Awesome to see some more votes coming in! :) The spreadsheet is beginning to fill out nicely.

A couple of bits of business:

@Asantahene - You have two works listed that started in 2018: Crescent, Cross, and Eagle: The Struggle for Al-Andalus by Orctavius and The King Once and Future - A Tale of Arthur AAR by LudoOttavio and one of your newcomer votes also is outside the period of eligibility (RobertSparkles joined the forum on Feb 21, 2018.) (I should note that your vote for Ludo in the newcomer category is perfectly valid as his first AAR did indeed fall within the period of eligibility.)

@Bullfilter - You've got one work that began in 2018: Polish Victory, Polish Defeat - an AAR by marxiantj

@roverS3 - You also have two works listed that started in 2018: the aforementioned Polish Victory, Polish Defeat - an AAR by marxiantj and Der Adler, der Wolf, und die Sonne: Die Geschichte des Stahlpakts by Wraith11B (also listed under WritAAR and AAR of the Year.)

If you have others you may wish to include instead, please feel free to do so. I will not be able to count a vote for the above as they are outside the period of eligibility (remember, Dec 2016 though Nov 2017.) However, next year's awards certainly beckon! :D

And @stnylan - did you have specific works in mind for your Graphics/AARtist vote? I don't suppose it matters greatly as the category could simply be for just a person and their many works just as much as one. However, if you did, I would like to make sure the work is given full credit.

Finally, I wonder if I could ask a favor from everyone that is planning to or may edit their votes. Would it be possible for you to make note at the bottom of your ballot for the reason to edit? I am checking in daily and while I am pretty sure I know when some have been added or changed, it would help me greatly to update the spreadsheet accordingly. Rest assured, prior to the final tabulation, I will go through and double check each vote to make certain that I have it down correctly. No worries if not, but it may help me to know what has changed. Thank you in advance and keep up that voting! Some exciting races now that we have some good numbers coming in. :)

Thanks coz1 - thought I’d checked them all but missed that one. I will revise and make any changes obvious for bookkeeping purposes.:)

Gosh. How did that happen? I will adjust and let you know:eek:

For my part my AARtist/Graphics votes don't have a specific AAR in mind, more the body of work.

I haven't read many AARs, but there were a few that stuck with me and I felt were worthy of an additional vote:

Comedy AAR of the Year:
Meh, I Can Take 'Em - Hohenzollern HIP DisastAAR by @Crushric

Historybook AAR of the Year:
L’empereur est mort: A French AAR by @RossN

Narrative AAR of the Year:
The Thoughts of a (Hive) Mind by @lifehole

- AAR of the Year
The Thoughts of a (Hive) Mind by @lifehole (This one really blew me away - I hadn't really expected much from Stellaris AARs but gave it a look, and the uniquness and entertainment of this AAR was really great. Unfortunately the game was corrupted before he could finish it, but it was still great for its duration)

Excellent to see some more votes! This thing is really filling out. :) And many thanks for your help in keeping the accounting easier to me. It is very much appreciated. For my part, I am really enjoying seeing the AARs listed, many of which I know but so many that are new to me. I truly hope that when we are done with this exercise that some few others might venture out to those suggested and perhaps pick up a new work. :D

I thought I might also take this moment to call out to a few of our favorite fans that have yet to jump in - @markkur , @Eurasia , @El Pip , @guillec87 , @volksmarschall , @JabberJock14, @Kurt_Steiner - most of you have been named above and if not, you are Superfans! That is just to name a few. Those already within the thread may help and call out some others to perhaps join the vote. I just picked some members that have won Fan of the Week within the past year assuming they may still have some discerning taste. As has been said - the more, the merrier. :)

(And yes, those of you with place markers still - get them in. ;) )

We are starting to see some trends develop, but every vote will count in the end. It is rather exciting for me to see the vote tallies change as I add them up. It simply proves what a wealth of talent and eagerness exists within AARland these days (and not just within CKII!) Please keep it up and get those votes in. I think the full results will astonish you. :D

I am working on my very lackluster contribution.;) But I could have said so...eh.

At-all; doing this bit is important to me because it will be my swansong out of general AARland. As I've said before, I am enduring a forced retirement from the public forums (I've already departed from two others, but this was therapy:cool:) and I now need to tame my dragon for family-writings. So, I am trying to make what I submit, the most meaningful I can and then will end by finishing my little kiwi business.:)

But the rest of you have no excuses.<LOL> just-kidding

Make it Great!

My readership is CK2 narrative stories, so my votes will be for those categories. Despite a specific subset, it was actually tough to narrow down my votes. But here are my best efforts.

Historybook AAR of the Year:

1. Road of Queens by @Eurasia

I couldn't decide if Road of Queens is Historybook or Comedy... I mean... Viking pugs!, but I went with historybook since there are footnotes

- Narrative AAR of the Year:

1. The Rightful King by @coz1

2. The Bold Prince by coz1

3. Wolves of Westseaxna by @Asantahene

4. Whiteshirts of England: A History of the Hvitserk Dynasty by @tpmcinty

5. Res Gestae Gentis Lartiae by @LudoOttavio

6. The White Hart by @jasondroth24

A tough category! I debated trying to put the Rightful King and Bold Prince together, but since they are different threads, and others have listed them separate, I did as well. Went with the Rightful King over the Bold Prince since it got me into AAR writing!

