I get the error message - "an error occurred while updating CK2 (unknown error)" - when I try to start the game.

Ive tried using the beta patches, I've verified the game files and I've un- and re- installed the game. Is there anything else I can try or is that it until it's time to switch laptops?

Hi, I ran into the same problem. I think it's a Steam bug, not a CK2 issue.

What worked for me was downgrading to the 3.2.2 64-bit beta, launching it, quitting, and then upgrading back to 3.3.0 (i.e. opt out of the betas).

To downgrade to a beta, just click the gear icon next to "Achievements" on the game's Steam page, then click "properties" and go to the "Betas" tab.

I don't know if this will work for you (or anyone else running into this issue), but it seemed to work for me.

This fix did not work for me

I tried that, flicking few the different betas a few times and it didn't make a difference; but when I've tried it again today it worked so thanks!
