Civil War in Equestria! The unthinkable had happened. The once peaceful land of Equestria has split in a civil war as the two former co-rulers of Equestria have split apart. As the armies of Equestria and the Lunar Empire clash, a myriad of separatists are taking the opportunity to break off. While down in the south east a smaller clash is taking place.

When the civil started the south east was under the control of the Lunar Empire. But it has now become a 4 way free for all as various forces have risen up against the Lunarist forces in the region. In the west Equestrian Loyalists captured Stableside and proclaimed the Celestial State. While in the East, under a united Popular Front, anarchist. syndicalist, communists, and stallionists militias have driven the Lunarist garrison out of Baltimare and formed the Baltimare Republic under the rule of a temporary war-time government.

This is where the story of our hero, the world famous (infamous) archeologist, Doctor Caballeron begins. Leading a force of mercenaries, Doctor Caballeron defeated Lunarist forces in Tenochtitlan and liberated the natives there. He formed the Aztlan Free State with the support of several native tribes and now leads a combined army of mercenaries and natives to fight the remaining Lunarist garrison and other rebel groups for control of the South East.

Of course even if Dr Caballeron does win there's still the danger of the eventual winner of the Equestrian Civil War. No matter which side is victorious, they likely won't take kindly to any breakaway states and they will probably just see Caballeron as some greedy criminal. Then there's the Changelings who certainly will seek to conquer all of Equestria, including any breakaway states. But those are problems Dr Caballeron will deal with for another time, now Dr Caballeron must win this war and achieve peace in the South East. After all Dr Caballeron has the best interests of the natives at heart.

Equestria, the land of harmony as it is known. It has stood for thousands of years and everything looks fine on the outside. Having been under the rule of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. In fact, Equestria has often been used as an example to promote the ideology of harmony. Being cited as the "Equestrian Model". Yet Equestria has internal issues.

One being the completely unregulated capitalism in the nation. This has led to poor working conditions for the common workers which in turn has caused the rise of Trade Unions. These Trade Unions are particularly powerful in highly industrialized cities such as Vanhoover, Las Pegasus, and Baltimare. In fact capitalism can be directly attributed as one of the causes of the 994 December Revolution that led to Stalliongrad becoming an independent nation. In 991 the northern Equestrian region of what was then known as Severnaya faced serious crop failure and food shortage due to a dry summer and harsh winter. The region needed to import food to survive. The capitalists took advantage of this and charged extortionate prices for the food. This anger led to the growing of a radical ideology known as communism and the eventual 994 December Revolution.

While Equestria is widely known as an industrialized nation, the benefits are not shared evenly. For regions in the south, especially those inhabited by the natives tribes in the south east and the deserts of the south west are left behind. These regions remain relatively underdeveloped compared to the rest of Equestria. In the south west, there still exists a enclave of buffalo that routinely destroy the crops of the ponies living there and so far the Canterlot government has yet to take any action against the Buffalo. This combined with the lack of representation in the Canterlot government has led to a cultural divide of sorts between the southern and northern Equestria and the emerge of political groups that advocate for Southern Independence.

Then there’s of course the thestral issue. Also known as the forgotten tribe, the thestrals (just think batponies) are an unofficial fourth tribe. However unlike the 3 regular race of ponies (earth, Pegasus, unicorn), the thestrals are widely discriminated against. They live apart from the 3 other tribes, are mistrusted, and are often exploited as cheap labour, being paid wages far below what a "normal" pony would receive. There have even been rumours of a thestral cult in the south east that wishes for an eternal night.

But despite these issues many are anticipating a bright future for Equestria. The Trade Unions may strike and protest but that’s all they do. After all what’s the worst these Trade Unions could do, take over a city? In addition we have been hearing news of food shortages in Stalliongrad for quite awhile, sooner or later Stalliongrad will realise it was mistake to leave and come right back to us. And these Southern Independence groups are only a minority, most of the ponies in the south want to stay with Equestria. Besides, if these Southern Independence groups do try to make an attempt at secession then the Equestrian Military will be there to stop them. As for the thestral issue. Despite widespread discrimination, progressive activists have started to emerge in support of the thestrals. Furthermore Princess Luna, known as the Princess of the Night and being rather fond of thestrals, intends to go on a nationwide campaign in support of thestral rights. As for those rumours of a thestral cult, those are just that, rumours. There is no such cult.

Things look better already and Equestria looks set for another generation of peace and prosperity!

I will avoid making decisions for the nations I am looking as. Once the Civil War starts I will switch and play as Equestria until I get the event for the Aztlan Free State which should happen soon after.

