I was hoping for the full on Iberia/France swap. But there is still time I suppose.

Oh my, dual civil wars in both huge empires.
And England does look very petty indeed. If the Ireland invades them, i'll laugh.
Hah, we'll see how things move on the emerald island. :D
Quite symmetrical the way both major Empires face civil wars at the same time.
Right? Not often they fall into it either, but it often happens close to each other it seems to me.
One thing that feels unnatural to me about the way CK3 plays out is when a kingdom is able to grab large swathes of neighboring territory but cannot hold onto its core lands. Seems like that kind of instability would shatter a monarch’s control of his throne. Not your fault though, my friend. Another great update!
That is a valid point. Either shattering or changing the name and title at least?
That's a nice looking Scotland
Right? :D I'm surprised they haven't expanded south yet.

Oh, it's moving towards it. That is sure. :D

Chapter IX – 1286 to 1316

“Most curious…”

The Watcher mumbled to himself.

“Look, my friend. Abyssinia has disintegrated and left an independent Mecca.”

XN0RJQz.png

He pointed.

“And it’s Coptic Christianity, it and its surroundings. I wonder…”

The Creature nodded.

“Most interesting my friend. And look at the Papacy, it has expanded a lot.”

He snickered.

“On it’s third war with the Byzantines for continued control over their part in the Balkans, and winning again. Quite something for such a small country.”

The Watcher nodded.

“Yes and look at their north; the kingdom of Lombardy and the kingdom of Sardegna e Corsica is independent.

He tsk’ed.

“And in the east, the Mongols seem to have reached their potential. Not much expanding done for a while now.”

The Creature shook his head.

“Down from over 60.000 troops to barely 15.000. In one decade. Quite a downward spiral.”

He jumped.

“But look at England, my friend. The Holy Roman Empire, Sweden and France has all taken a piece of both England and Denmark. In fact, Denmark is no more on the map.”

The Watcher narrowed his brows.

“Indeed. Quite interesting. But do look at Iberia, my friend. France and the Holy Roman Empire has soon it all under their control.”

He scratched his chin.

“Quite a consolidation… I wonder…”

The Creature smiled.

“Something to mull over with a cup of tea, I assure you. Which blend?”

The Papal tactic of "hire every mercenary" seems to be successful :D
And HRE should be called "Holy Shit, what an Empire!"

I feel like this update should have begun with the imperative, “Release the Kraken!”

Because there’s a handful of monarchies that have their tentacles everywhere.

Alas the Kingdom of Jerusalem appears to have vanished. F in chat and so on.

The HRE are doing an excellent job of bouncing back from their various civil wars, the Byzantines less so.

This timeline seems to have an acute case of HRE

They can afford it, to be sure. And yeah, the HRE is a beast!

Haha, well the phrase "curious" should be accounted as a trademark by now. :p

F.

They seem to have gone the way of the dodo, yes. As for the civil wars....watch this space! :D

"I believe the doctor is right on this one, surely."
"He may be. But don't call me Shirley."

Chapter X – 1316 to 1346

“Curious. The resurgence of the Byzantines continue unabated.”

The Watcher scratched his chin.

“And look, they’ve got Mecca under their control. Most interesting…”

He shook his head.

“And The Holy Roman Empire is in a new civil war.”

The Creature smiled.

“In England though, things are happening.”

He pointed.

aYLHhYA.png

“Norway is back, in the south. And Wales are expanding. Look, they’ve taken parts of Scotland.”

The Watcher nodded.

“But it is still a mess. Sweden, Norway, various petty kingdoms… And, is that a part of the Holy Roman Empire in the corner?”

He gasped.

“My, my… The Holy Roman Empire is struggling still. But look at the Byzantines. A new Emperor. Catholic and Hungarian. There are rebellions everywhere. Most curious…”

The Creature laughed.

“Speaking of curious. Have you seen the Holy Roman Empire? The kingdom of Middle Seaxe has got independent, and is now owning lands in Germany, England, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Russia.”

He winked.

RgRole9.png

“Quite spread out, wouldn’t you say?”

The Watcher whistled.

“And some size to them too. Most curious.”

He widened his eyes.

GpFHaXA.png

“Look at the Middle East. The Hungarian Catholic Emperor of the Byzantines have lost one of his civil wars. Armenia is independent. So is Hellas. And Egypt. And Cyprus. And Lydia. And several others.”

The Creature looked closer.

“And Mecca and Jerusalem is both lost to him. Quite a turnaround.”

He clucked.

Y1TjmlO.png

“And there the kingdom of Africa went independent too. And it is everywhere, even in the core territories of the Byzantines.”

The Watcher tsk’ed.

“Not much left of their empire now, poor things.”

He pointed.

fJO5jXm.png

“See, there the civil war is over. The Catholic Hungarian is no longer Emperor. But just look at the remains… Quite curious.”

The Creature nodded.

“Very sad. They will have a hard time getting back from this.”

He raised a glass.

“To the Byzantines, a cheer for what they accomplished and for their future! A beer, my friend?”

Oh my! It looks the kraken-empires of Byzantium and the HRE now have cancer.

This is looking more and more like CK2’s “shattered” start.

Keep up the good work, friend.

It's certainly going abruptly downhill with one of them... Although that rump Byzantine Empire still can field 23k troops...

That is some hideous border gore in the wreckage of the Byzantines. I wouldn't rule them out from making a comeback, but it is easier to explode an empire than build it.

I'm looking forward to Wales conquering England.

My oh my. The shattering of the Byzantines is just beautiful! Long live Hungarian Catholic Basileus!
And Middle Seaxe is at least named appropriately! :D

They're still very powerful in raw numbers, but they have indeed a long way to go...

Yeah, wouldn't that be something! :D

He surely must be remembered with horror. :D

PSA, I've started another CK3 AAR, feel free to check it out! :)

That is one very spectacular Byzantine implosion.

Well, Byzantium was doing well, but they died.

England has perished. I'd hate to actually live there.

The bordergore across Europe is horrifying.

I love the Middle Seax colour. Bright light blue. Lovely. Need to play that one myself. Very different from the reds and oranges usual to England.

And the game did begin much as mine did. Hungary boomed and bust, England collapsed in on itself, Denmark took over most of Scandinavia, Iberia became a mess and the HRE and Romans split much of the map between each other. The Persians are also very likely to come back into existence, which is nice.
