Later on.
Dang it, was really hoping for a day one patch to fix some of the bigger issues now don't get me wrong I'm still going to play the heck out of the game but it's just going be a pain in the butt to have to deal with the mercenary spam early on from the AI.

Lol, believe me - there will be a day one patch. They have made *many* important (and small) changes since their "gold" version to steam was sent, and there's no way they will not implement most of them. Some of the changes, however, are probably a bit more deep in scope (re-working systems a little more in depth) and have a greater impact (which needs balancing and deeper thought), so they will save them for a bulkier patch later on.

But you can quote me on this; we won't be playing v1.0 (or whatever version was sent to steam) on release day. We won't be converting power into gold.

This. The big changes won't be in there, Johan was pretty clear on that. But there isn't a single game released today that doesn't get a day 1 patch of some kind. I'll tell you guyd this: except for the testers and devs, no one has ever played Civ5 or Civ6's 1.0 version, to take one example.

Speaking of which, when is that Warlock 2 patch coming out that fixes the game crashes and ten-minute AI turns... haha... I'm just joking guys... only been waiting since... 2014...

IIRC it was not developed by PDS, just published by PDX. Padarox Interactive (PDX) and Paradox Development Studio (PDS) are not the same thing.
That's not the point. The point is that there is indeed such a thing as a patch arriving too late: never. I'm not implying I think Paradox will abandon Imperator immediately after release. But assuming that concerns will eventually and inevitably be addressed is also wrong. There is, in short, too much trust that everything is going to be fixed a day after release.

Don't Worry it's a Echo Chamber here, look how many people are disliking someone for saying 'Game should be good enough on release' Regardless of who the studio is, the point is there are people still waiting for a specific patch to a random game out there and that there is no guarantee when or if they will get it.

Would you rather Johan didnt inform us about the need for an early patch and let the "broken" mechanic surprise you?

Johan should be thanked for communicating with us about the status of the game, even if he can't give us specific dates.

Also, I think if you are having anxiety issues about this game then you are taking it too seriously and shoudn't pre-order. Oh wait... you already did. Well lessons learned huh?

Edit: Get a full refund from steam if you are so dissatisfied.
this 100% agree with you, I pre-ordered the game and will stand by it. I believe in paradox devs!!!

Would you have Pre order the game if it was literal faeces attached to a joystick while shouting out loud 'I believe in paradox' or did you look up the information provided by paradox releasing its a game set in Rome you'd like to play.

I fallowed this game for 3 months before I pre-ordered it. But I also believe in PDX because I know they will work on their games if you know what I mean.

I just cant understand some of you on here. I'd sell a close relative into slavery for even a broken version of this game. :p

The problems will be fixed in time, and in the mean time it looks better than any other game I have seen that is set in this time period. On top of that it is very affordable compared to the overpriced alternatives.

I mean, would you prefer they delayed the release date. I want it NOW. :D

Hmn, for me thats the wrong approach. Would I prefer they delayed release date? Actually yes, if it helps getting a better game.

It's a Paradox game, it is going to be in perpetual development. I trust them to do this, as they have the track record.

I am, however, not patient. I see it. I want it. Now. : D

This is where I disagree. Why should they delay the game for everyone, if you basically could delay it for yourself by not playing it for a while?
A lot of people actually think that the game is good enough to be released in a current shape. If they wanted to make an ideal game of, say, CK2, they'd release it yesterday instead of 2012.
Everyone who love the current state of the game will play it even before this update. So you'd rather delay it for everyone to ensure your good impression from the start? It's pretty self-centric. Just don't pre-order it and that's all.

Hmn, my motivation for delaying it is actually not born out of egoism, I do want to play the game absolutely (favourably yesterday) and I do know that PDX has a great track record of keeping the development of games up, constantly adding features and most of the time improving the gameplay. I do however not concur with "lots of people like the gamestate so release already". Lots of people liked the gamestate of Rome 2 before release and it turned out to be quite broken. Lots of people liked the the gamestate of the newest Stellaris expansion and it turned out to be quite broken.

I do realise that I did not clarify my opinion well enough, what I meant is: If the Imperator team would decide to delay the release date, I would be fine with that as it ultimately would mean that they don't think its in a good state.

Releasing a game with lots of bugs (not saying Imperator has those, taking a more wide approach here) does hurt your reputation as a publisher, which means less copies sold, less money available for further development of DLCs/Patches and new games. Taking the example of TW:Rome 2, it took until the release of Warhammer TW 1 for CA to get back the same standing with it's fans as before the release. And don't get me wrong, the game looked amazing, the AI looked capable in the pre-release videos, everything looked like polished and nice. (Tidbit, its now actually reasonably good and challenging when played with the DEI mod, AI is quite capable and only brakes in certain instances)

For Imperator, I expect to see a lot of smaller Bugs, and a few bigger Bugs including CTC's on release. This bit will be unavoidable, just because PDX can neither test all PC configs nor find ALL the bugs that exist (or have time to solve all the minor, not impactfull ones). I do however expect a game that is balanced (in approach not nations) and fun to play and when they (the DEVs) would have decided for a delay, then I would ahve been perfectly fine with it.

I would agree they shouldn't release a bug ridden game, while I myself might still enjoy it, it would not be good for reputation.

However, I believe we are talking more specifically within the scope of the original post around game balancing, such as fixing the over reliance on mercenaries etc. This doesn't impact the playability of the game, it is just a balance issue that needs to be fixed.
