EU4 - Development Diary - 21st of August 2018

Good day all and welcome to this week's EUIV Dev Diary. Dharma is a hair over 2 weeks away and we are as excited if not more so than you for its release. Today We'll be looking at the twenty Achievements that will be part of the update.

First though, I have a couple more render shots to add of units from the accompanying Content Pack. These are also being update in the archive for all our unit packs.

The fancy unit models shown here, as well as the elephants, advisor portraits and music shown in last week's dev diary are all part of the Dharma Content Pack which will be released alongside Dharma at a recommended price point of $7.99.

Now for those achievements! While the focus in Dharma and the 1.26 Mughals update is obviously India, we still make a mixed bag of achievements for across the world. Let's get down to it!

Bringing the total achievements list up to a staggering 285, there are achievements across the world and for a wide variety of play styles. We focus on keeping them interesting without bringing in more quazi World Conquests or "conquer Germany as x" achievements. In this batch, I'm excited about the Kale achievement, as well as having a great excuse to get my Imperialist boots on as Denmark.

We have just a couple of Dev Diaries remaining before Dharma releases. Next week we will have a grand summary of new mechanics in Dharma, the cliff notes of changes if you will, and following that expect Patchnotes as usual.

Dharma is available for preorder on both The Paradox Store and On Steam and releases on Thursday September 6th alongside the free 1.26 Mughals Update. See you next week!

Without pre-order you have the chance to get the bundle Dharma + Content Pack with 10% OFF (picture it as 5% on Dharma and 5% on Content Pack).

It's NOT 10% OFF Dharma (be it on pre-order or after release) AND 10% OFF Content Pack.
It's 10% OFF the combination of the two with the bundle (like stated above, picture it as 5% on Dharma and 5% on Content Pack).

Dharma on pre-order doesn't entail a discount there, it is the bundle that grants you the discount. Regardless of where you made your pre-order (i.e. Plaza or Steam), you will have access to the bundle and its discount on Steam. And since you have already pre-ordered the game, the 5% OFF Dharma (from the bundle) will be added to the 5% of the Content Pack.

Let know if you guys have any other question! :)

That's not how percentages work!

Well that is what I were fear off. If you're planned to get both, you're better off buy the bundle at launch than pre-order it.
Kinda defeating the point to pre-order it.

This is all very confusing. Next time plz consider a bundle (with 10% off) from the get go and separate as normal so you have all three options from the start. It puzzeled me why we couldnt pre-order the content pack when it was anounced as you can do with dharma. Its not that you can download anything anyway untill the 6th of sept. I'm not cancelling now but i will wait next time.

well, being humblebundle monthly subscriber i guess it will be -10% there, as EUR region the most expensive anyway and east europe need to buy for those prices aswell while we literally get only slavery level wages while food/electricity and everything except services costs same here as at west/north eu so i need that -10% but this will be my last eu4 expansion anyway, cant finance all these DLCs on all these strategy games.

Additionally, its pretty insulting that they milk even more money with unit packs and it cant be in an already expensive, 20eur dlc! i never buy unit packs as those should be in those 20eur dlc packs!

I am quite happy that I don't have to pay for the unit packs. Sure, it would be nice to get them for free, but that wouldn't be the case - development hours have gone into them and they need to be recouped. Even if they did offer it all for 20eur, I would rather just have the actual game content for 15eur, etc. If your case really is that the prices are too high, fair enough, but that is not the same thing.

Personally I'm fine with the price, due how much hours I can/had milked out of this game.

For those without pre-order:
There will be a bundle on Steam combining Dharma and its Content Pack with 10% OFF. There will not be a discount on Plaza nor a bundle.
Seems really weird to not have the bundle on plaza too after release given plaza is your main store and where you make the most on a sale...

For those with a pre-order:
Don't worry if you have pre-ordered Dharma on Plaza: the activation code for Steam will give you access to a discount on the content pack on Steam upon its release.
If you pre-ordered on Steam you will get access to the discount
upon release.
The discount will be of 10% on the Content Pack (Basically you get the discount on the items you don’t have in the bundle).

Hope this helps you guys, and that it will not induce a migraine :p
Point taken. You've gone with run over the preorders. Not really too nice.
Dharma is 19.99 and the content pack is 7.99 meaning a price of 19.99+7.99 = 27.96 to get both separately.
If you get the bundle post release it'll be (19.99+7.99)*0.9 = 25.18
If you preorder dharma you'll pay 19.99+7.99*.9 = 27.18...

That's some nice incentive to make people preorder there... If you preorder it'll be 2 $/€ more expensive than if you buy right on release. Way to go PI.
Now I'm still gonna keep preordering from you, for the moment at least, but I gotta say that throwing preorderers under the bus like this isn't really befitting your otherwise great company...

If i read it corretly steam will have a 10% on both, while pre-orders on plaza will only get 10% off the content pack on steam, not very nice. I ordered on plaza because it will net p'dox more currency but this is not the way id like to see it.
You read it completely right. As a preorderer you'll save the entirety of 76 cents to get both whereas had you not preordered, but waited until release you'd have saved 2.76 $/€...
Whether you ordered on plaza or steam is irrelevant here, though, aside from PI getting more money when you order on plaza, so if anything plaza should get the bigger discount, not steam, as the profit margin is higher on plaza as PI gets the sellers share themselves when bought on plaza.

And to think all this fuss is over saving $2.80....
The amount saved is irrelevant.
At least for me it's being unhappy about people not preordering saving more than those of us loyal enough to preorder.

iirc this is also the first time they do pre-order with EU4 (at least on steam). I just hope that this is a one-time screw up.
Can't talk about steam, but they have had preorders on plaza in the past. Sometimes bundled with expansions for other games. E.g. IIRC then Jade Dragon and Cradle were in a preorder bundle together.
Mandate also was in a preorder bundle with some other expansion, IIRC.

I love the pic for Sikh Pun.

Uh... I think you got it upside down. The dev not working on other start dates caused the lack of achievements, not the other way around.
Few people played later start dates in EU3 which didn't even have achievements (except for a brief experiment with non-Steam achievements). Probably led to minimal dev time spent on later dates in EU4.

On the other hand people use all the bookmarks in CK2 fairly equally.

I prefer playing later start dates like 1492 , 1579 and 1756 since it allows me to experience Historical mid and late game. As someone who frequently plays these starts its a real pity that these starts dates are completely broken . For example in 1492 Castile starts with a Truce with Granada. The 1618 start date has hasn't made use of the league mechanic despite it being introduced . The fact that religions in game are eternally rebellious traitors means that 1756 Great Britain is doomed to get taken over by Religious and Separatists rebels within a few years in an era when its supposed to be conquering the world. I really hope Paradox puts some effort into these bookmarks. They're unplayable right now.
