CK2 Dev Diary #75 - Enter the Dragon

Hi everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great weekend!

The countdown has started and Jade Dragon will soon be available for download; this Thursday in fact!

By now, I think we’ve covered most aspects of the expansion pretty thoroughly, so I think I'm just going to post this beautiful new loading screen:

Take care folks, and if you want one last sneak peak of the expansion before Thursday, make sure to tune in to the CK2 livestreams today, starting at 16:00 CET! Servancour will do a special quick run-through of the new features!

Cheers for the DD Doomdark, and to all the team for their work on the expansion, looking forward to giving it a play :D. Also great to hear there's at least one more DLC in the works :).

The next expansion will cover something a lot of people have asked for.
I am suspecting an update to the Crusade mechanics. That would be a good final note to end Crusader Kings 2 on. I find it somewhat unrealistic that I spend gold and treasure to liberate the Holy Lands, and because Duke so and so of wherever put in one extra percent effort into the crusade; he gets the lot and I get nothing. Unfair!

Or it could be dealing with the one lord under multiple rulers; that way you could have a Duke under the King of France and a Duke under the King of Jerusalem as well.

I don't care naval combat, so that's fine with me, I would greatly prefer cadet dynasties and a better dynamic inside dynasties, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out they found a way to do naval combat.

How is it impossible to have naval combat in CK2 but we have it in EU4, HOI4 and Vic2 and they all share the same engine?

The AI has issues understanding naval attrition in those games IIRC. I would love to see naval combat in CK2, but it could be a significant departure, gameplay-wise.

Please let it be an expansion of existing features! War or Intrigue expansions with redo of vanilla portraits. Arabs need non caricature faces! I'll probably hold out on SoI at least until that is so.

New playable start date or two, in the 900s and/or early 1000s. Around Aethelred the Unready/Sweyn Forkbeard and/or Canute the Great. I am sure there equally interesting setups elsewhere around that time.

900s starting date has been requested frequently.
Rise of Islam/Fall of Rome/Justinian start dates would be nice too...

Rajas of India - Brilliant DLC that adds a lot of new fun characters, cultures and titles, and one of the most extensive free patches of all
Charlemagne - Large retinues are out of place anyway, don't care for them much. 769 is a bit of a wonky start though.
Way of Life - More excellent role-playing fun. Never noticed excessive seduction.
Horse Lords - One of the best DLCs since ToG until Conclave nerfed a lot of things. Made migration campaigns really doable.
Conclave - Lots of good additions to internal politics that I really enjoy. Only problem is lack of difficulty IMO.
The Reapers's Due - Definitely one of the best 'flavour' DLCs.
M&M - Not really played it.
Jade Dragon - Nobody knows how good it is yet. Looking forward to the middle east rework though.
About that 769 start... I cannot say how many times I have seen west francia with an independent middle francia having some random provinces in the middle of the Franks.
Add the mod Fitna Fracture to it... India is the home of civil wars, I cannot say how many times I get popups like ths:

(Imagine it is talking about a king in India)

more than anything I want a DLC focused on the HRE and Byzantium. In that you could do imperial mechanics, inland republics, succession mechanics, and diplomacy!
