hello i really love the new update but it kills me when as rome i cant make julii juni and scipio as great families , i mean after conquering etruria as first target i get to chose an extra family sometimes i manage to get julii as option (either i make my minor julii governor or really sucky general and try to farm popularity) but sometimes i dont even get him as an option so i dont know really what do i need to do ... next up comes juni which is an old man already in office i only manage to get in julii before i can build him up , then there is scipio which is inside cornelius family ....so any help on how do i get all 3 families as great ? in ironman mode ofc for ocd reasons same reason i want these 3 families in total war fixation :D

Just for the record, Scipio was not a family name (nomen gentiles). It was a cognomen which is sort of nickname. The gens or the family were the Cornelii. Thus, the full name would be, for instance, Publius Cornelius Scipio.

You don't.

There is really no way to decide which character forms a great family.

I suppose if you really wanted to you could intentionally hover around the number of territories required to upgrade your rank and gain a new family. Then you could repeatedly release/sell and reconquer territories, going back and forth between government ranks, founding and dissolving families until the character you want shows up as an option in the event.

And I guess if you really, really wanted to you could try giving enough prestige to the newly founded family until they are not in last place anymore. Once that's done you could in theory repeat the process until you have all the families you want.

However, while all of this may be theoretically possible, it would also be a terrible strategy and a huge waste of time. Absolutely not worth the effort.

You can manipulate this in a few ways:

A: In a Republic it will always offer you up to 3 party leaders, OR if all party leaders are already part of families the minor character with the most powerbase within a party.
The fourth and last option, the "self made man" is always the Minor Character with the highest power base in the country.

B: In a Republic if you have a Minor Character with over 80 Statesmanship OR both 90+ popularity and at least 40 power base, then that Minor Character has a chance to oust one of the existing families and create his own. This can happen at any time and is not restricted to when you rank up or down.

C: In Monarchies the options are always going to be the Minor Characters in the country with the highest power base.

D: In a Tribes the game will make families for Clan Chiefs.

Tribes are the type of country where you have the least control over this, in Republics and Monarchies if you really want a particular Minor Character to rise to create his own family then you can make it so by making sure that Character has a very high Power Base (best option is to use governorships for this most of the time, and perhaps make sure no other minor characters have as much power base when you rank up).

It would be nice if restriction on number of families would be somewhat flexible. For example after annexing some old kingdom you could include some great family form that country and it would have some chance to cut out one of your own during the next year or two. Same when one of great families would die out there could be some kind of rivalry for who get into their place... this would give player time to take action.

It would be nice if as playing Rome you could order great families to adopt someone and keep his name like it is possible for monarchies. This creates the huge mess where you have greeks doing adoptions who rarly did in history, while the romans can't while they were historically quite fond of that idea. I know the naming conventions in the game don't allow more than 3 names per person, which is definitly not enough, but in reallity you could go with that: Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius Cornelianus Scipio Nasica.
