The registered owner is Arne Meyer Vedo-Hansen, although that may be the name of the nominee for the registrar. I'm not super familiar with Norwegian domain / hosting companies...

Eirik at support@domainnameshop.com confirmed that Arne Meyer Vedo-Hansen (of Norway) is the registered owner of Paradoxian.org.

His name is Arne Meyer Vedø-Hansen and lives in Oslo or Oslo adjacent, do we perhaps have any Norwegian here that could find out his address and perhaps send him a letter to establish contact with him?

I had a friend write to him on Facebook today, but it's unsure if he checks his message requests, many seldom do.

If he is not open to diplomacy, we may have to send a diplomat to fabricate a claim on the domain name...

Well, it's in "expired" status right now, will drop soon enough unless he pays the reg fees. Anyone have a dropcatch account?

Differen web hosts have different rules I guess, I know a while ago I wanted to take a page hosting over from someone who died, but would have to wait 12 months from the day it expired.

I think if Paradox continues to sell the games which are on the Paradoxian wikis, they should consider supporting the wikis.

Meanwhile, one could use the internet wayback machine...

(Now look what you did, getting me to re-activate my old forum acount :D )

Huh, here I was thinking that these old things were outdated and had slipped into the oblivions of history when in fact there is still interest and use for these wikis. Color me pleasantly surprised :)

paradoxian.org has indeed been scheduled for de-activation, but it's by no means a permanent thing. However, rather than just rebooting them, I'd like to see what options there are.

  • Restart them as is (will cost some money, but not more than can be covered). One of the reasons I figured it best to de-activate the wikis was that the software is outdated, and re-activation needs to be followed by a good round of upgrades and suchlike.
  • Migrate the wikis to the official Paradox wiki platform. This is perhaps the preferrable thing, but I don't know if this is something Paradox wants? Anyone know anyone who knows wnything about any of this? If this is possible, I'd be happy to provide both database dumps and filestores for the migration :)
  • Other options?

Hope that Paradox will step up and move it to their wiki! That would be great.

If not of course I'll chip in to help cover the costs for the site.

Perhaps @Meneth should be involved in this discussion

OriginalRafiki, nice to see you back, we spoke earlier via the ticket system ;).
We will happily host it on the official Paradox Wiki and we are moving forward with the necessary steps. Meneth is the mastermind behind the Wiki and the definitive go-to guy for all the questions you may have. I'll get the ball rolling on the backend things that's needed from our end :).

Well met, TinyWiking, and once again many thanks for your excellent help in my efforts to regain access to my account :)

I'm very happy to hear that the wikis will get a proper home again. Given everything, I think this is The Best Solution(tm) and one that ensures that the wikis and the contents of them remain available to the community in the foreseeable future. Quite a few people have put quite a few hours into assembling the various bits and pieces therein, and it would've been a shame if that had dwindled away

If there's a lesson to be learned here it's that Facebook stalking pays off.
