That's just stupid reasoning. Even if he was a brutal wolf then why self sacrifice?
No the rational explanation is that it's an attempt at making people unvote him. And if that fails then he can come in and do a difference of two votes to his main contender, instead of just a difference of one in case of not voting himself.

Lynching aedan is always a good idea, because that way if he's a wolf he can't lead us astray. If he's not a wolf, then we know he's not a wolf and thus we don't have to worry about it.
As I recall, 'litz had an excellent opportunity to tie aedan recently, but did not.
