Playing vs a pair of the new Luftwaffe, and the 88' spam was SO bad that a p47 was insta gibbed, eg AS SOON AS IT FLEW INTO RANGE OF 88's just insta died.

Not fair, not balanced, not fun

And before some idiot comes in and says "why don't you use artillery" we did
My ally and I were running out of artillery shells we were firing so much

Simply creeped up infantry with 88's in the back.
Broken.. ass...battlegroup

Running out of ammo is common for Artillery, they usually only have like 25~ ammunition and they shoot in volleys of 10 or so and are usually very inaccurate unless you fire a lot. What caliber guns were they btw? Its very hard to kill with 60mm guns in my experience so you should see if you were running 105+ or whatev.

You can also try to mount a push to break through and just ignore them as the 16.lw Infantry are about as resilient as ginger bread men. I've seen their full 10 strength disheartened troops lose to 1 and 2 strength Royal Marines. Sending in Storm Troopers or Ranger Assaults against them is just overkill.

Take advantage of the 16.lw's faults!

And yeah, try not to send aircraft against 2 veterancy AA. That's asking for them to be murdered.

Flak 88 is basically a very slow Tiger tank, without armor. Smoke them so you can get close with whatever you want and then destroy them. I don't know why people complain about balance issue here.

In some situations it's far better than tiger tank, coz 88 can stay alive after a few hits from tank guns.

True, non armored target cannot be one-shot, but unlike the Tiger, it can be destroyed by any unit but an AT gun. The problem is : how do i get close to this 1200m range death mill so i can destroy it with my .50cal ? The answer is Smoke... or arty pounding.

I don't think the Flak 88s high explosive should be able to target ground units, really.

This would leave them vulnerable to infantry attack and require dedicated troops to be deployed to defend them, tying up resources and leaving the player to decide if he wants to make that tradeoff.

Of course this is only necessary due to the playerbases seemingly terminal inability to use smoke rounds.

Most players have a big issue with using smoke, although it is so useful and easy.

But guys, smoke rounds don't kill things!
How can you expect anyone to use them?

Edit: Apparently this needs a "/s" at the end...

No wonder you are struggling against 16 LW when you are playing like that. Artillery is for stunning in this game. You have to stun the FlaK 88s and then take them out with direct fire units. You can also use the M4(105)/Cromwell VI to fire manually ~50m infront of the FlaK 88 from max range to stun it that way.

As i posted already, smoke the gun, push forward and kill it at close range. The gun is too slow to escape from the smog before your halftrack/inf/tank can destroy it.

So, if that P47 hadn't faced any AA, and insta-killed a ground target...would that be an imbalance?
Considering its 200+ points, yeah. Nothing in that price range gets insta gibbed, not counting poor unit use (eg backing a Panther/King into battle), An equivalent was if the US had an AT plane that could just strafe and kill a KT from the front. It would be OP.

I think id be fine if 88's were reverted back to just being suppression on aircraft instead of downright snipers. No other unit single handedly kills 200+ pt units with little to no effort, while still being deadly to other categories of targets.

Personally, I think that all battlegroups should have 88 availability looked at.
