CK2 Dev Diary #75 - Enter the Dragon

Hi everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great weekend!

The countdown has started and Jade Dragon will soon be available for download; this Thursday in fact!

By now, I think we’ve covered most aspects of the expansion pretty thoroughly, so I think I'm just going to post this beautiful new loading screen:

Take care folks, and if you want one last sneak peak of the expansion before Thursday, make sure to tune in to the CK2 livestreams today, starting at 16:00 CET! Servancour will do a special quick run-through of the new features!

Hopefully it'll be anything but Europe. After all the whinging about omg more map expansions Paradox abandon Europe, I hope they never release a crusades or Euro DLC again.

Muslims actually got more unique content out of Monks and Mystics than European Christians, though.
I'm inclined to disagree, but eh, I guess it depends on whether you consider one Assassin's society to be "more unique content" than four or five monastic orders.
It was "kinda" meant for everyone.
"Kinda".

Can't wait for Thursday. Very much looking forward to getting stomped by China.

As for the next DLC, cadet branches? Please?

The next expansion will cover something a lot of people have asked for.

Personally hoping for a re-release/update of Hellenic+Roman Culture group(Would work real well to add with the new Societes[Cult of Mithras when?]). PAX ROMANUS! Would also love expanded content for Judaism and a harder to conquer Africa. But most of all SABATON MUSIC PACK FOR CK2 BOOOOOOOYS!!

If they did do a new start date, Justinian is, at least in my opinion, highly unlikely. If you thought Charlemagne was a mess (albeit a lovable mess), Justinian would be far worse. There isn't even a semblence of Feudalism, and implementing the rise of Islam would be problematic at best.

If we do go back, the earliest viable date is probably the end of the First Fitna, (around 661) which would cover the rise of the Ummayad Empire. The Avars would be at the height of their power, the Lombards would still be Arians, the Byzantines control much of Italy and Africa, and the Visigoths in Spain would be playable as well. However, there would be some issues with this, notably in terms of balance and historicity, but if it could be done, it would be tremendous fun.

More likely would be a start date would be somewhere between Charlemagne and The Old Gods, or between The Old Gods and Stamford Bridge. Two possible candidates would be either Otto the Great ( c. 950) or the Iranian Intermezzo, (c. 934). Technically the Iranian Intermezzo stretched from around 820 - 1055, but a start of around 934 would be most interesting, with the Zoroastrian Ziyarid Dynasty at its height.

Personally, I'd be very happy for any of these three start dates. :D

Looking forward to hearing more about the future DLC, and to get the 2.8 and Jade Dragon DLC released on Thursday! :)

My personal preference for a future map update is certainly a rework of Africa, but when it comes to DLCs there are many interesting possibilities which are frequently requested, from monasteries and crusades to cadet branches, inland republics and the late game.

I love these ideas! <3

Sabaton don't do medieval stuff though. Nearly everything pre-modern is mindless Sweden-Worship.

DLC isn't even out yet, and everybody's already getting excited trying to figure out what the next one's going to be...

Which I'd assume is a compliment to Paradox, when you think about it.

The Treaty of Verdun in 843 would be a good start date. The three Francia's offer an alternative experience. In Britain, Scotland is unified by King Kenneth I after subjugating the Picts. Iconoclasm ends in the Byzantine Empire under Empress Theodora II.

The year 911 has Rollo being granted the County of Rouen in Normandy and the last Carolingian ruler dying (Louis the Child). In Britain, Alfred the Great's oldest daughter Aethelflaed takes over Mercia after her husband dies while her brother Edward the Elder rules over the Anglo-Saxons.

Maybe, just maybe it might be interesting to have a 711 or 732 start date where you can take over the Umayyad Invasion of Gaul and slowly turn Europe Islamic.
