Darker Africans and Indians

This mod gives characters of African and Indian ethnic heritage a darker range of skin tones. I made this mod since I felt that some of the West African characters were too light-skinned (as if they had applied anachronistic skin-bleaching cream) by default, and also that the Indian characters should range into darker tones since some Indians in real life are every bit as "black" as any Africans.

The mod's effects may be more noticeable for Indian than African characters since, in the default game, they had a lower "maximum" value for skin tone (i.e. less dark skin at maximum).

Here is an example showing the mod's effect on Indian characters:

Nice mod, does it take into account different Indian ethnicities and make some of them have lower/higher max for the stat, or does it apply these changes to all Indians equally? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I've heard that there's surprisingly big variation in skintones in Indian populations, either based on caste or geographic location.

Unfortunately, as of now it applies to all Indians in the game. I know in real life that northern Indians tend to be lighter than southern ones, but there's only one ethnicity file for Indian characters regardless of whether they're southern or northern. That is the one my mod changes.

How about culture? I noticed that when you look at the cultural mapmode in India it would be pretty simple to divide the cultures into northern and southern ones. Also, is there any way to get this mod to work with achievements? It sadly disables achievements for me.

Can you please increase the colour scale in Africa to include much darker skin tones? Africans across the Sahel have varied tones including very dark, in this the darkest is still brown. There are still no dark tones in game even with this mod. Nubians for example should be darker than other East Africans on average.

I love this mod but the scale doesn't seem to include darker Africans still. Thank you so much for this mod though.

You could make a new ethnicity for the regions that should be more varied (Africa is the same way). Just create a new file like 01_ethnicities_southindian and of course inside the file change the 'indian' to something like 'southindian'.

After that go into culture\cultures\dravidian.txt and change
ethnicities = {
10 = indian
}

to
ethnicities = {
10 = southindian
}

On my end I did this and now you have the proper variation.

Where did you put the division between northern and southern India? (Is there an area in the middle of cultures that can spawn both?)

Right now, what I did was created a "Southern Indian" ethnicity and assign it to all Dravidian cultures in the game. I have not added it to any Indo-Aryan cultures yet.

Anyway, I've already created the "Northeast African" ethnicity and assigned it to a number of cultures in North and Northeastern Africa (e.g. Nubian, Ethiopian, Somali, Beja, etc.).

Within the game's ethnicity files, the "scale" for skin darkness goes from 0 to 1, with 1 representing the very darkest skin tones. In my mod's African ethnicity file, the skin tone range goes from .8 to 1. Shame this appears to be not dark enough!
