EU4 - Development Diary - 21st of August 2018

Good day all and welcome to this week's EUIV Dev Diary. Dharma is a hair over 2 weeks away and we are as excited if not more so than you for its release. Today We'll be looking at the twenty Achievements that will be part of the update.

First though, I have a couple more render shots to add of units from the accompanying Content Pack. These are also being update in the archive for all our unit packs.

The fancy unit models shown here, as well as the elephants, advisor portraits and music shown in last week's dev diary are all part of the Dharma Content Pack which will be released alongside Dharma at a recommended price point of $7.99.

Now for those achievements! While the focus in Dharma and the 1.26 Mughals update is obviously India, we still make a mixed bag of achievements for across the world. Let's get down to it!

Bringing the total achievements list up to a staggering 285, there are achievements across the world and for a wide variety of play styles. We focus on keeping them interesting without bringing in more quazi World Conquests or "conquer Germany as x" achievements. In this batch, I'm excited about the Kale achievement, as well as having a great excuse to get my Imperialist boots on as Denmark.

We have just a couple of Dev Diaries remaining before Dharma releases. Next week we will have a grand summary of new mechanics in Dharma, the cliff notes of changes if you will, and following that expect Patchnotes as usual.

Dharma is available for preorder on both The Paradox Store and On Steam and releases on Thursday September 6th alongside the free 1.26 Mughals Update. See you next week!

Østindisk Kompagni Te: As Denmark establish Trade company and have at least 10% Tea market share
That name looks a bit weird.
Perhaps use a historical name instead of Østindisk Kompagni? (And preferably skip the te part. That looks out of place, at least unless you add a genitive s, i.e. Østindisk Kompagnis Te.)

Anyway the company used during the time frame was called Asiatisk Kompagni.

And if you think that's too broad then there is Det Østasiatiske Kompagni more commonly known as ØK, which also could be used.

Maybe you could simply include Brandenburg (and Teutonic order) in the possible enemies. That would make it more likely there is actually a chance of reaching it...
Just vassalize Brandenburg, feed them the Prussian lands, and wait. Then release and fight. Though the requirement for them to be reformed or protestant might be a problem.
Or start a game after 1525 when Prussia always exist, assuming this isn't another achievement you need to start in 1444 to get, though.

Why do you add achievements to nations that already had achievements and that did not get any new features in in the patch/DLC? Denmark and Austria are very strange choices here... So many tags in Europe without a single achievement and you choose two that already have some?
Imho it's not a bad idea to add achievements for countries that people like playing. I have been wanting to for example do a new Austria run, but was demotivated by there not being any specific achievement for me to earn anymore.

Will there be a bundle of the Content Pack and the Expansion? I would love to Pre-Order but fear missing out on a discount for buying both in one swoop.

The bundle is not live yet unfortunately, but it will be upon the release of Dharma. And this discount will be available both for those that per-ordered Dharma on Steam or Plaza! Regarding plaza pre-orders, once you've activated your purchase on Steam, the bundle will be available for purchase!

Prussia won't form more often in Dharma than usual. Then again, you can always take a few actions to nudge the formation in the right direction!
Vassalise Brandenburg - feed - release - apocalypse

I like it.

Nice. I love all the puns. I was just wondering, where does the name and idea for The Ostenders achievement come from?
It’s about the shortlived but successful Ostende Companie in the Austrian Netherlands. The pun is a reference to the British tv-serie of “EastEnders”

Tiger of Mysore! :D
Have you added more start screen synopsis to various Indian nations? it's a recent addition that I enjoy, and if so, which ones?
Since I'm greedy, and feel you could do more with Mysore, I hope it has a unique synopsis with Dharma, if not @Trin Tragula please correct this injustice if you can.

Also, in the True Heir of Timor achievement description india should be India, don't make the same mistake that CKII did with the Vasco da Gama achievement.

I said nothing about the trade company part... Just the fact that you have to be Denmark/Austria

Pretty hard considering how far away you are. If the reformation fails in that area, there is nothing you can do about that.
I guess you could go Protestant/reformed and enforce it on TO/Brandy

Beginning to get curious what the free patch between Dharma and the next DLC will be.

The bundle is not live yet unfortunately, but it will be upon the release of Dharma. And this discount will be available both for those that per-ordered Dharma on Steam or Plaza! Regarding plaza pre-orders, once you've activated your purchase on Steam, the bundle will be available for purchase!

So if i preorder Dharma on Steam, I will then have a price for the content pack that would make the two purchases -10% in total ? Not just the content pack ?

I am not personally too bothered about achivements (though the PDX ones are good enough that, while I won't play ironman to actually get them they do occasionally give me some ideas).

But I do love the puns. I really do.

With so many achievements, I wish the achievement tab got some more love. Ideally, you'd be able to filter which achievements you already have, and it would be nice if it integrated with the country selection screen so you could see "which countries are legible for this achievement" or "this country is legible for these achievements".

Actually, serious question. Wasn't Steam muttering something about limiting the number of achievements to 100 or something (to target all the dreck games that exist only to give out thousands of achievements)? How will/would that impact all the PDX games?

I really like that fallout themed picture for mewer never change achievement.

I just might do that one eventually at some point.
