EU4 - Development Diary - 11th of September 2018

Good morning and welcome to the first Post-Dharma dev diary. Dharma was released last week and by most measures was an extremely successful release for us. That said, we have a tradition of post release support for our games and expansions, that's what I'm here to talk about today.

Firstly, While Dharma had very few critical bugs on release, there are still issues out there that merit a hotfix. For us, a hotfix is a swift patch on a released product, aimed to fix two particular types of issues: Ones which disrupt the game/its features in a big way, typically crashes, freezes or features breaking in peculiar ways, or small yet high-impact issues which are quick to fix and test on our end.

We are building a hotfix as we speak, and a preliminary list of fixes we are going to be patching are as follows:

  • Fix crash when supporting heir with negative chance
  • Fixed a peace treaty crash for players continuing their 1.25 saves
  • Fixed Trade Company Investments being lost on tag switch
  • Fixed Trade company Crash
  • Fixed Crash when stopping Area Rebel suppression
  • Revolutionary governments now lose their number of reforms as if they switched via reform
  • Mewar achievement script issue fixed (should be visible if you've formed another nation)
  • Fixes theocracies and hordes not getting aristocratic ideas
  • Fixed rulers swapping religions back and fourth in certain cases
  • Fixed Achievements not being available for released nations
  • Stopped tight-fisted AI chartering provinces for 0 ducats
  • Adopt Islamic government no longe ravailable to Indian Sultanates
More fixes may be added to this list as we continue to monitor bug reports that are coming in. Our plan is to release this hotfix as a beta at some point this week, and fold that beta into the main game after a few days, assuming no other serious issues pop up.

There are certainly other issues which I'm certain people are keen to see addressed. For those, we are beginning work on the main post-release Update, 1.27. Let's talk about that now.

Post release updates come after a big expansion, are free and targeted at a region, much like the 1.24 Japan update. We add some flavour to the target region. It also allows us to round up on a lot of the bugs which come in, both for the recently released expansion and some of the older backlog of issues. They sometimes go hand in hand with other things, and that will be the case, as with 1.27, EU4 will also be joining the ranks of our other games in becoming fully GDPR compliant. More details on this will be released closer to the time, but the result for most users will just wind up being a policy to read before playing the game.

Religious conversion in territories has been a hot topic since its changes were announced for and subsequently released in 1.26. The response on it on all platforms (and I've read almost all of them) has lead to some interesting conversations about that whats and whys of religious conversion and some cool ideas on what do do about it. I'm not quite naive enough to overlook how they were overall negatively received, and we want to address these grievances. In the short term, we're going to look at bringing Religious and Humanist more in line with each other as viable choices for your nation for 1.27. We have longer term ideas for conversions, but we'll talk more about that down the line after 1.27.

So yes, Hotfix this week, 1.27 coming soon. Religious conversions responses not falling on deaf ears. Now how about the target for 1.27? Well, over the past year we've put a lot of work into the "Rest of the World" With focus on Japan, The Far East, The Near East and now India.

I'd say it's high time we put the Europa

Back in Europa Universalis

Thanks for your works!
By the way, I want to talk about your achievement “Emperor of Hindustan”.To complete this achievement,we must start as Delhi, which is under the Sayyids rule.Historically the Sayyids Seize the throne from the Tughlaq Dynasty after the sack of Delhi in 1398.They said they will Restore the sultanate, but they were defeated and defeated again by the Jaunpur sultanate, and many cities in Gangetic Plains were lost. They did not Restore the sultanate, but make the sultanate lower and lower. So Bahlul Lodi, lord of Sirhind, decided to seize the throne for himself, and finally he succeeded. He defeated Jaunpur for many times and in 1479 the Jaunpur was annexed by the Lodi Dynasty.Obviously the Lodi Dynasty restored the Sultanate's power in n
Northern India until 1526. So I think both the Sayyids(Delhi)and the Lodies(Sirhind)are able to complete this achievement. Will you think about this?

