Chapter 5 "The Reform"
Chapter 5
Reformen
The 29 of June: Army HQ in Korsbæk

Erik With and William Wain Prior is discussing on how to reform the army.

W. Prior: "Andersen and Stauning did not give us that much to work with, we are not allowed to create new divisions or build fortifikations, the only thing we can do is plan a defense and when the Germans come, we will not be able to fight back"

E. With: "Prior, there is one thing we can do, we were allow to change the composition of our divisions"

W. Prior: "What is that going to help, our hands are tied With we can't build a larger army"

E. With: "That is not true, Andersen did not say anything about a limit on the size of the army's divisions. So if we increased the Size of the Division, we can bolster a larger army and recruit and train more men. We are only legally obligated to report the number of divisions in the Army. We have also ben granted funds to buy a lot of equipment

I have a plan Prior, we create a home defense force, which we should be allowed to train, they will be volunteers and not be paid by the army for their service, instead we will get the military industry to pay their wages, in return the army will order a bunch of weapons in one big bulk, which officially will be stored so we can use it later, but in practice they will also be used by this "Home Guard""

W. Prior: With, that is the most absurd thing, i have heard. So absurd it might work. We can get a bigger army, if we break the law, then there maybe time to Build some fortifications afterwards, it the politicians get to sense."

Prior takes a piece of paper and draw a plan on what a much larger division could look like.
upload_2019-11-3_19-40-52.png

This Division should be able to defend against anything the Germans have.

"This is what i have planned, an army that can dig in, suppress enemy with artillery, shoot down enemy planes and destroy tanks. We should be able to Train and arm at least 4 of these divisions. But we will get fired, if someone discovers such thing"

E. With: "I will take full responsibilities if, that happens and make sure you won't get the boot, i hate this as much as you do Prior. But Denmark's freedom is at stake and we can not let politics delay such an important rearmament, when the parlement decide it's time to mobilise it would be too little too late. We will only recruit volunteers for now, until the actions of the army will be approved by the Parliament."

W. Prior: " This is risky, but if we want to have a chance against Hitler, we must have a strong enough army.

The Generals agree, the plan is set in motion and the Army will slowly be build up, this "Home Guard" have been given the internal name "Hjemmeværnet", which on paper is a group of men that have volunteered to mobilize in the event of war, but in practice is training with the regular army and being paid like professional soldiers in secret, by the growing arm industry on the danish islands, in return the Army buys a large order of Riffles artillery and other military equipment.

This secret agreement between the army and the danish war industry is organised by Erik With and would be a national scandal if it was discovered and would destroy any plans of beefing up the army.

Pretty beefy divison there, but one does need to do something to be sure.

Good luck facing the germans. I tried once and was destroyed. The gernans actually naval invaded Sjælland, and when they took Copenhagen Denmark surrendered.

Og held og lykke med hovedkvarteret i Korsbæk - næste hemmelige generalmøde bliver måske nede ved Boldt over et par øl? :)

næste hemmelige generalmøde bliver måske nede ved Boldt over et par øl?

Have you ever seen Oberst Hackel at the train station restaurant?

Just keep im mind, my style of writing aar, is i play and write at the same time, so the lore is most likely not going to make sense, if you combine all chapters and think too much.

Seems like a good choice, a larger army will surely help against the germans.
I don't think it's enough, i have not tested anything, so i am going in blind.

My plan is to have some divisions that can take on any German attack, but i also have to defend the ports, or hope that the British navy will stop the Germans.

But more details will come, once i get time to continue playing.

The Nationaltic government have stated that they seek to free the oppressed Hungarians in southern Slovakia, wich is currently a part of the nation Czechoslovakia. With the Munich Agreement that was signed yesterday, the Czechoslovakian sovereignty and territorial integrity is no longer secure, this may be a perfect time for a revanchist Hungary to conquer neighboring territory.

Chapter 7 "The Plan"
Chapter 7
Planen
The 11th of May 1939: Ministery of Defense Copenhagen.

Foreign minister Peter Rochegune Munch (B), Defense Minister Alsing Andersen (A), Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning (A), General William Wain Prior and
Chief of the army Erik With, is debating on how to react to the German Annexation of Bohemia.

W. Prior: "The Nazis have shown they do not respect treaties, not even those signed by their own regime, the Germans have annexed territory that belonged to the German empire and Austria-Hungary before the Great war. We need to join the Anglo-French alliance in order to protect Denmark's independence and prevent the Germans from taking Sønderjylland again."

P. Munch: "There is no point in defending Denmark from Germany, we can not defend against them, we must hope that they will not invade and if they do, we most give then Slesvig, them the rest of Denmark maybe free."