World in 1007

Throughout the year Princess Luna would go on a nationwide campaign for thestral rights. She would travel to many cities across Equestria and speak out against the poor treatment of the thestrals, the injustices they face. Backed by a team of dedicated campaign activists, the campaign would rapidly gain traction in several cities, especially the eastern cities.

As the world progressed through 1007, several notable events occurred. In Lake City, a military coup deposed the republican government and is putting the old monarchy back. In Wingbardy, Beakoklini, the leader of the fascist PNF, became the new prime minister.

War has erupted in several regions of the world. In Aquileia, revolutionary activity has reached a climax as the Kingdom of Aquileia now emboils itself in a Second Revolution. Longsword erupts in a 3 way civil war broke out between partisans, members of the rebelling military, and the Reformisten government. The partisans would win after several months of fighting. In Olenia, Princess Velvet, known by many as the rightful heir, has returned to Olenia to take the throne from King Johan, the illegitimate heir who seized the throne after the pervious King died. While the Prywhen Civl War ends in a victory for the Griffon Liberation Army. The peace was short lived as the new nation heads west to pacify the Blackrock Bandits.

While the world grapples with conflict New Mareland seeks a path away from Equestria. Yet in a more surprising turn of events, New Mareland has recognized Stalliongrad as a independent nation. This has heightened tensions between the colony and its overland. There had even been diplomatic meetings with Sinister Serov, the recently elected General Secretary of the Stalliongrad Communist Party.

Most excitedly, famous author A.K. Yearling has released the book in the Daring Do book series. Through Dr Caballeron probably won't like it. After all, Dr Caballeron has a long history of running into Daring Do during his archeological adventures which sometimes ends in Daring Do stealing the artifacts he found. This is not Dr Caballeron's fault of course as Dr Caballeron once offered to partner with Daring Do but she stubbornly refused.

In the Herzlands, the Emperor is dead. Yet as the Emperor dies, there was already scheming as Archon Eros VII and Duchess Gabriela Eagleclaw fought for the Imperial Regency. In the end Archon Eros VII would win the Imperial Regency but not without consequences as Duchess Gabriela and numerous nobles across Herzlands announced their secession from the Empire. Now Duchess Gabriela has returned to the Strawberry Duchy and is gathering allies to oppose the Archon and the remainders of the Reichspakt. While in Southern Herzlands, anarchist overthrew the Barony of Angriver proclaimed the Angriver Commune.

While 1007 ends and the world draws closer to conflict. Equestria will prosper and continue to serve as a shinning model to others...

Well this is a unfortunate series of events.

3. Longsword Civil War reminds me of the KRTL Spanish Civil War with Reformisten government would be the Alfonso Bourbon dynasty, Silvertalon would be like the Carlists, while the partisans would be CNT-FAI anarchists.

The Equestrian Civil War and Splinter States
As the Equestrian Civil War starts there were conflicting reports from both sides on the situation. While Princess Luna has claimed Celestial has gone mad with hatred for batponies and had plotted her death, and she is fighting for batpony equality and stop her sister's madness. Celestial has claimed Luna has turned into Nightmare Moon and has called her subjects to defend harmony. This left the vassals of Equestria in a choice between who to support. The Crystal Empire backed Celestial and joined Equestria in its wars against the Lunar Empire. However New Mareland chose a third option and backed neither. Instead they kicked out Equestrian ambassadors and declared independence.

At the onset of the Civil War the Equestrian Military was caught completely unprepared. Many military units were out of place and a few were even stationed on Eastern Equestria, separated from the rest of the military where they were quickly overwhelmed by batpony and local militias. In the openning days Equestrian High Command quickly rushed divisions from around the nation, even from the "Village Up North" bordering Nova Griffonia to the frontlines. As both sides moved their armies to the frontline, Equestria would find itself on the defensive as Lunarist forces would outnumber the Equestrian Military. While most of the military stayed with Celestial, the Lunarist were supported by large amounts of militias and cultists. In the early days local Equestrian forces would bore the blunt of the fighting. In Dodge City the local police would put up a valiant defense against a much larger Lunarist force for several days before surrendering.

While the Equestrian Civil War was going on, Stalliongrad would not sit idly. In addition to send volunteers to Equestria. Stalliongrad moved several divisions to occupy the territory south of it under the pretense of "Protecting the civilian from the horrors of the Civil War". What few forces the Lunar Empire stationed there were quickly swept aside and Stalliongrad has secured the new territory for itself.

