My takeaways:
No baron or landless play
Modding should be easier (or at least that's the hope)
They haven't found a good solution for "multivassality" (I think someone used that phrase here)

Characters traits will be much more visible but they are likely going to have fewer traits so quality over quantity here. Role playing seems to be more of a focus.

roleplaying focus makes sense based on having skill trees or whatever. reminds me more of a RPG than grand strategy, hopefully it doesn't detract from the gameplay experience

Role playing seems to be the primary focus of CK3 while grand strategy is likely a secondary focus. In CK2 character is the base unit that connects Everything, not countries like in EUIV and CK3 may more even more towards RP with the GS part of the game being a support mechanic.

I'm hoping that's true. I've never really been interested in World Conquest. I've had most of my fun from watching the AI-run realms get up to whatever insanity they can get up to, managing my realm, my vassals, courtiers, and my family...

Why is this on Reddit and not the actual forum.

It's on the forum now. :p But seriously I don't think this was intended to be a formal release of information. I assume that will come with dev diaries.

I do have to wonder how the roleplaying focus will manifest. I actually liked the traits and somewhat laissez faire approach of CK2. Even with traits that seem to conflict, it was a nice abstraction of the complexities of individuals, and you had free reign to interpret characters and justify their actions.

If it's roleplaying a la clicking a lot of predetermined dialogue boxes with options, HMM.

But then we know so little about what's to come, and more roleplaying plays to CK's character-focused strengths. I'll remain optimistic

its said that the building system works well in the multiplayer sessions, i might be wrong but dont they usually leave the multiplayer sessions till later on in development when the games more stable and playable? i seem to recall reading a dev say something like that?.

This makes me doubtful as to the viability of the game. It makes it sound like it remains much of the same. Worrying indeed.

All I read is that all the most requested things on the forums won't be in the game because arent possible or they havent thought of a way.

Makes it sounds like its gonna be an improved version of CK2 with a much better and accessible UI, but nothing brand new apparently so far.... which is really disappointing.

Traits currently are mostly just stat modifications with the occasional interaction. If they can give traits more connection to the events without taking away the aspect of choice, it doesn't bother me to have fewer traits.
Non-playable barons is a bit unfortunate, but I think we do not know enough about the vassal and building systems yet to make an assessment of these decisions yet.

People are very happy with CK2 as it is. Paying 50€ for an improved version of CK2 if its not gonna at least have brand new stuff people were asking for in the forums...People will just be like...ehrm..Ill save myself 50€ and keep playing CK2 for a couple more years then.

Because apparently baronies on the map seems to have as only purpose to spice up warfare...but they remain unplayable, for instance.

"Stronger focus on traits, but less traits." Sounds like there has been a streamlining of the trait system. I guess the stronger focus alludes towards leaning more to the RPGness of the game?

Less traits but more impactful would be great if done right. Right know in CK2 you can get ridiculous amount of traits, inflation of stats is real, especially when you compare Player character vs AI.

My take on this:

  • Less traits at release, but quality over quantity. Maybe each trait can also have different effects based on perk trees. However I'm 99% sure that once DLCs start pouring in, the number of traits will increase too.
  • Good to see that the building system is a focus of development. It makes me hope that we may even see great works at release, though I still think they'll come later with DLCs (they better be more than the ones on CK2 though).
  • Absolutely happy and relieved that modding won't be impaired by the new game.
  • Curious to see how improved the combat is.
  • Baronies not playable are a bit of a downer, but the important bit is that they seem to want every vassal to be on the map, which is good.
  • No landless gameplay, but that was expected I think. Wouldn't put past them to make an Adventurer DLC in the future though.
  • Complex feudal mechanics are an headache, but they actually talked about them. Again, for the sake of less bugs and exploits as possible, I think they won't be at release, but in the near future they'll probably start making specific overhauls.
  • Heresies seem another focus of the game. Maybe they hint at a religion mechanics overhaul too?

Yes, I believe it is that. Less traits but it wont just be some opinion modifier, but will truly impact the game in deeper ways. Which Im happy with tbh. When your character got old you could stock up so many traits you wouldnt be able to keep track of them any more, and many kept repeating themselves etc. So yes less but more impactful is better I believe.

I rather have less, but meatier traits. Those zounds of little traits were a hog to manage.

Maybe levels on more/all traits? Like with the education traits? Like say, there's three different levels of Kind. Or maybe you start out as Cruel and can later turn that into Impaler; and I mean it would supersede Cruel, to avoid overlap and a clog of traits.
