I'd imagine the overthrow weakened the Arano name so much that the members of the alliance had less respect than before, giving the Arano's less influence, meaning the individual worlds wound up becoming more independent, drifting into autonomy by default, making the Coalition pretty much insignificant.

This actually sets up an interesting scenario. At some point in the future Kamea is faced with growing discontent and secession by Aurigan Coalition worlds. But she backs up her early speech about not fighting for her birthright, but for freedom, by choosing to accept the dissolution of the Coalition rather than inflict another civil war on a population that no longer wants her leadership.

Lack of an heir is rarely an issue for these Houses as there are often other cadet lines in the family tree if all you really want is a drop of the right blood for "legitimacy". I also find it hard to see the state dissolving purely from lack of heir as in those cases. Historically what often happened in such hereditary monarchical systems was another noble house ended up becoming the ruling house.

that's what would be expected yes, however the cadet branch was VERY likely the Esprosias, whom even if elements of the family survived the war, obviously aren't likely to be trusted with power again ever. this could mean sucession disputes (Battletech has had nasty sucession disputes in far cleaner cases of sucession then this would be) which could end to it dissolving as each of the founding houses declares they and only they have a right to the title of "high lord" or "high lady"

In fact as I laid out this scenerio it occurs to me this has a pretty major precident in Battletech :)

The end of the game leave it open if the Aurigan Coalition will survive and thrive or shrivel and be absorbed by nearby states or dissolve. There is even talk of political marriages, so a possible annexation in a later period.
@Calantyr
Farah speak of going to the Deep periphery, the infobox on that cite the Hanseatic league and the Chained Isles stated, something that I haven't never heard off (but I haven't followed the lore published in the more recent years). So there is a lot of space for further expansions that way. The company only need to get a Jumpship. In the mechwarrior rules a scout jumpship don't cost too much. Only a kidney or two ;)

The Chainelaine Isles have been around since at least the 2nd Edition Periphery book back in the 90s. The Hanseatic League might be a bit more recent though I cant recall
