That'll work!

Though I was thinking last night, and I'm not sure I understand the objection to being a Republic. Being a Republic means that sovereignty is in the people (as opposed to an Emperor). Was there some other aspect you were objecting to?
Well, a Republic implies that the head of state is chosen by the people instead of being a monarch.

Ah, I see! I suppose I was getting "a throne surrounded by republican institutions" confused with a republic.

I agree with zen. A constitutional monarchy would be better than a republic. Based on the fact that the Empire has essentially be ruled by the emperors/empresses for centuries, it'd be considered quite radical to just remove them entirely. A republican faction wouldn't likely get very far unless the Emperor did something particularly nasty. As an alternative, you could always have a three-way civil war between absolutists, constitutionalists, and republicans. :D

Oh, it's definitely a constitutional monarchy (or will be, once I set up all the flavor), but I was unclear about the best name to stick on the map for the civil war.

Don't forget communists!:p

But does the revolt between hard imperialists and constitutional monarchists really makes sense? Would person on the throne change after wither side win?
Yeah, the absolutists want Prince Konstantinos instead of Alvertos.

I love how neither of the two "Rome"s actually owns the city of Rome itself :p

FWIW, I plan on putting in a focus chain/decision allowing the Burgundy/Italy alliance to evolve into the Holy Roman Empire ('cause the self-proclaimed Pope rules it). If they did it fast enough, we'd have three Romes!

Just make it conditional to where it's only possible if Italy doesn't own Rome :D

Rhomaion might be a simple enough name. After all, all modern countries with multi-word names get immediately abbreviated in common parlance.

Or just Rhomania.

That too. A few obvious examples include the DPRK (North Korea), the USA and the UK.

Okay, I've just dropped a new mod version on the modding thread. So far I've put in what I think should be all the releasable nations. If the borders look good, I'll put in an option to go with absolutist Rome, then go back through and adjust the flavor on everything (including the localisations on both sides of the civil war). Here's some screenshots for those who don't want to take the time to download the mod and load it up themselves (though please do, your feedback helps).

So, I realise that you're making things hard on yourself to have a world war in the first place, but what on earth has happened in the last few years to turn the Empire into just Greece Plus??

That's a good question! I'm thinking that the other regions having been split for a decade has made the notion of independence viable (though I plan to make other nations expansionist, so it's quite wrong) . And then most regions just don't want to be involved in the civil war.

I also plan that the focus tree will have diplomatic options for reintegration once the civil war is resolved. At least for the democratic side.
