along with the Merchant Princes proposal, i'm looking at if any OTers would be interested in an EURPG set in the year 1700. Feel free to look at our sub-forum here; it's a little empty right now because of sorting out the direction of our next iteration.
Russia is on the cusp of entering the European political system, Sweden is the height of its status as the Lion of the North, this is Poland-Lithuania's best shot to climb the path of political recovery, Denmark still has gas in the tank to get revenge on Sweden for the past century of humiliation, and Prussia and Austria are coming into their own, while it's not too late for the Ottomans to prevent their century of decay.
That's a lot of RP potential in a traditionally underplayed area in these games.
Meanwhile Western Europe is exhausted. The Nine Years' War has left France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Spain weakened. Only Portugal has escaped the chaos. None of the traditional hegemonic powers of Europe at this time--France and Spain--are in a position to dominate a game single-handedly due to a century of constant warfare. Which makes sense since the 18th century will be dominated by the development of the Balance of Power concept.
Priority roles that need to be filled are main players for Sweden, Russia, Poland-Lithuania/Saxony, Austria, Prussia, and the Ottomans. If there's enough interest we can open up subsidiary roles for generals and other commanders to be controlled by players as this is the era of International Nobility.
Please feel free to comment here or in our EURPG sub-forum and here's hoping we have enough interest to run this game and the Merchant Princes proposal concurrently!
