EU4 - Development Diary - 21st of August 2018

Good day all and welcome to this week's EUIV Dev Diary. Dharma is a hair over 2 weeks away and we are as excited if not more so than you for its release. Today We'll be looking at the twenty Achievements that will be part of the update.

First though, I have a couple more render shots to add of units from the accompanying Content Pack. These are also being update in the archive for all our unit packs.

The fancy unit models shown here, as well as the elephants, advisor portraits and music shown in last week's dev diary are all part of the Dharma Content Pack which will be released alongside Dharma at a recommended price point of $7.99.

Now for those achievements! While the focus in Dharma and the 1.26 Mughals update is obviously India, we still make a mixed bag of achievements for across the world. Let's get down to it!

Bringing the total achievements list up to a staggering 285, there are achievements across the world and for a wide variety of play styles. We focus on keeping them interesting without bringing in more quazi World Conquests or "conquer Germany as x" achievements. In this batch, I'm excited about the Kale achievement, as well as having a great excuse to get my Imperialist boots on as Denmark.

We have just a couple of Dev Diaries remaining before Dharma releases. Next week we will have a grand summary of new mechanics in Dharma, the cliff notes of changes if you will, and following that expect Patchnotes as usual.

Dharma is available for preorder on both The Paradox Store and On Steam and releases on Thursday September 6th alongside the free 1.26 Mughals Update. See you next week!

I believe this is the first achievement that requires falling to religious rebels?

Don't like the achievement that requires the AI to form another nation to be possible. Especially when that nation also requires the AI to choose to change religion.

Will we get a modding dev diary for the new features (policies and government reforms) before launch?

Actually, serious question. Wasn't Steam muttering something about limiting the number of achievements to 100 or something (to target all the dreck games that exist only to give out thousands of achievements)? How will/would that impact all the PDX games?

The limit only applies to new Developers/Publishers until you get a reputation of making real games IIRC. You will see this now in the store, where on the page of a game it says "Steam is still learning about this game" in the place where it shows achievements/trading cards. Only once the game/dev/publisher gets a certain reputation cards will be unlocked an achievements above 100 will be allowed.

I whole-heatedly support this move by Valve. There are some completely stupid games where you get an achievement for every key you press, sometimes up to 100 achievements per minute.

The bundle is not live yet unfortunately, but it will be upon the release of Dharma. And this discount will be available both for those that per-ordered Dharma on Steam or Plaza! Regarding plaza pre-orders, once you've activated your purchase on Steam, the bundle will be available for purchase!

Thanks for the info! So I will pre-order, knowing that I will get a discount for the content pack as someone who pre-ordered Dharma :)

Prussia is probably the only formable that can be formed by a subject
Kurland is also formable by subjects :)
Honestly Westphalia and Italy should be able to as well, but I digress...

Love the achievements. Sikh Pun will certainly be my first one to go for.

Couple of quick questions:
1 - Could we get a list as to what nations will get clones of the new units?

View attachment 398642
Sikh Pun: Change Religion to Sikh as Punjab

2 - According to KaiserJohan:
Also the decision to form the Kingdom of Punjab requires you to be Sikh.
So how exactly is this achievement supposed to work? Or is this just old text that has yet to be updated?

Pretty. I like the look of the units. The only issue I would say that kills immersion slightly is how some of the regions seem to have white skinned soldiers. I mean Orissans or the Gondi people of Gondwana have a high percentage of indiginous Austronesian blood in them which gives them a particularly dark appearence (just google "orissan people" or "gondi people" to know what I mean). In the content pack however their units are practically white especially Orissa. This kills immersion for me slightly. However overall theres some nice diversity in there.

Why not an achievement for owning India and both the West/East Indies?

Punjab is a 1444 Nation, so I would imagine you have to start as them and convert to Sikh.

Since we are on the topic of achievements, @DDRJake can the filter for the achievement window be improved a bit? Seeing “A Sun God” and similar achievements pop up no matter who I play is kind of annoying.

"Starting as a Timurid subject, form the Mughals and conquer india by 1550"

Huhhh what do you mean with conquering India? Not even IRL Mughals did that before getting britished.

So if i preorder Dharma on Steam, I will then have a price for the content pack that would make the two purchases -10% in total ? Not just the content pack ?

I don't want to mislead you on that, so I'm going to check at the office. Logic dictates that if you pre-ordered the discount would be applied only to the content pack. But let me double check.

Wouldn't that be an incentive against preordering, though? Seems kinda weird. Now PI is a good company and one of the only ones I want to preorder games from so you'll still get my preorders, but it seems weird if you end up not giving a discount to the preorder too.