Poland free patch? :-(

I'm little disappointed. Hoped for immersion pack... Does it mean PLC won't get special unit hussaria like streltsy or yannisaries?

Do we have a chance for at least special gov mechanics like tsardom for elective monarchy?
Elective monarchy is a special government.

At least two new provinces; Rawa and Checiny.

Checiny was an administrative town and a split there was sorely needed. Rawa's inclusion is also very good, as Mazovia should indeed have more land.

Are there some other less obvious things about the map?

And what about corruption?
Corruption is THE main issue. Nerf it to 1/2 values from territories please, don't have to remove it completely. Remove unbalanced research corruption. Make special rules for hordes, they really need to hold lots of territories. Make a way to remove corruption, like we remove inflation.

People complained about religion the most - but there are ways around conversion. Corruption is much worse for the game well being.

Rest assured, we are aware that corruption is also an issue and we are actively listening to the community feedback in designated threads. We cannot make promises on how this issue will be tackled or if we will revert back any time soon on said change, there is also a possibility that corruption will not have a rework. It requires time and resources to gather healthy feedback and to come up with ideas on how to improve on certain mechanics and sometimes these ideas don't make the cut. We will keep you posted.

Thanks for the response to our feedback, though please consider not locking the ability to deal with unconverted territories strictly to Religious and Humanist ideas. Leave us more freedom by making us able to convert territories just by actively seeking conversion bonuses by conquering holy cities, stacking national ideas and policies, ruler traits and other means. Converting territories without blindly autopicking Religious should be definitely challenging, but feasible and rewarding.

This gives me some small hope for my continued support of your game/company as every other patch is typically a free patch. I've had the worst feeling that the solution to no longer being able to convert was going to be a paid feature, which it pretty much is at the moment since it basically requires the DLC that allows converting vassal territory.

I'll keep waiting and watching and may possibly buy Dharma in the future if there is a revert of the poor changes, or a satisfactory FREE supplement.

Thank you for your hard work and consideration.

Isn't this what always happens? A free patch after a major DLC?

Anyway, good to see some changes in Poland. Especially after the Russia update, Poland tends to die quite often.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to hope for an upgraded Germany/HRE too in that case.

I think Anatolia ve Balkan region countries need update..new idea set and new province for balkans, anatolians..Anatolian beyliks can be tribal federation..And Restore Great Seljuk Empire..I dont like rum..Rum is not empire..Only march of Great Seljuk Empire..Maybe tımar system adding game..And new special unit spahies...I do not attend Poland..his military ideas are among the best in the game..only need time..
I think about new things for Tribal federation and Step Horde...

Last Goverment Reforms

For Steppe Horde..%5 Moral And +1 Horde Unity

For Tribal Federation %5 Moral And +1 Tribal Allegiance @DDRJake

Poland, good pick. It needed work, but wasn't really Immersion pack territory. It will neatly fill in the missing stuff between the Third Rome pack and the future HRE expansion.

When you're doing Poland, it would be nice if you took the opportunity to create Livonian Order ideas and Riga ideas.

Thanks a lot for reply.

MarcoAntonio was playing Manchu game last night. While he sometimes rants frustrated : - ) he's godly player and he had 30ish corruption (and further +0.34 yealy he couldn't remove) at 1500y even tho he went quite quickly for India, Burma. Thats with gamey moving his capital to Europe (Perm) so that he can actually use trade companies. Without moving cap its quite unplayable.
You can delay corruption a bit with vassals (which he really doesn't like) but not much, issue is still there. And horde's especially can't stay in peace and wait - like you could do with monarchies, so change is especially bad for them.

You can check his twitch vod. In any case.. first moving cap should not be required. And even with that, corruption problems went quickly overboard.

@DDRJake - how about not giving hordes aristocratic ideas but instead adding to the game horde and theocratic ideas? We have aristo and plutocratic, why not add 2 more, that would fit other governments? And then restricting theocracy from picking other 3 idea groups, etc.
Also - good job on not backing from the changes. Don't do it - improve the game, but not change the current course.