Stauning: "P. Munch you are fired, leave this office at once"

P. Munch: "But Prime minister, we can't fight the Germans the British and French have shown, they do not care what Germany does to its neighbors, we are alone and we have not prepared any form of defense and the Danish Army is hopelessly outdated. "

E. With: "You are right Munch, the Danish Army is outdated, but that is not true for "The Home Guard"."

P. Munch: "as far as i know "The Home Guard" is some few 100 men that trains once a week, it's hopeless, we are at the Mercy of Hitler, we live in the shadow of a dictator and if we provoke him, we will live under his boots."

Stauning: "Munch is right, we can only hope that Hitler don't notice us, we could have modernized the army, then we made be able to bite, you are not fired Munch, i just don't want Denamrk to lose Sønderjyllnad after only 19 years."

A. Andersen: "Stauning, i have noticed that in the last year 29th of June till today, the Army have a huge deficit, due to a recent purchase rifles. We also have noticed that some artillery and weapons manufacturers in Korsbæk and other major Cities, have a bunch of equipment that has gone missing. We have no idea where the equipment is now. We suspect that they have sold a punch of heavy artillery, anti air and anti tank guns to the German army in secret."

E. WIth: "That is fortunaly not true Andersen, it is time that i explain. I have illegally made a secret deal with the danish arms industry, we promised to make huge orders on rifles and paying overprice for the equipment. In return, they would supply the army with heavy artillery, anti tank and anti air guns and pay The Home Guard's wages. So officially, the army is outdated and very small. But now it is modern and equipment with weapons, that can fight against every weapon the Germans can trow against us."

A. Andersen: "That much mean you lied when i signed the contract for the new rifles and said they costed a fortune due to a shortage of steel!"

Stauning: " You should be fired With, you have lied and you went against the Governments will. But we need to defend against these nazis, they are just evil. So this secret deal never happened. Make plans to defend Denmark, we need to resist and bite."

W. Prior: "Allow me to show you Stauning, look at this map.

We will have 8900 Men each to defend the around the ports of Hirtshals, Aarhus-Djursland, Northern Fyn, Copenhagen-northeastern Sjælland, and Bornholm.
These Division consist of 8 Infantry battalions, supported by an engineer, artillery and anti air company.

upload_2019-11-14_18-2-37.png

The southern Border will be defended by 48.400 thousand men, split into 4 divisions, each division is made out of 8 infantry battalions, 2 artillery battalions, 2 anti tank battalions and 2 anti air battalions, they will be supported by an engineer, artillery and recon company.

If we ever get an option to attack into Germany, we will push until we reach the Kiel Canal and fortify that area, with control over the Kiel canal and the Danish Strait, we will control the access in and out of the baltic sea, but that is a really unlikely scenario if we defend against a German invasion, we must attack Germany first to Succed, in other words, we will not make a defensive line at the Kiel Canal, unless a miracle happens.

We will use the Danish Navy to block the Straits and defend Fyn and Als from German invasion, but only if such an invasion is not supported by the German Navy, because we can not fight against the German navy.

Our Airforce will be used to intercept German bombers and we can use our Radar stations on the Islands to have intel over German movement around Denmark.

Our army is fully equipped and the plan only takes our current army into consideration, we can expand the Army if we have to do such thing."

Stauning: "Sounds good Prior, expand the army if you can, we use all our resources to keep the German army out of Denmark."

The Meeting is over and the plan approved. But will it be enough to defend Denmark from a potential German invasion?

Munch may or may not be defeatist, but he is not in error about the size of the task.

Munch may or may not be defeatist, but he is not in error about the size of the task.

1864 (the Second Schleswig war) was one hell of a year, it was the last war were Denmark actually fought in its home territory and it resulted in total defeat and Denmark lost all of Schleswig also due to a belief that we somehow could defeat the Prussians and Austrians or some major powers would intervene and Denmark could set it's border at the Ejder river. After some fighting the Prussians where willing to split schleswig, so the border would be around the morders border (though sligtly North of the Modern border and the other great powers of Europe on a conference, even proposed a border more south to the border, so if Denmark accepted the proposal or one of the other proposal on the Conferance, Denmark might not have lost all of Schleswig and even maybe have a larger or smaler part of the duchy than today, this is just speculation of course.

But danish nationalism and a dream of a Denmark to the Ejder, prevented a pragmatic approach at the peace conference.

After that war Denmark's foreign policy was neutrality and appeasing the German empire, so they would not take more danish territory. Heck Denmark even declined a Prussian offer, to give some autonomy and cultural right to the Danes in Schlswig, to prevent the Germans from having an excuse "to procect the German minority in Denmark" from meddling with Denmark's dosmertic affairs.

This defaitist (or realistic) mentality after the war of 1864 and the fact Denmark is generally made up of flat fields and had a small and outdated army, made it so Denmark chose to capitulate and appease Germany, instead of fighting a hopeless war.

So Munch is a realist in this history and he was the Foreign minister of Denmark in 1936, but all personalities the characters in this AAR have, is fiction and is only, at best, loosely based on how they ware historically.