- Character of the Year:

1. Prince Eadward (Rightful King and Bold Prince)

2. Queen Wulfryth (Wolves of Westseaxna)

3. King Knut (Whiteshirts of England)

4. Cosma (the Little Dux)

5. King Bohemund (The White Hart)

6. The Despot Andronikos (Road of Queens - ironically, a king)

Quite a few get left out here, sadly.

- Newcomer of the Year:

1. tpmcinty

2. LudoOttavio

3. jasondroth24

- Writer of the Year:

1. coz1

2. Asantahene

3. tpmcinty

4. Eurasia

5. LudoOttavio

6. @TheButterflyComposer

- AAR of the Year

1. The Rightful King

2. The Bold Prince

3. Wolves of Westseaxna

4. Whiteshirts of England: A History of the Hvitserk Dynasty

5. Road of Queens

6. Res Gestae Gentis Lartiae

I've had this difficulty with a number of AARs. I am honestly not sure what the best approach to the situation is though, other than personal impression. I mean, ultimately what else can we do?

A fine point and I would suggest that the best approach is to use first impressions. If it reads like a history book, then it counts for that. Those wishing to be comedic will also announce that early either by the author or the work. It was questioned earlier if one could be nominated for more than one category, and I remain as I was - if the work fits in both, then sure. That said, it is usually fairly clear which direction the author wants to take us. This may also suggest one more time why comedy is a fickle business and a difficult category to nail down. That happy mask is much harder than is the tragic one. ;)

- Comedy AAR of the Year:
1. Inevitable Defeat - Slovakia '44 by El Pip... which has got to be tied with Butterfly Effect for longest running AAR.
2. Talking Turkey by Bullfilter

- Gameplay AAR of the Year:
1. France, A Quick and Dirty HoI3 AAR, by Bullfilter

- Historybook AAR of the Year:
1. The Butterfly Effect, by El Pip

- Narrative AAR of the Year:
1. "Odin" and Stalin's Secret Committee, by @roverS3

- Let's Play/Video AAR of the Year:
1. Last Greatest German Game, by @Gamer_1745

- Character of the Year:
1. Tiso and Tuka, and the Cast of Inevitable Defeat (So long as they aren't Czech, *spits*) [NOTE: IC joke, no offense to the Czechs. Seriously! Prague is one of my favorite cities] from El Pip
2. The Little Old Ladies from Talking Turkey, by Bullfilter

- Writer of the Year:
1. El Pip
2. Bullfilter
3. roverS3

Unfortunately, I don't get into the other AARealms because of constraints on time... and much of it is dominated by trying to either keep up with my own or the few other AARs I follow.

-but I'm deeply moved by your consideration, @roverS3, to be nominated in three categories (looks like History AAR, WritAAR and AAR of the Year)!

Your AAR has been up there with the best of them from the very first update. I'll keep you in mind for the 2018 year-end awaards... as your AAR was started after the set time limit for these ones...
Keep up the good work...;)

Can I just say--I hadn't seen this until just now, and so I'll be casting about for my own rapid entry--but I'm deeply moved by your consideration, @roverS3, to be nominated in three categories (looks like History AAR, WritAAR and AAR of the Year)!

Whew. Super honored... okay, grabbing my own list!
I believe that you were also nominated by @AtlanticFriend before the work was found to be outside of the period for consideration. Look to December (hopefully) when we hold these again for the 2018 AARs. :)

Also, great to have your vote! We have exactly two weeks left for anyone else to cast their own and some tight races remain. Those with place-holders, get them in there. Anyone wishing to add to their vote, do so now. If some have seen the thread and had a desire to vote, now is the time to do it. And please feel free to advertise in your own threads so others might see this. The voting numbers look solid, but they can be even better the more we get. :D

P.S. - Thank you to all that have found need to edit their vote for letting me know when and why. I really do appreciate it. It's a huge help!

And while doing some further accounting, I note this one vote from you @Asantahene - For Character: "Duchess Wulfrun in @coz1' 3rd instalment of his Wessexian trilogy The Heavy Crown [Book the Third on the House of Wessex]"

Proud as I am to see it, anything from Heavy Crown is ineligible as it began in February of this year. However, the Duchess herself does remain eligible as she has spanned the previous year's work. I don't know that it matters which one you put her to so long as it is Rightful King or Bold Prince (if you should remain wishing to cast your vote for her.) I will count her for now (and she thanks you) but sadly a choice must be made. :) It's truly mine own fault for splitting the work out as I did and not making it clear at the outset how it might be voted upon.

Amended!

Well, let's do this. I am not a great AAR reader, unfortunately (well, more like I am terrible at picking the AARs to follow and most of them die after a few posts).

- Historybook AAR of the Year:
1. The First Century: a United Nation Stellaris AAR by @cookfl (Stellaris) [N.B. I put this here but it could also go in narrative, I am not sure]

1. The Songs of Sheeran by @EmpireofOne (CK2)
2. Blut und Schlacht (Blood and Battle): A Learner’s Saga by @Bullfilter (CK2)
3. Valyrian Steel: A Game of Thrones Mod AAR by @Henry v. Keiper (CK2)

- Character of the Year:
1. Dale Sheeran from The Songs of Sheeran
2. Rurik Rurikid from Blut und Schlact
3. Rhaekar Valzyrien from Valyrian Steel

- Writer of the Year:
1. EmpireofOne
2. cookfl

4. Henry v. Keiper