As the Equestrian Military moved to the frontlines, forces in its rear would take the opportunity to implement their own plans. In what would be known as the "Vanhoover Mutiny", several Equestrian and Lunarist navy ships would stop obeying orders and instead a plot a course to Vanhoover. Under the leadership of Admirad Dust Hoover, marines would land on Vanhoover and with the support of local communist militias, proclaimed the Vanhoover Commune.

In the South-East, various forces have risen up against the Lunarist in the region. In what will become a 4 way war, the Celestial State, Baltimare Republic, Aztlan Free State, and the Disciples of the Night are all fighting for control of the South-East. In Baltimare, a coalition of various leftists forces under the leadership of Golden Delicious are coming out from Baltimare. While the Lunarist garrison has reorganised itself under the command of Stars Whirl. Doctor Caballeron's rival Daring Do is leading Equestruan Loyalists near Stableside.

Sensing their opportunity, Southern politicians have declared their secession from Equestria and formed the Confederation of Southern States. Lead by J.D Neighvis, the leader of the Coltumbia party which is a Southern Independence group, the nation aims to distance itself from Equestria. However there are still may royalists that oppose the new government and wish to return to Equestria. With the upcoming Constitutional Convention Neighvis must keep the royalists in check if he is to preserve his dream of a independent south. In addition the independent south may be able to finally take action against the Buffalo State.

Following the example of the Confederation, Las Pegasus would declare independence a few days later. As a result of powerful businesses fearing the nationalization of their assets and the bureaucratic overhaul which would expose their corruption, Mayor Rokenhar was forced into secession against the wishes of the population. The city is set for a period of political turmoil as mass immigration and lack of food imports puts the city on the brink of a famine. While in the streets harmonists, communists, and fascists clash for control of the city.

The Equestrian Civil War has divided Equestria and now the country tears itself apart. These will be difficult times for Equestria, we can only hope it ends quickly.

February 1008 - Mid March 1008: The South-East War Part 1
The start of February 1008 was the beginning of the South-East War through it is referred to by different names by the combatants. For the Celestial Loyalists it was the South-East Liberation, the Lunarists called it the South-East Rebellion, the communists called it the South-East Revolution. For Dr Caballeron and his native allies however, it was the South-East Independence War.

While many are skeptical of Dr Caballeron's claims of fighting to help and defend the natives, ultimately most of the natives would end up siding with Dr Caballeron. For many Dr Caballeron was their best chance and hope for a bright future. Under Celestial's rule, the natives were ignored and left behind while the rest of Equestria prospered, many expect this will not change under Celestial's rule. While if the Lunarists win then there is a huge concern the south east would turn into a thestral ethnostate where the thestrals would be given advantages at the expense of everyone else. While with the communists, may are worried about the widespread discrimination the communists have against the natives, that they would try to destroy their culture and heritage.

Dr Caballeron however has shown himself to understand the natives and is knowledgeable about their culture. During the initial stages of the South-East War, Dr Caballeron met with several native chiefs and was able to reach a agreement of cooperation with them. With the agreements in place the natives would provide Dr Caballeron with some of their best warriors and knowledge of the terrain. In return Caballeron will respect their culture and provide them with better infrastructure and development once the war was over.

While the Lunarist garrison is still fairly large, they are split between fighting the 3 other nations. Industrially, in the South East, only the city of Baltimare has any significant amount of industry which is under the control of the communists. However the chaos of the Civil War means those factories won't be operating at full capacity. While the Aztlan Free State lacks any industrial base, the joint army of mercenaries and natives Dr Caballeron has gathered gives him a seizable force.

Control of states will be key to winning the South-East War, the more territory that the Aztlan Free State is able to control the more Tribal Warbands Dr Caballeron will be able to recruit to his cause. Depending on the territory, a number of warbands can be recruited. While not well equipped by any means, every last division will be helpful in winning the South-East War.

At the onset of the war, the army of the Aztlan Free State quickly mobilized to meet the Lunarists in battle. The jungles of the South-East and poor equipment field by all the combatants makes any attack on the enemy difficult, maneuvers in the jungles will be key to winning. Skirmishes quickly occurred between the Aztlan Forces and the Lunarist garrison. While the Aztlan Forces were initially kept at bay, a breakthrough was achieved in the south as a overwhelming Aztlan force routed the 6th "Deep Night" division.

This breakthrough was exploited as the Aztlan forces poured through the gap and split up to encircle several Lunarist units and capture Maredia, the temporary capital of the Lunarist forces in the South-East. Out of supply and without a line of communication, the surrounded Lunarist units distinguished. With only a few Lunarist units on the frontline, the Aztlan Army continue to push deeper into the jungle and encircle the Lunarists. The first 6 weeks has seen the Aztlan Army dealing a great blow to the Lunarist, yet there was still more progress to be made.

