This mod changes the contract system, so that you can take any contract you wish.

However, factions that hate you or even dislike you will pay you far less than the baseline game, so you are encouraged to repair your reputation by doing challenging work for free, rather than for profit.

This replaces the awful system where you grind 0.5 skull, zero challenge contracts to fix loathed reputation and/or you can't take on high difficulty challenges because reputation prevents you from taking high difficulty challenges early by gating them behind honoured status.

I finally made this mod after whining about this exact issue on my channel for the last 20 or so campaigns XD.

Note:
This mod should work with all known mod packs, just drop it in and load it last. It also works for campaign but this is experimental.

what about factions that you are enemies with because you are allied with someone?

i.e. will this mod let you go above zero rep?

otherwise you would be best served sticking to contracts from your ally and their friends yes?

You can take any contract you like, including ones for your ally's enemies. However, the highest your reputation can ever be with an enemy is indifferent (0), so you won't be paid well.

i figured....but it also makes sense.
i am using it with my bex ce install right now all seems good....but then again i am allied with Liao so that means the good money is with them and Kurita.
but with the whole IS to play in...contracts wont be an issue.:D

endorsed.

Fantastic mod idea.

This is absolutely the way HBS should have done it.

This will be a must. I don't mind the reputation system so much, but once you have gotten your rep down to a certain point it's just a needless grind to make any real progress on repairing it. This should fix that. Because I honestly hate grinding in games, its just a time wasting mechanic IMO.

One question @Edmon , so if the intent of the mod is to repair your "bad" reputation by doing missions for free, do that means you get more salvage or no salvage at all?

If you do a 5 skull mission for someone who loathes you, you will get a 0.95 reward modifier. In other words, you'll get 0.05% of the base rewards. So you are encouraged but not forced to select reputation from the slider...

SInce we're talking about this, here's my fantasy for what the system should look like:

  • MRB Rating - This represents your effectiveness, reliability, and trustworthiness. It is the only factor in whether or not you're offered a contract, with one exception.
  • Faction Rating - Faction Rating will be eliminated. This is meant to simulate the pragmatism of the combatants. Emotions are a weakness. A reliable mercenary unit is rare and useful weapon, and useful weapons must be used. Would you refuse to use your enemy's weapon because it was used to kill your friends? Hell no, you wouldn't. You'd pick it up and turn it on your enemy. Well, we're that weapon. That said, we're all professionals here and we all know that offering us a 10% bonus because you like us isn't going to keep us from taking contracts with your enemies. Nor will we be willing to work for less just because we've killed a few of your people. The price is the price. There is one exception to the compensation rule.
  • Stores - Store prices are set to the value of the item, and not influenced by reputation. This is business, not personal. There is one exception to the store prices rule.
  • Alliances - Alliances will be eliminated and replaced with Long Term Contracts.
  • Long Term Contracts - Long Term Contracts aren't popularity contests. Your MRB rating will be the only factor in determining access to LTCs. LTCs are the only exception to the MRB mission availability rule and to the Compensation and Store rules. If you sign a LTC with a House all other factions will consider you a member of that House. Your patron's enemies will therefore become your enemies. Your enemies will not give you contracts nor will they give you access to their space (and therefore their stores) until the LTC is terminated. Furthermore, your patron will not look kindly on you wandering off to take a contract from some other faction, regardless of their relationship with your patron. You're on retainer and you're expected to be there when they need you. Because a LTC is supposed to be a mark of respect and an advantage to the recipient, the disadvantages mentioned above will be offset with higher pay for contracts and lower prices on a significantly better selection at your patron's stores. The higher compensation will be available immediately, but there will be a 3 month waiting period on access to the upgraded stores. To prevent abuse of the contract system you will not be permitted to enter into another LTC for 3 months after you leave one.
And that's basically it. It's not polished or perfect, but I think it would make for a pretty good system.
