I've been seeing Byzantium collapse quite often with CK2Plus and that got me thinking. Rather than existing only after the Fourth Crusade, there should be an option to form the Latin Empire if Byzantium collapses or if a non-Christian takes Constantinople and a Crusade takes it back. My thinking goes that if the ERE falls, the Pope would want to a) shore up Christianity in the east and b) have an edge over Orthodoxy. So I was thinking about possible making a sub-mod including the following:
  • Formable Latin Empire: Must (be non-Greek?) control Constantinople, be Catholic, and have appropriate prestige and piety. In addition the Byzantine Empire must have collapsed and lingering around.
  • When formed the Byzantium title is destroyed but any independent greek orthodox ruler can restore the Empire with requirements.
  • After a period of time another decision can be made to create de-jure lands for the Latin Empire.
I am not sure about how the CB could be acquired. Perhaps the Pope can call for it or a powerful Catholic king can do it himself.

Thoughts? criticism? This may be my first so any tips or advice would also be appreciated.

Should it be limited to only Catholic? How about if the schism never happens and there is a Pathriarch Supreme for Chalcedon?

The ability to create the Latin Empire title is in vanilla and it's pretty much as you said already.

The vanilla Latin Empire creation requirements are as follows:
*Catholic religion or Catholic heresy.
*Neither Byzantine Empire nor Roman Empire exists.
*Control Kaliopolis and Thrake.

I'm surprised if this wasn't already in CK+ but it's been a while since I played.

Huh okay. The main issue with this though is that the title is given back to the last emperor within a few weeks which makes it hard with my idea. I think I may redo this idea as a better way to deal with a Byzantine collapse.