Mid March 1008 - Early May 1008: The South-East War Part 2

Throughout the next few weeks the Aztlan Army continued to march against the Lunarist Garrison. While many of the various mercenaries were unfamiliar with the jungles, the alliance with the natives provided its worth. In addition to intelligence, native advisors would accompany every mercenary unit and their expertise guided the mercenaries well in the jungles. Well known paths and shortcuts allowed the Aztlan Army to outpace their enemies. However as the Aztlan Army marched west, they were ambushed by Celestial Loyalists. The Lunarist Garrison may be the main enemy but as the Lunarist Garrison was pushed back, skirmishes with the Communists and Celestial Loyalists occurred more often.

While the Baltimare Republic have the least numerous forces, they control the most industrial areas in the South-East and are supported by "volunteer" units from Stalliongrad. The Baltimare Republic appeal to Stalliongrad for support early in the South-East War and in response Stalliongrad sent several advisors, weapons, and "volunteer" divisions to assist the Baltimare Republic. However Stalliongard only did so to strengthen the Statist elements of the Baltimare Popular Front over the Libertarian Socialist elements. While our natives were able to hold their own against the Stalliongrad "volunteer" unit, several other units were able to outmaneuver and destroy a anarchist militia unit.

More and more it seemed the Lunarists were outmatched and could not keep up with the Aztlan Army. The experience and fighting ability of the mercenaries combined with the native's knowledge of the terrain provided a deadly combo as the Aztlan Army would constantly exploit gaps in the Lunarists frontlines and encircle units from the Lunarist Garrison. Even the esteemed Night Guard sent from the north to assist the Lunarist Garrison provide unable stop our advance and was destroyed after being encircled. By mid April the Lunarist Garrison had collapsed and its units scattered.

With the Lunarist Garrison gone, the remaining factions in the South-East now focussed on each other. The Aztlan Army quickly moved to occupy the territory perviously held by the Lunarists as clashes with the Celestial Loyalists and Baltimare Communists become more frequent. Things seem to take a unfortunate turn as we have find ourselves being fully opposed by the Celestial Loyalists from the South and the Communists from the North. Yet perhaps we can face them both as the Altzan Army has grown from the numerous warbands raised and now stands at 39 divisions by early May.

Early May 1008 - Late June 1008: The South-East War Part 3

After securing his alliance with the natives, Dr Caballeron focused his efforts on development. Efforts would be made towards rebuilding the once great walls of Tenochtitlan, old ruins repurposed, and canals repaired. As the ruins were restored, a great amount of treasure was found. As the war dragged on, Dr Caballeron gave orders to load up supplies.

On the front-lines the Aztlan Army now faced offed against the Celestial Loyalists and the Communists. The army was split with a slightly greater force facing the Celestial Loyalists and the remainder to face the Communists. While there were concerns about the feasibility of fighting a 2 front war, these concerns would be put to ease as the Aztlan Army would find success on both fronts. The Aztlan Army was able to move pass a gap in the front-lines of the Loyalists and cut off 3 Loyalist divisions. While the on the Northern Front, the Armed Sailors of Baltimare and the Stalliongrad "volunteer" unit were encircled.

As more enemy units are encircled and destroyed, the advantage would shift greatly in our side. Our units could once again advance forward and the enemy finds it more difficult to oppose us as more of their units are destroyed. In addition the elite unit of Tonaltzintli's Chosen has arrived to the front against the Loyalists. The Chosen are the best and most fearsome warriors the natives have to offer. They are highly experienced and possessing 9 battalions. They are one of the few units that can deal any significant damage to the enemy and their aid will be of great use.

As the war continues, we receive reports of mass violence committed by the communists against their perceived enemies. Known as the "Red terror", the Communists would execute thousands and even the natives were targeted as their temples were looted and burned. Yet this only strengthen our resolve, if this was what it would be like under the Communists then we must do our best efforts to prevent this. The Communists shall not be allowed to do this to the rest of the South-East. Yet it seemed our victory may be in sight as the increasing losses dealt to the Loyalists and Communists have reduced their ability to fight back.

A small bit of justice would be received as the Communist unit know as the "Death to Thestrals" division would surrender after being surrounded. With its members possessing a almost fanatic hatred of thestrals. This unit is well known and notorious for its numerous campaigns of terror and violence towards the thestrals. The members of the unit would be held in a POW camp for the duration of the South-East War and would be prosecuted after its conclusion.
