Greetings!

Once again we will scour the tomes in our cartographer’s office! In the last DD we visited the Baltics, in this one we’re heading further up north – to the land of the Finns, a land of a thousand lakes and bear-gods.

As for Finland, the main reason for us doing a map update was the poor definition in the area. Anyone who has moved armies in the region knows that the pathing, at the best of times, can be quite strange – with armies often taking massive detours to reach their destination. The main contributing factor to this was the massive size of the provinces, and that they were connected to each other in illogical ways. As you can see, almost all provinces in the area have been cut up rather significantly (its rather subtle, but what constitutes ‘Pohjanmaa’ in the new image is actually three Counties). The average power of the area has not gone up significantly though, with most Counties containing at most two holdings (some even contain only one). What has gone up though is the enjoyment while playing in the area!

Code:
- Map Update to Finland
    - 8 new provinces in Finland, improving mobility and spread noticeably in the area
    - 2 new duchies in Finland (Ostrobothnia and Savonia)
    - 1 new province in Lapland, in the duchy of Kola

Please note that the time between Dev Diaries will be irregular, as we’re very early in the development cycle.

The border was... well, formally north of Neva, but so close to it the distinction would be unnoticeable on the map. So Petersburg's area's current location is mostly covered by Ingria (even though not the founding point of the city itself - but since the city is founded in 1703 that shouldn't matter much).
My point is really to get the Novgorod-Sweden border right. I'm not too worried about founding Peterburg earlier than history. I get your point, really, I do. I'm always a little bothered though when I see the map. I'll just learn to mod and get the border right (or I'll just wait for someone to do instead of me, like I'm usually wont to do).

Just changing borders is actually a pretty simple job, it'd just take you a couple of minutes with Photoshop to get it how you want it.

Always assume there won't be a dev diary.
Until they confirm they're back with regular ones.

EDIT:
Also, don't give devs a cause to troll you. They like to toy with our emotions.

You know every three weeks is actually regular.

I thought it was 3 weeks since this one but counted wrong. My bad.

On a funnier note, I'm used to checking at the same time everyday for a diary a day for a different game.

What I say is actually... Well, you see, Novgorod colonized Karjala gradually but its initial border was more or less by Neva, as now is Ingria/Karjala's.

Neva is in the wrong position, it should be moved further south. And could the 1323 borders Be implemented to Vyborg and rest of Novgorod--Sweden border.
Erm... compared to most rivers of that region, it's not mispositioned. What you speak of is about a few kms (and I do know what I'm speaking of, I live in St. Petersburg), that's no problem.

I know it's a minor problem, but I thought to point it out anyway.

Currently the river is a straight line while it should be a curve going through the narrowest point on the isthmus.

Plot twist: dev diary presents a buncha straw men and red herring arguments in dev diaries form to setup players for an east asia dlc

As much as I would personally enjoy it (with a few caveats regarding accuracy and performance), Jade Dragon rather firmly put the final nail in that particular coffin.

I just realized, there won't be a dev diary next week. It's the damn Easter.
