I had the option to do that as a Reyne lord and there was just no way not to take it.

I will disappoint you, those voyages were poetic license. First one was when Aegon as a kid declared war on corsairs on Basilisk Islands and I decided to join the war and travelled there. Second was Valyrian steel sword event where I went to Volantis, then to Valyria where I found a maimed, ugly old dragon, sword and a lot of gold.
There was actually a third, sort of, when I was around 60. My grandson had the claimant event fire for him, I did not realize it and used console to invite him back, which resulted in him going all around the Free Cities until he died of Winter Fever in Volantis and one of Volantene Valyrians tamed his dragon (my dragon laid two eggs, with both of them hatching and my sons gave eggs from their dragons to their children), so I decided to do what Jaehaerys threathened to do if one of the eggs stolen from him hatched in Essos, gave myself a claim on Volantis to be able to declare war and then brought fire and blood to them (of course, I ended it in white peace, it wasn´t a conquest war, rather a punishment for daring to go after Velaryon dragons).
Alyn died on his way back home and of course, because CK2 is CK2, he died from too much drinking, because apparently, once you become drunkard through event, there is no other way to die.
In my mind, he died while boarding to his ship after he razed Old Volantis to the ground and it definitely wasn´t because he drank too much!

thanks for a reply :)

i guess they changed the event for sword. there was no dragons before :)

I think it only fires for characters with certain traits and maybe just for High Valyrians. But I have honestly no idea, I was surprised by it too.

how'd you win it? Ever since a couple of updates ago i'm absolutely incapable of winning with Maelys and get crushed all the time
It need a lot of restarts because there is always some luck involved. My strat is first to hold in bloodstone by gathering all my troops there, and then I attack every army that invade the region even if they are more numerous. If you don't get overwhelmed, it's a good start. And your Tyroshi's allies are always useful as a bait even if they are crushed in the end, they will go in Westeros with their 10.000 soldiers, siege some castle, and fight some armies.
Then, when the invasions forces from Westeros became more and more scarce, you can go for the islands of Blackwater bay, to secure your warscore, and maybe capture Aerys or Rhaegar if you're Lucky (it's always some bonus % to have at least one of them in your dungeon). Again, if you're lucky, the North will even sides with you at a point. If it happen, you can begin to land on Westeros and fight sides by sides with the Stark against the forces of the Targaryens and their allies.
But it take years to win, in my case more than six years. And it "only" lasted six years thanks to this dumbass of Aerys.

A dragon riding, just, honorable septa who fights slavery and conquers the Stepstones all by herself?
Dang. There's some epic stuff right there! She will be the talk of the Citadel for the next age!

As the Young Wolf dethroning the boy-king Joffrey, reclaiming the ancestral sword of my family. Defeating the Night King, and finally bringing peace and a new spring to Westeros.
Suddenly found out my brother Jon decided to leave (desert) the Night's Watch and join a mercenary company in Essos, avoiding the inheritance (he was heir apparent) and having to deal with all those hateful racist scum up on that dreadful cold wall. He is still my brother and even a friend, and that is why I refuse to invite him to my court and have to deal with the possibility of bringing him to justice.
