I have a 32-bit pc. When I opened steam Crusader Kings it got an update which I believe is version 3.2.2, which adds 64-bit support if i am not mistaken. However it seems that a 64-bit systems are not only supported now, they are required! When I tried launching the game steam gives me the messege " An error occurred while updating Crusader Kings 2 (invalid platform)".

Now, besides the fact that its wrong to force such an update on poeple who may have older PCs, even when I tried using an older version (v3.2.1) from the betas menu, steam would still give me the same messege.

Is there any way to fix this or should I ask for a refund ( I spend 70 euros buying DLCs just yesterday ffs!!)

Thanks to the advise of a fellow steam user I got it working again. You have to run the game as admin to get the launcer to open and if u get an error afterwards (I didn't) u need to update Microsoft Visual C++ (u can find the update in Microsoft's website, they dont let me post urls).

It would have been nice to get some reply from the tech support team btw and like I said before, releasing an update like that and essentially taking the game away from ppl who paid for it is not right and u should definitely release some update that fixes the problem for ppl who dont see this post.

I did not have this issue at all. How long ago did you last play the game?

I'm more surprised I did not manage to find any official info about patch. Just your post here

are u playing on a 32-bit system? I Played the game this morning and it worked. Closed it, did something else, the game updated when I wasnt looking, tried to launc it again and it didnt work. But like I said, I fixed it, for now at least.

Steam tells me that CK2 is 64bit, but this is why I opted into the freaking beta thing. Why won't this stupid app not let me install the freaking game the way I want to freaking play it?

Sorry I am mad as hell and *self edited* with their deus vult threads everyfreakingwhere are getting on my nerves.

i had same problem since yesterday. i played last time 2 days ago. I was using w10, i changed to w7 for fix the problem.(what relevance? xd) It didnt work. I am not believing that problem about update. Because there is same problem in Business Tour Game.

This is so stupid. I wan't to play CK2 patch 2.8.3.4. As far as I know it's 32 bit version. WHY is Steam telling me I can't run the game that ran just fine 3 days ago? Why is there no way to force Steam to run it anyway?

What the hell am I to do now with the game that does not work anymore? I can't get refund cause friend gifted it all to me, and I have over 1300h. Stupid Steam telling me what I can and can't run.

Same issue, clean installed the game and Windows itself on a high end machine (my go-to solution).

It's probably a specific redistributable required for the 64bit version that almost everyone has because of other games/programs, and thus one that Paradox forgot to include with the new steam API "common redistributables" system in the update (this is my guess on why there aren't many threads on this issue, and why this wasn't caught in the beta for 64bit).

Will update if I can find a fix.

For me it looks like currently whole CK2 require 64-bit pc, not only the newest patch, that's why f.ex. i cant play or even install game without invalid platform error. That's strange, because there is no such problem in HoI4 or Eu4, so i hope that it would be eventually fixed.

Yes, I have the same issue. I tried rolling back to a previous version that I played just a few weeks ago, as well as the other fixes suggested in this thread (Visual C++ 2015, running as admin), but nothing works and now I'm staring at my Steam client showing me a game that, with DLC, has cost me an eye-watering amount of money and that I can't play for [reasons?]... Disappointing that there does not appear to be an official fix yet....

The running as Admin solution does work, at least for me but perhaps the instructions aren't all that clear, go to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II and right click CK2game and run as Admin

I'm glad that fixed it for you, but when I try that I get a compatibility error indicating the .exe requires a 64-bit system - it won't even open the launcher. Based on this and the info on Steam, it looks like Paradox forced a 64-bit only version onto every user, which seems.... odd. That's kind of a big change that is guaranteed to lock out many users. Especially with CKIII coming out soon, it's weird they would make such a spec requirement upgrade on a game that's about to be last-gen. Why not at least leave a 32-bit version available as a beta option? Obviously the base game and all DLC's worked on 32-bit machines, so I don't see a good reason to not let CKII stay at 32-bit (at least as an option).

I mean, go ahead and develop future DLC and games for 64-bit only if that's what they want to do, but for those of use who have played this game for years and maybe don't have newer machines ready for the next-gen stuff, it's a bit of a kick in the teeth to lose an old favourite into which we've poured so much time and money.

Or maybe there's some other weird thing going on that I'm not seeing - if anyone else has found a fix to get this game playable on 32-bit I'd love to hear it...

Priceyy, are you on a 32-bit system?

I am indeed on a 32 bit system and I've been playing on 3.0.1.1 as any later versions causes me saving issues. That sucks man I can't imagine why it would work for me and some others but not for everyone but even saying that it's not a solid solution it seems to disable the steam overlay and prevents you from getting achievements so you're basically playing in offline mode, beyond that I also don't get a play button for launching CK2 from Steam and when I try to launch it from my desktop I get 'Invalid Platform' fingers crossed that Paradox fixes it for us and doesn't just take our money and run

Thanks - I rolled allllll the way back to this version and did the run-as-admin trick, which does actually get the launcher and game going, but with all of my DLC completely disabled. Are you able access your DLC?

It's better than nothing, but just barely...:(

It seems from another thread on this board the even the 64-bit is having catastrophic issues for some users. I hope devs get around to sorting all this out!

How u run it as administrator? Have the same issues and if i’m going in ck2 properties I don’t have the windows to run as admin
The game doesn’t even launch, I just see the “in execution” on the steam library for few seconds and then nothing

Rcght-click on ck2game.exe , you'll see Run as Admin in that menu.

Did try the run as admin, didn't work. Installed Visual C++ latest version , didn't work. My game says running when launching from steam, then it fails to start after it says synchronising. Will you bee looking in to this issue with an update or so?
