Kapitan zur See Stuckenschmidt has discovered a new system, Delta Pavonis, near the Hippie system. This new star system also contains an alien wreck and a class-2 Nitrogen / Oxygen world. Deja vu...

Stuki bravely heads inward, to examine the wreck and the planet.

EDIT: As he approached the innermost planet of Delta Pavonis, Stuki detected some sort of Hippie installation on the surface... possibly a Deep Space Tracking Network. He immediately reversed course and headed back towards the exit jump point. Will he get away?

EDIT: :( No, he didn't get away. Another salvo of Strength-17 missiles destroys the SMR Planck and kills Stucki. Definitely the Hippies, then. They shall pay for their crimes against Humanity!

RIP Stuckie...

I'll tell you all about the welcome party the Hippies threw me when I get over my hangover...Damn they know how to brew awesome shit...And those female aliens...I don't know how to describe that... 'free love'...?

The von Mollendorf family has a long tradition of serving the Fatherland and vows to avenge this vile murder, no matter the cost.

Bloody Hippies :/
Chronoglically speaking, we're nearly at the point where some German official should state that if they want total war, they will get total war.

BTW, is it definitely "communication impossible", or is it because we haven't a team working on it right now? I was under the impression that only Invaders, Swarm and Precursors' robots were totally impervious to communication.

Seem to. There is such a thing as "dormant" jump points, which are only visible from one end. So it's possible that a back-door exists into one of those three systems, or even into Sol itself.
I'd bet one of these 3 will have such a dormant jump points somewhere.
That's still way better than finding an existing jump gate built by some ancient alien civilization ;)

Oh well, I hadn't yet spotted the news about the alien freeway. And it goes through Luyten 726-8, one jump from Earth. Ooops.

I rather suspect that Hippies = Precursors, and the game just selected a random portrait to represent them.

EDIT: Our original 7 research labs have been increased to a total of 47, with a corresponding increase in our research speed.

We have completed theoretical research on the third level of engine tech, Ion Drive, and our technicians are now working on practical applications. We should have functional missiles within a few years, and can then start designing primitive warships.

EDIT: The 'freeway' to spinward of Earth is even more extensive than we had thought... it now stretches over nine systems, and shows no sign of ending. Unless the game set-up code has been changed recently, it almost has to be an artifact rather than a random scattering of gates.

Yeah, considering they seem quite advanced, have strength-17 nukes that fly quite fast, have fast ships and big sensors, that's likely. Bad news for now.
Good news in the long run, because it means the wreck and the nice 3 planets (with probable ruined alien outposts) will be uncontested by any existing alien civ and ripe for the taking.

Makes me wonder if the jump gates are supposed to be Precursor stuff as well. Well, you'll see if you spot any on one of these systems. At the very least, such a big feature implies there must be some nice ruins to explore there around - and not just one outpost out of 9 systems. Good news is that if it's just an abandoned outpost, that very advanced alien civ isn't around anymore to trouble us.

Bad news, of course, is that whatever made it "no longer be around" may itself still be around once we activate the Invaders. :p

Captain's Personal Log: Kapitan zur See Culise

The ansible report on the status of the SMR Planck arrived today from Earth. The crew's mood is muted, especially coming on the tails of the fate of the SMR Mach, but it is more bleak than mutinous. Still, in spite of their now-acute awareness that we are all separated from a potential fiery death by nothing more than a thin, defenseless duranium shell, I believe the crew shall continue to perform in any crisis. It is difficult to say what we expect to do should we encounter hostile forces here in the frontier, but we have begun contingency planning to ensure that all data will be sent back over ansible in the event of a hostile contact event, as well as opening direct discussion with the crew regarding the matter of the Planck and Mach. I will not lie to my crew, but I will also make it plain that we have seen no sign of Hippie contacts along our exploration route so far, and it is not immediately clear that we will encounter such. Though I cannot say so directly, so I must hope.

Our tech has finally reached the point where we can design a decent Anti-Ship Missile. We will need at least one more tech level before our Anti-Missile Missiles are effective, however.

Perhaps a half-decent Fighter can now be designed?

There are three new scout ships building to replace the two we lost.

For anyone who wants a position, three (soon to be six) scouts are up for grabs, as are twenty freighters, three colony ships, two radar bases (and soon some missile bases), several scientists, fuel refineries, xenologists, geologists, administrators of various rocks and comets, a tug...

SMR Einstein under Kommodore Hyme has discovered a jump point to 107 Piscium... a star system containing several habitable planets including one intermediate in habitability between Earth and Mars. The prize of the system, however, is a gas giant with no less than FIVE Mars-like moons.

This can be turned into a great concourse of worlds... assuming that the system is not already inhabited.

Hyme cautiously heads inward...

While moving in toward the concourse of habitable worlds, Hyme has been intercepted by alien ships... but they are NOT the Hippies!

A new alien race! I will call them "The Bugs". They have closed to 5 million km, nearly point-blank range for missiles (though still beyond Laser range) without opening fire or even turning on an active sensor (as far as I can detect).

Hyme has prudently kept his own active sensor off, to avoid alarming them. He continues to withdraw toward the jump point.

EDIT: They have flipped on an active sensor (175 million km range) and closed in to literally point-blank range... only a few km away. This is FAR closer than they need to be to shoot at Hyme with any conceivable weapon, so it seems that they do not intend to open fire immediately.

Can he reach the jump point out before they change their minds?

EDIT: The seven alien ships have been flying in formation with Hyme (close enough that he can see them out the window) and matching his speed for more than a day, now. They appear to be escorting him toward the jump point out of the system.

Let's hope they maintain this attitude of distant cordiality...

Three additional classes of Bug ships (totaling 77 ships) have joined the procession, all of them flying in lock-step formation with Hyme toward the exit jump point.

The classes are:

Acalte x 7 (Thermal 1200)
Tomate x 39 (Thermal 90)
Guajolote x 19 (Thermal 90)
Zoqueto x 12 (Thermal 90)

I still haven't flipped on our active sensor to learn their displacement... I might do that just before jumping out.

EDIT: Twelve days en route to the jump point, and the Bugs are still holding their fire... so far...

That's another 102 ships, for a running total of 179. Crikey!

I've never even heard of this game before, so I'm following with great interest!

Could the gathering of such a large fleet of alien ships in formation around your exploration vessel be an indication they plan to follow it all the way back to Earth?

Hyme has arrived at the jump point, after a grueling 34-day flight under alien escort. He then prepared his ship to jump, flipped on his active sensor, and jumped out five seconds later.

His science officer recorded the following readings:
