Anybody? If yes can you please tell me how you did it?

I have tried everything. No matter what I do, the game will not accept any new or changed hotkeys, that I change in the shortcuts.shortcuts file.

maybe I've overlooked anything, so if anyone here did this, can you please tell me step by step what you did, so I can see where I was missing something?

Thank you

I have - I changed the shortcut keys for Map Modes - and I honestly just changed theletter key strokes (R for Religious, etc.) in the settings.settings file and saved them.

It worked instantly.

Have you tried modifying one simple key (like a letter for another letter) for one simple command (like a map mode) in the default file?
And are you sure it saved (i.e. you saved, closed, re-opened)?

Yeah, it totally works. You can't make a mod out of it, you have to do it in the main folder.

You say you changed something in the settings.settings file, but I can't finde a file called settings.settings in the game files. Did you mean another file?

I can go a little into detail what I tried so far.

I have copied this shortcuts.shortcuts file

Into this mod folder

As you can see, I take the shortcuts.shortcuts file from the gui folder, and copy it into my mod folder, also in a folder called gui.

So, everything fine.

I then go ahead, and just for testing purposes, I change the hotkey to open the ingame encyclopedia from F9 to F10. Nothing more.

So far, everything should be fine, right? I save the file, it's in the right place, all is well. Then I start up the launcher, and make sure the mod is enabled.

So, all is well, right? Now then let's see if this worked. Game starts, I load up a save and then.... nope, doesn't work. The ingame encyclopedia still opens with F9. It's like the game doesn't want to accept this mod. F10 does nothing.

I have also tried to create a totally new shortcut in this file, called it "test" and bound the "9" key to it. Didn't work either.

What am I doing wrong here?

For additional information, there is currently a mod in the workshop, that adds a shortcut to a UI element, something that I want to do as well. So for testing purposes, I have downloaded that mod.
This one to be exact
All this mod does is add a new shortcut to the shortcuts.shortcuts file and assign it to a UI element. The same thing I want to do.

So I have tried to copy all of these mod files into a test mod of my own and the game still doesn't accept it! There must be something wrong!
If I load this mod from the workshop, the "p" button works fine, but if I go ahead and copy all files 1:1 into a mod of my own, it doesn't work! Why?

I may be misunderstanding you here, do you suggest just altering the original file in the actual game files? If yes, then this is not an option. I know this will work, because I have tried that as well. But if I want to make a mod with a UI element using a shortcut, then I have to define that shortcut within the mod, not my own game files.

Yeah the only way to edit shortcuts that I have found is the actual main game file. I tried making a mod out of it but it would not override the main game file.

That is the exact problem that I have. But other people don't have it. There is a mod in the workshop, that alters the shortcuts.shortcuts file successfully as a mod.
This one if you're curious

It adds a new hotkey "p" to the file. And it works! Then why doesn't it work for me and you? Is the game broken for some reason?

Yeah I think they added the "P" to the file that controls the new window and it's not actually using the shortcuts file. I tested that one out too.

I don't know if its what you are looking for, but someone made a hotkey mod for accessing the console ingame. Maybe you should take a look at it to see how they did it.

That one is me :D I made that mod, and no I didn't create a new shortcut. I tried it, but I failed. I just re-used the screenshot hotkey F11. For some people this command will have more priority over taking a screenshot and everyting works fine, but for other people it will just take a screenshot. It's annoying, I had to make a second mod with a visible button for these people.

All just because I can not simply add shortcuts to the shortcuts.shortcuts file.

And I'm slowly starting to feel like this is PDX's fault, or a bug in the game. I've now seen multiple people reporting the same issue as me here and in reddit.
Maybe I should file a bug report? But then again, this is a modding issue, so would that be the right thing to do?

If that was the case, then the mod should still work, if I copied all the files 1:1 in my own test-mod right? But it doesn't. I tried that. I copied the files form that "P" mod and it still didn't work!
