EU4 - Development Diary - 21st of August 2018

Good day all and welcome to this week's EUIV Dev Diary. Dharma is a hair over 2 weeks away and we are as excited if not more so than you for its release. Today We'll be looking at the twenty Achievements that will be part of the update.

First though, I have a couple more render shots to add of units from the accompanying Content Pack. These are also being update in the archive for all our unit packs.

The fancy unit models shown here, as well as the elephants, advisor portraits and music shown in last week's dev diary are all part of the Dharma Content Pack which will be released alongside Dharma at a recommended price point of $7.99.

Bringing the total achievements list up to a staggering 285, there are achievements across the world and for a wide variety of play styles. We focus on keeping them interesting without bringing in more quazi World Conquests or "conquer Germany as x" achievements. In this batch, I'm excited about the Kale achievement, as well as having a great excuse to get my Imperialist boots on as Denmark.

We have just a couple of Dev Diaries remaining before Dharma releases. Next week we will have a grand summary of new mechanics in Dharma, the cliff notes of changes if you will, and following that expect Patchnotes as usual.

Dharma is available for preorder on both The Paradox Store and On Steam and releases on Thursday September 6th alongside the free 1.26 Mughals Update. See you next week!

@DDRJake Also, this is unrelated to the dev diary but could you please get someone to fix the music times description on the EU3 music video?

All the god damned puns in this dev diary...
they're so bad they're almost good.

"Starting as a Timurid subject, form the Mughals and conquer india by 1550"

Huhhh what do you mean with conquering India? Not even IRL Mughals did that before getting britished.

Britished? If you mean they were ended by the British, then they really got Marathaed and lesser extent Sikhed and other breakaways, well over by the time British took over.

I prefer playing later start dates like 1492 , 1579 and 1756 since it allows me to experience Historical mid and late game. As someone who frequently plays these starts its a real pity that these starts dates are completely broken . For example in 1492 Castile starts with a Truce with Granada. The 1618 start date has hasn't made use of the league mechanic despite it being introduced . The fact that religions in game are eternally rebellious traitors means that 1756 Great Britain is doomed to get taken over by Religious and Separatists rebels within a few years in an era when its supposed to be conquering the world. I really hope Paradox puts some effort into these bookmarks. They're unplayable right now.

They have officially stopped supporting them due to the difficulty of having to balance for multiple start dates, so I doubt anything will happen to them (I don't even think the UK is Anglican if you have RB and play the later start dates)

Do you also think about reducing the amount of very simple achievements that are used to promote new mechanics, like Populists in Government? They seem to me like not adding a lot to the game aswell?

Well, there needs to be achievements for more casual players as well. Dipping their toes in a new expansion by going for an easy achievement that requires interacting with a new feature is a good way to steer them towards the new content.

I also greatly appreciate that there are multiple new achievements that require regional dominance rather than world dominance. I simply don't have the patience to go through all the hoops requried for a WC attempt, when I want to experiment with non-meta idea groups and try out non-optimal army compositions.

Some play for the challenge of the perfect playthrough as a tiny OPM going for world domination by 1650, so its good there are some WC / semi WC achievements in there for them as well.

They won't. They stopped the support of it long time ago. Since not many players use it and the time needed to fix it isn't worth it.

You would think that such a fix could easily be outsourced to fans for free.

That’s actually how it happened historically :p
In fact, Brandenburg gets an event specifically related to that.
no, someone formed prussia by taking berlin, i know that brandenburg got a pu on the teutons/prussia in real life, but (in my game) there was some other country that formed prussia and then got absorbed by brandenburg with my help
