Night 1
Night 1
Our story starts in 1868 when the Århus Fredericia railway openened. In the same year Hans Broge founded the Jutlandic English Steamboat Company for the considerable trade with England. After 1864 the main trade partner had shifted from the German lands to England. Things didn't continue well for Hans Broge though since in 1874 the railway reached Esbjerg and while the port only finished in 1878, it already commenced operation unofficially from 1874. There now was a port on the West Jutlandic Coast and this was a problem for Broge's steamboat company whihc was based in Århus.
Hence already in 1872, 4 months before te contract for the Esbjerg railway was signed, a non Hads resident (likely Broge or an affiliate) had written an article arguing for a railway directly from Århus to Odder and then onwards to Hovedgård.
Then in 1874 things started moving again when a group of burghers from Odder declared that they didn't want a railway to Århus nor to Horsens, but one to Hovedgård. This was because they didn't want any comparition ruining their local trade monopoly. They didn't have any prominent spokesman and hence constantly were outmaneouvered by Hans Broge, but they did have Shire Bailif, Justice Counceler Rehling, but he remained in the shadows without any clear opinion while in reality supporting Broge...
Torn the villager was hunted.
